How often do I have to sleep before I can start. It's almost like Christmas ;-)
Last night I was dreaming I checked my books and somehow book 2 appeared in my Kindle library so I didn't need to buy it - how I wish it was true!
Lol Agnieszka! I am looking forward to reading it too. What a silly dream! I never remember my dreams.
I usually don't neither, but I was got so confused it wake me up and than only I realised it was only a dream and was disappointed it's not real - but sooner or later I'll hope for a deal. Only today became I aware even if there won't be a sale for it within the next month I'll be able to buy it since I'm going to care for my grandmother (so my parents can go on vacation) and in that time I have no own expenses for food and in about two and a half weeks I'll be able to get that money together - how cool it that :-)
Nice! I downloaded it, but only read one page before falling asleep! :(I am still getting used to my back to school.schedule. Will read some tonight.
I got to 25%. It is BRUTAL! Also a good mystery, my kind of book!It has quiteva few one liners which make it s little humorous.
I read last night and today in the morning 11 chapters - I'm not sure I can really deal with this stuff and brutal is absolutely the right description. The gingerbread man is so sick. I was really scared almost to my limit reading the chapter in the hospital with the chocolate/candy or how ever you call the stuff. Are there really people that sick in this world and I just can't grasp it or was this scenario just over the top?I'm not really able to see much of promissed the humor but hope I'll get there with time.
I'll try to show up today again. Tomorrow I'll be on my way to care for my grandmother, so I'll be only able to go online only in the evening when I arrive at my parents home. But during the 4 hour train drive I'll have some time for reading :-) Unfortunatelly it's not direct, but I have much practice in reading while walking so I'm really looking forward to make a good progress tomorrow.
Agnieszka, I'm not reading the book, but saw this quote from it which made me chuckle “Sorry to hear about your Dad."
He shrugged. "He was seventy, and we always told him fast food would kill him."
"Heart attack?"
"He was hit by a Pizza Express truck.”
Do you see the humor in that? I've understand humor can vary by culture.

It's not really my kind of humor and it's more of a personal issue - I could imagine my sister would love it - she loves the rather darker or morbid humor. It's in the same area like the most of the fun the author's making about the FBI agents. I know there isn't really much love between police officers and FBI agents in general - but the way the agents are over the top in this book is really painfull and almost assaulting for an entire group of people risking very much each day to keep many of you save. And I know I'm much too serious - heard it the first at the age of six, and I'm still working to improve/change it ;-)
I liked very much the 'skydiving' scene though it's only fun if you know the characters and have an idea what's the subcontext could be.
The beginning was rather brutal, later it got more fun but still nothing for the faint of heart. I'm at chapter 31 / 73%.
I see it's not my best English - but it's 3:30 and I'm too tired to think anymore plus if I want to get any sleep at all I need to move very urgently to my bed :-)

Perri that is actually one of the humorous parts that I was talking about. There are several of them and I do agree with Agnieszka that this book is very brutal and not for the faint of the heart. It is very dark but I am a magnet fot very dark suspense. The scarier the better. I do agree the Ginger Bread Man just gets sicker and sicker. I love it though. This book isnt for anyone though thats for sure.
I am camping right now and will not be able to finish this until Monday night. I love Jack Daniels. She is a kick ass female.
Wow!I cant wait to get into this. I have time this weekend and will be able to catch up. ( I fell asleep again last night)
Vicki dont worry about it! I am camping and will come on to check every once in awhile. If you like very dark suspense you will love it! I have read worse but this is very good! I probably wont get this finished until Sunday night.
Kirsten *Dogs Welcome - People Tolerated" wrote: "Great! I'll join in when you guys get to book #2! Enjoy!!"Kirsten I will definately want to read book 2.
I finished the book in the train and it was really difficult for me to rate it. I was struggling with it, but I had also fun reading it. There were parts I just wanted to scream because I thought that's so sick or beacuse I found some inconsistencies I struggled with. There were also some parts I really loved in the end I decided to put my personal feelings away and look at the style and the rather technical stuff and decided on 4* and decided to give it another try with book 2 :-)More from my side depending on your reading progress - I don't want to spoil anything ;-)
I remember listening to the audiobook and getting uncomfortable during the serial killer chapters but really enjoying the chapters with Jack. How about you guys.
I was cracking up also Vicki! We both must have a sick sense of humor lol, just kidding! I am at about 50 % but I am still camping so I probably wont finish it until tomorrow night.Kirsten Yes I do have to agree that I did feel uncomfortable at times during the serial killer chapters, they scared me but I love to be scared. I LOVE JACK! She is Kick Ass!
Agnieszka I am so happy that you ended up liking the book and are going to read book 2. I will finish the book tomorrow and comment more. I am going to try to read a little tonight.
Am at 43% and I can't put it down.Very tense part when (view spoiler)
It is very dark and graphic, but I like this kind of book. ( just like you said Mary! )
The only thing that is slightly annoying is (view spoiler)
But loving it overall.
Vicki I agree that the closet was very suspenseful! Also the peachy part which we all know what happened. During the closet part (view spoiler)What I loved about it! (view spoiler)
What I didnt like about it! (view spoiler)
Overall I did give it 4 stars and it did have me turning the pages.
Since Jack's dealing with severe Insomnia (view spoiler)I loved the pool scenes very much (view spoiler)
What I think about the FBI men, I don't think I need to repeat and I'm glad I'm not the only one ;-) (view spoiler)
I have the impression the chapters written from the POV of the GBM were pretty scary for all of us. I was shocked the shortest chapter in the book (chapter 10) was the one most intense for me. It was less than half a page (five sentences only) and still it transported so much.
I finished today as well and thought it was a great book overall. It was so fast paced and easy to read.I loved the whole (view spoiler) I haven't looked at the next one yet to see how the timeframe goes, whether it continues days later or if it is "some time" later.
I gave it 4 stars, but debated on giving it 5. Although it isn't literary genius, I can't wait to read the next one and that should count for something!
Do we want to set a date for book 2?
Vicki's Review
I had to contemplate also if I wanted to give it a 4 or 5 also.I already have my list for this month and have 3 buddy reads. I am very flexible next month. I am just going to put a date out there and if its not good for you we can change it and discuss when it would be good for all of us. How does Oct. 1st sound?
Would you guys like a separate thread for a buddy read each month or would you prefer to add to here? I'm quite happy to set up new treads as and when you guys would like.
I think a different thread for each book/series of books would be good so we can keep track and not have to read through random things. That way too when it is over, someone who reads it later could find the thread and comment on it.
Sean wrote: "Next buddy read could be The Magpies, I enjoyed the book"Great! I am really looking forward to reading this next month!
Also Melanie and I are doing a BR of Every Dead Thing which is the first book of the Charlie Parker Series
starting tomorrow 9/16 if anyone is interested. I am making the thread now.
