SOLVED. Private Detective Story Set In USA (For Adults). [s]

I remember a book with a private detective protagonist. Big man, fit and good at unarmed combat. Ex-cop (not military - LAPD I think). Looks like a bum. I don't remember what's his name or the author of the series. So I will post some clues here in the hope that some of you might have read the same series too.

In the first novel I read, our hero made his first appearance rooting through garbage as part of an investigation for a client. He was later retained by his client - a father - to look for his missing son who was kidnapped earlier in the novel. Their adventures took them all the way to South America where the boy was sold to a child prostitution ring.

Next story in the series show him investigating the death of an MMA instructor.

Here's something interesting about this private detective. He actually grows as a martial artist. In the first novel, he mainly did boxing. But later on, in the second novel, he started doing MMA.

So anyone knows this hero or the name of the series?
