Elodie | 35 comments Hi! I'm writing a futuristic novel and need help with a name for a device. It's a smartphone that stores everything (insurance, driving license, bank account, birth certificate, etc.). Generally, it's one device for your whole life, including a scanner to open, for example, your own apartment door. You also use it as payment device like a credit card.
For now, I've named it "iLife" but the problem is that this is something that already exists (it's a multimedia package from Apple). I don't know if that's an issue or if I'll confuse readers with it so I'm looking for ideas for other names. Can you brainstorm a few for me? :) Thanks in advance!

Zara Deyn | 45 comments Just a quick thought as I pass through : - the Latin for 'my life' is apparently - vitae - so that leaves us with : - iVitae.

I'll keep thinking.

Vic (VicBeckman) | 3 comments I'm wondering if in the future we (society) might tire of prefixing names of devices with "i" or "e" etc. I kinda like where Zara was going with the thought of using Latin.

Elodie | 35 comments Hi! Yeah, I'm all for Latin and think the idea is great.
I'm always wondering how the words sound in a sentence, for example: "She clutched the iVitae in her hands..." How does that sound for you? Good or bad?
I'm biased regarding this topic... I've included "iLife" in my book since the beginning and now everything new sounds strange *lol*. Which is also why I like Pat's word MyLife because it's similar :D
This is why I rely on your comments :)

Pat | 105 comments That was my thought...get as close as legally possible. Plus the "my" speaks to the egocentricity of society.

Vic (VicBeckman) | 3 comments iVitae does have a nice ring to it.

And what if I write "My MyLife..." ? Does that sound weird?

Pat | 105 comments A bit, but it's understandable. Besides, you could work the sentence differently..such as, "Grabbing the MyLife, I headed out". But I think most people would gloss over the pronunciation issue.

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 9 comments How does eVal sound?

'e' is often prefixed with electronics (eReader, ePub, etc.) and since the device is electronic in nature, this is an added value to communicate the same. 'Val' in fancy contraction for 'value' which is what the device stores - things that are valuable to a person.

Another alternative is Vitila derived from vitals (again, value/important).

I'll also think of other substitutes and let you know. Good luck with your novel! :-)
