Eli glanced at her before back to his wrist.

"You sure you don't know who they were?" She asked, referring to his soul mate.
Eli shrugged. "I don't know. I've pretty much always had it covered or been trying to remove it..."
She sighed. "Hm, yeah." She said softly, wondering about her soul mate. He had probably died.
"Why? You didn't do anything, did you?" She asked, confused.
"Well, I don't have an answer to your question..."
"You're sorry about that? It's alright, jeez. I was just curious," she said, shrugging.
"I wish mine worked," she said softly.
"All of them worked, or still do work.." He said softly.
She looked at him. "Who is it then? I didn't meet anyone when it reached zero, but you. And I don't think you would ever be my soul mate."
"Well, from what I've heard from others, their timers haven't been wrong..." Eli commented, running his thumb along the scratched display of his timer.
Ella glanced at him. "I don't even think we go together, though. You probably still hate me. It's probably just that you're mine, but I'm not yours. A shame," she said, shrugging.
"Why would they make the timers work like that though?"
"Because they're mean. I probably deserve it, though," she said, standing.
"Why does everyone say such Bull- like that." Eli said, sounding frustrated.
"Sorry, won't happen again, sir." She said, with a mock salute.
Eli glared at her, not finding it funny.
"I'm sorry, jeez. Why do you even care?" She said, frowning.
"No, tell me," she said, crossing her arms.
"You don't salute right." He replied.
"No, why'd you say the thing about everybody saying stuff like that. Why do you care?"
"Because its' not true... It's the world that's messed up. People saying they deserve this or whatever is total bull.. Nobody deserves to be hurt or anything."
"How do you know that? Does a murderer not deserve to be hurt? Anyways, I might deserve it, you don't know. I've obviously gotten a lot of stuff thrown at my way, for no good reason, so maybe it's just me."
"That's not what I mean.." Eli sighed, unsure how to explain.
"Hm, then what?" She asked, watching him.
"I don't know how to explain.. Just like people saying they deserve something, it's so far from the truth..,,"
"I get it, kind of. I do deserve not getting a soulmate though, I have been a really bad person in the past. It's just karma."
"So? Being bad doesn't mean you don't deserve good or something.." Eli shrugged.
"Whatever. What made you care, hm?" She asked.
"Because i've known people who haven't deserved the bad they received and people who've thought they were bad and they honestly deserved something good.."
She sighed, glancing at him. "I'm sorry. Shouldn't have asked," she said softly. She looked away, watching the river flow.
She looked away, not sure what to say.
Eli looked back to his wrist, sighing
"Who do you think she is, though?" She asked.
"Really?" She asked, watching him carefully.
"I dunno, just being stupid, I guess," she said softly.
She stayed silent, glad he didn't point out her red nose and swollen eyes.
