Hahaha! I fixed him up!
My Southern accent is disappearing. We recently moved from Charleston, SC to Indiana (I know, I know--why, right?). My husband's job has moved us around a bit. But I love accents of all sorts. I reread the current comments in the accents of the country--in my head because out loud would be torture for other humans. Maybe if I get enough vino in me?And I love foreign idioms that I have to Google. I haven't seen one in a while ...
Accents are fun. I'm originally from northwestern PA in the states, then moved to Tennessee, Wisconsin and then Florida. I've been traveling for the past year and have met people from all over the world during my travels. It is fun hearing the accents and watching the differences in people. (I'm sure you'll see a few of them as characters in my books.) I can imagine all of us in a room and the sounds of all the areas we are from, eh! After spending 3 hrs with a linguist, he couldn't figure out where I was from as I have picked up words and phrases from everyplace I've spent more than a week. Makes it hard to make your characters sound like they are from specific areas...lol. Currently in Arizona but my best friend here is from Holland....you can imagine some of the fun I have with the words that pop out of their mouth....lol.
I totally want a group phone in now! I love our variety.
I am very Southern English.
I had elocution lessons which only really comes out when I'm drunk (very odd!).
Most of the time I just "speak nicely". Foreigners probably still think I sound posh.
True story; I used to work selling landline telephones. An Indian man came in and returned with his son, hinting at him studying to be a doctor.
He insisted I record their outgoing voicemail message!! (anything for a sale)
Hello,I write in two genres: Romantic suspense & mysteries. Not sure how many male romance writes there are and is Nicolas Sparks, one of my favourites, considered romance?

Helloooo and welcome! So happy to have ya here, good sir!! You are in good company with romantic suspense for sure! Annnnd Mr Sparks is kinda sorta the epitome of romance, eh?
I read more dark/erotic romance than regular romance and there are certainly a solid number of male authors on that side of the fence! Lucian Bane and the Chance brothers are just a couple examples ^_~

Hugsss,

EDIT: Can't spell. Ugh.

I was very Northern Yorkshire English. My first Management trainee job they asked me to tone down my accent! After living in Canada for many years, I have been told its now quite refined. However, still not a posh Southern accent. Ha
Welcome Michael! Another accent to be jealous over! Yikes, you guys are killing me with the coolness.
J. wrote: "Welcome Michael! Another accent to be jealous over! Yikes, you guys are killing me with the coolness."You're so funny, Julie! My Australian accent would be a huge disappointment, just ask Mistress Ann and Queen Amanda!
I doubt that Princess Jane. Nothing about you could be a disappointment. And for the record, your book One is pretty awesome. I'm not that far into it yet, because my kids keep interrupting mommy reading time *growls in frustration* but it's great! I totally gasped after the end of the first chapter!

LOL! Please tell me you will incorporate that accent into something written so I can read what it's like. I'm from New England. And here we have at least 3 different accents all with the same variant of annoying. If you've ever seen a movie based in Boston, they exaggerate the accent a bit unless you actually do live in Southie or on the Cape. I lived in Boston for many, many years and most people don't sound like that - even the natives like my husband.
People from Maine sound like they're from Canada and even Vermonters have something special going on. But in CT, alas, we have no accents. It's a terrible shame, because I've always wanted one.
*sighs dramatically* Okay, I'm done with my rant now.
Happy hump day. (Ha! I just realized how dirty that sounded)

Hahaha. I still love you, Mistress Ann!
I was in Norfolk last year. Bear in mind I'm from England. I said to the barman, "a pint of your best and what part of Australia are you from?" I have sold AUS wine for years in my career and know lots of them. He looked at me for a moment before responding "You're having a laugh mate, I'm from here." Felt like such a twit and yes, you sound like Brits. Ha
Greetings! Since the moderator asked for an introduction, here's mine:I'm Eric, a 37 year old carpenter and former bouncer from America's Pacific Northwest. When I'm not covering myself in sawdust, I write books. I've written crime fiction titles, but lately I've branched out into romance - I was asked to contribute to a charity anthology by a friend, found I liked writing in the genre a lot and decided to keep going.
So far all I've published in the genre is biker romance, mostly because it covers my two of my favorite topics; crime and passion. I plan on trying other stuff someday though.
When it comes to reading...man, am I ever a tough sell about romance stories. My first introduction to the genre came from the novels women would occasionally leave behind at the bar I worked at back when I was a bouncer; I picked them up out of sheer boredom and found some stuff to like...but mostly I understood why the books had been left behind, lol. Since then, I've found only a few stories that I've enjoyed for real.
What I look for: Male leads who know how to comport themselves like gentlemen, women with agency, heart and brains, a believable foundation for a relationship...and hugs. Good banter between the couple is a must, also. I haven't found too much of that.
What makes me put a book down: Jerkoff male leads, insta-love, characters who cast abusive behaviors as "cute", repetitive misunderstandings and weird euphemisms for body parts. Also, if the only reason given for the characters' pairing is "she/he is soooooo haaaaaaawt" I will lose patience in a big awful hurry.
Anyhow, thanks for letting me in the door, and I look forward to conversing with everyone about all things lovey-dovey in fiction!
PS: Before anyone asks, no...despite what my profile picture looks like, I am not a biker. I haven't used a two-wheeled method of transportation since the eighth grade. My profile pic was taken at a rock concert I wanted to look cool for. :D

