April Moran (author-aprilmoran) | 1 comments Hey ya'll! I'm April Moran and I joined this group a while ago but never posted...thought now might be as good a time as any! I just published my first historical Romance, Taming Ivy, and working on the 2nd in what will be a series of 3 books. I read just about anything- but historical romances will always be my first love. The most exciting part of this writing and publishing journey is discovering all the first time authors, who, like me, are a little overwhelmed by the amount of work it takes to get your "baby" out into the world! And I thought writing was hard-that was the easy part!!! Anyway- glad to be here! Oh! And one bit of news I must share! I'll be listed in the Debut Authors for October in the Romantic Writers of America newsletter-Yay me lol!!!

message 1713: by Mila (new)

Mila Mesa | 2 comments Hi all! I'm a newbie author and I just released my debut a few weeks ago. I've always wanted to be an author, so finishing my first full-length novel and sending it out there into the world was basically a dream come true.

My favorite romance novels involve true love prevailing over drama and conflict, and that's what I tried to create with my debut 'Strictly Surgical,' the story of a clandestine romance between a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and his business partner's virgin daughter (who, of course, has a huge secret of her own!)

Strictly Surgical (Doctor/Patient, #1) by Mila Mesa

I thought writing was the challenging part... little did I know, the REAL challenge began after I hit "publish." As a newbie, I'm still figuring out the best ways to connect with readers and get my book out there. I hope to learn more by meeting fellow authors in this community!

message 1717: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Kay | 2 comments Hi Everyone! I love romance, just about every kind but my favorites are usually historical, sci fi, and paranormal and I really enjoy it when there is a bit of a mystery thrown in. However, I will read just about anything as it is one of my favorite past times, when I'm not writing that is.

I recently joined goodreads and published my first historical romance novel, Signs of Love and Deliverance. I have been writing since I was a kid and finally got up the courage to publish my novel. It's been a long time getting here, and now, I have to figure out all the marketing stuff which I am finding challenging. Personally, I'd rather be writing and/or reading. I'm hoping groups like this one will be helpful and supportive in this process.

Thanks for having this group and I look forward to reading some of the posts and perhaps even make a few new friends.

Have a great weekend and keep on reading.

Alberta | 2 comments "Wounded"? I hope that doesn't mean the "hero" is a jerk. And "alpha male"? Is that code name for a control freak? If the heroes in your books don't treat the heroine right, I hope he's REAL contrite to her after he's realized what a #@%$&! he's been and he does everything he can to make it up to her.

Having said that, I look forward to reading your books. ;)
Welcome to Goodreads! :)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 3 comments Hello everyone,

Hope all is well at your end :-)

I joined the group some time ago, but it's been a while since I was active here, so I thought it might be a good idea to re-introduce myself. This way I could perhaps catch up with old friends and get connected with the new members :-)

My name is Ramla Zareen, and I'm an avid reader of mystery and romance books, these days leaning more towards light-hearted contemporary romances.

Some of my favourite romance authors include: Judith McNaught, Julie James, Robin Bielman, Jennifer Shirk, Kristan Higgens, Rachael Anderson, Ashley Mallory, Zeenat Mahal, Adite Banerjie, Sapna Bhog, Mahi Jay, Shilpa Suraj, Ruchi Vasudeva . . . and the list goes on. Lol.

One great news at my end is that I'm now also a self-published author on Amazon :-)

My book is titled The One for Me The One for Me by Ramla Zareen Ahmad

It's a light-hearted, romantic fiction, set in modern-day Pakistan.

I love connecting with fellow book-lovers, so please feel free to send me a friend request if you like :-)

Thank you!

Ashley Shea | 1 comments I love this!! Thanks so much everyone for sharing!! I couldn't get through them all, this is a huge thread, but I can't wait to explore!

I am into erotica and romance. I am writing my very first contemporary romance/erotica/supernatural thriller hybrid thing. I got into writing because I was dissatisfied with what was out there. But I also have a family and a career and writing - while I would love for it to be my main profession - has had to take a backseat. Also, because I am not a writer, have had no formal training, I naturally assume everything I write must be appallingly amateur.

I wanted to join this group to have meaningful discussions about format and content. Did I give enough backstory? Am I telling-not-showing? Is this dialog stilted? Is it too long? Too short? Too indulgent? Too explicit? These are questions I really don't have the experience to answer myself. I would love to have meaningful discussions with others going through similar things and into similar things.

Can't wait to meet all of you!!

Eve Riley (evemriley) | 1 comments Hello everyone!

M.J. Apple (mjapple) | 2 comments Happy Holidays!

After nearly 30 years of writing in private, I finally took the plunge and published “The Real Me Because of You” (a steamy closed door rom-com with a Filipina-American lead).

As a teacher, my promo game was nonexistent since I couldn’t afford ARC’s & paid promotions/advertising. But I made a deal with both my daughter and another student that if they don’t stress about college acceptance, I’ll make a real effort in promoting my book. So here we are.

Here is my “official bio”:

MJ Apple is a pen name. The writer and her husband have two teenage children and two puppies and raised them in various part of the US, most recently in the South. She currently teaches high school math and officiates swim meets. She advocates her children and students to embrace their talented passions of performing and visual arts and continuing to grow in their faith.

Martin Rinehart | 14 comments Hi, MJ!

Best wishes re The Real Me...

Please define 'steamy, closed-door.'

message 1749: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Apple (mjapple) | 2 comments Hello, Martin!

I do better using film and television ratings. So I will say PG-13 or TV14: some strong language, and suggestive sexual themes but a lot to leave to the imagination.

I provide descriptions of heated kisses and some physical affection, but please do not force me to go into explicit details about what happens when they start to connect below the waist.

That being said, I am also a realist and now words and things happen, so I know for a fact that couples have sex and the young adults use foul language. But I keep that to a minimum…

message 1750: by Martin (new)

Martin Rinehart | 14 comments That's all OK with me, MJ. I'm a big Jane Austen fan. So a handshake (between ladies!) is enough physical contact. I think 'sweet' romance suggests French kisses, but no intercourse. (Well, not on camera, anyway.)
