T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 527 comments Haha, I love this group! <3

I've been in a fair few groups that talk about "writing in the active voice", and "conjunctions" and all manner of technical words.

I don't think about them in all honesty. I just write.
Maybe that's naughty and bad of me? Oh, just spank me! ;-p

Confession #2: I ain't a real author. I just like to write stuff. Sooo...

I'd have to google all those terms. Seriously. Which I will when someone "technical" comes to the group. Seriously. And, ummm, okay...

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Oh wow! Now we really are getting naughty up in here! Use the whip, Mistress Ann! *smirks*

I just write as well. The words sort of lead themselves. Plus, that's what editing is for....

And if you write, you're an author! Don't think otherwise, Mistress Ann.

I was carefully avoiding the whip but if y'all want it...

*cracks cat-o-nine tails*

Whip? Check.
Author? Check.
Editing? What the (view spoiler) is that??

^_^

Groovy Lee I have a "but" "and" problem, too. I also overuse: then (a lot! I should be ashamed of myself) And how many ways can you laugh or chuckle for heaven's sake? I spend a great deal of editing trying to show, not tell, in that area **aspirin time**

I've also learned something else: whenever you use "it", I find that you can delete it and substitute whatever "it" is describing. Do the rest of you find that to be true?

Annnnnd, I think it was Stephen King who wrote that you should use the ! very, very, very, very sparingly, if at all. The descriptive words you use should convey the emotions, not the !. And here's how he explained it:

Because if you use the exclamation point a lot! And I mean, a lot! If you put it at the end of every **##@%% explosive sentence!! It becomes annoying! And no one likes to be annoyed! Get it!!!!!

And guess what, people. I got it. You dig?

Oh, Annie, I looooovvveee ellipses...