Hiya, Eric! (❛‿❛✿̶̥̥)
Helloooo and welcome, Mr Eric!!
That was a stupendously awesome intro! You're in great company with the crime and passion combo here. And I'm delighted to hear you're no longer subjecting yourself to rejected-by-drunk-ladies-at-the-bar novels anymore. Well, unless you're still reading those... ^_~
Hugsss,
Ann

Hahaha... Your P.S. cleared up the question forming in my head. "Is he a biker writing about bikers?" That was going to be a first for me.
Nice to meet ya, Eric! Welcome!
India
Welcome, Eric! So glad to have you:) Loved your intro and learning a bit about you. Can't wait to see your thoughts in some of the other threads.*hands out welcome basket full of goodies* We love to share around here, but be forewarned, the goodies go fast, so grab it quick!
*puts out another plate of goodies* Just in case the first batch went too quickly. *wink*
Welcome Eric! Loved the info on you. You are in great company here. And I'm sort of right there with you on the books you put down. You sort of summed it up perfectly actually. And even though you're rocking the biker motif in your picture, I'm glad I don't have to lecture you on the dangers of donor-cycles. (Sorry, it's the NP in me). *eats some for he goodies because I can't help myself*
Don't worry Queen Amanda, I left plenty for others ; )
-eats a handful of goodies-Aww, thanks for the welcome, everybody! You all sound like a fun bunch, I think I'll enjoy myself here.
sets a case of wine next to the goodies-
Here's my contribution, lol. Anyhow I think I'll wander around the threads and see what people are talking about. Enjoy the wine, and don't do anything I wouldn't do!
PS: don't feel all that limited by my last statement. ;)

Yes, wine! My favorite:) Thank you, my kind sir. *pours a glass*
Well, Annie & I both write romance. Could this be a great story? India fell in love with Eric in our Goodreads group, over a glass of wine. I also sell wine for a living? What wine do you like? I'm typing in the first chapter. Ha
@Michael - Anyone who writes romance novels and sells wine is my instant best friend. Ditto for anyone who drops a case off as part of the goodies (Yes Eric, I'm talking to you)Love having dudes in this group!
Happy Saturday folks. Hope wherever you are it's warm. It's freaking freezing in New England.
*sighs dramatically* Wishing I could make enough money writing to move to an island.
aww Jane! Diet coke, coming right up!! *pours a glass*Also, hello new people! How nice it is to see you :)
Oh I've missed loads! Sorry gang. Still poorly.Michael: yay for Yorkshire!
Welcome t'group ;-)
Eric...ooh a former bouncer. There's a bodyguard in one of my books. Not saying which though as it may look like bookwhacking.
I used to work with security officers. Loads of great stories there!
I'm very pleased to see more men here.
You're very welcome.
Please bear with the unicorn dancing. We can discuss many other things too. Promise.
(*hands round belated baked welcome goodies*)
(*ears prick up like radar*) someone mention wine? My fave is Rioja. These days I'm more red than white but enjoy fresh pinot grigio in summer.
Just saying ;-)
(*cheers*)

lol! Did you just give us a wine list? Now I'm in love with Clark also.
Princess Jane, I just finished a Diet Coke (yes, it's only 9:30 in the morning here, don't judge) and I thought of you while doing it. As for the wine, I'm a pinot noir girl or a sauvignon blanc is good stuff too. If we get to place an order, I'm saying.
*installs huge wine refrigerator in dungeon where unicorn pole dancing is happening*
And has plenty of DC in case the lovely Princess wants to visit.

I grew up in New England and have lived in both New York City and Boston. I am happy to say my accent is as flat as it gets. No inflections whatsoever. My husband who was born and raised near Boston doesn't have one either, but can mock 'em with the best of 'em.
