Need help finding story!

Can someone help me find a short story? I don't know the name or who wrote it, but it took place in England (Victorian, I think), where an ancient pre-Roman site had been found. It was a horror story, and the end was mostly jibberish--rantings of a man who was possessed by the ancients. I could be wrong about this, however. Any ideas? I know this is all about books, but I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
