So the story starts with the main female character going on a ski vacation with her friend just after college I think. she meets a slightly older guy and they hit it off instantly. they end up sleeping together and she freaks out and runs away bc it was her first time and she thinks he must have played her. Years later she is a successful interior decorator and is hired to redo a plantation in the south, maybe LA? Turns out the man who hired her was the main guys dad. They meet again at the plantation and she flips but cant quit bc she really likes the father and dosent want to disappoint him. There are two people of work for them in the house and the house keepers name is Dearly Beloved. The dad ends up getting put in the hospital, overhears the main people talking about their night together and secretly arranges for them to get married. Its an late 80's or 90's book I think. I believe the dads name is something along the lines of Rayburn
