I'm putting this series here, because although there are gay characters in the books, their sexuality doesn't feature heavily. They don't take centre stage, especially in the first two books. But they are included, so people who enjoy mysteries but only read LGBT stories may enjoy these three books.

As mysteries, these books are pretty amazing. Scott Edwards is a smart writer. The plots of the books are incredibly complex. The research undertaken is meticulous. Each police procedure is carefully explained, but is never boring.

The pacing is tight. I found it hard to stop reading, and spent way too long avoiding house work and sleep to finish the series.

The recurring characters are appealing. Captain Alexander Moffat's a quiet, introspective but intuitive detective. He sometimes surprises his partner, Sergeant Jason De Le Pena, with his non-abrasive interviewing style. Moffat gets results, though, even if the reader isn't quite sure that things will turn out well.

I started this series reading Book 2 first. I understood everything, without knowing too much about the characters, but would recommend people new to the series start with Book 1, which gives the main characters' descriptions and back stories.

I think Book 3 was the best in the series, by a teeny margin. The introduction of Gina, the 10 year old child genius, was a superb touch. She's a great addition to the cast of regular characters.

I was more than happy to learn that there's a fourth story, hopefully to be released in November this year. I can't wait to read it.
