It's about a princess, Kiyiera, who finds out that her father is using her potential marriage as a bargaining chip to a lesser lord of another country in exchange for helping overthrow that lord's king and the use of a ghastly and unholy horde the lord is planning to unleash over the realm. Instead of allowing her father to create chaos and ruin at the hands of those ancient and evil magical beasts, Kiyiera decides to run off and create her own allies against her father. Her best friend, Jonah, thinks she is a liar, angry because her father has been ignoring her lately. But after she runs off and leaves him behind, Jonah finds her mother lying in a pool of blood and a fiance that she never mentioned has appears at the king's side, eager to find his kidnapped bride.
