Elodie | 35 comments Hi all! I'm currently working on my first novel and I really have difficulties categorizing it. The story takes place in the year 2080, includes action, suspense, crime, and hot romance/erotica.
As there are only 2 categories I can choose from when uploading on KDP (and none really fits, haha), I want to make sure that I reach the right target group with my title/cover, so I thought about adding something like “Title (A ??? novel)”.
And this is where I need your help: “A Dystopian Hot Romance”, “A Hot Dystopian Romance”, “A Dystopian Hot Romance Novel”, or something else entirely?
It’s important to me that the reader knows that they’ll be confronted with a futuristic/SciFi story but I want to reach the female audience with the romance/erotica part.
Thanks in advance!

Joynell Schultz (joynellschultz) | 27 comments Regarding the categories on KDP, I'm not an expert, but I read you should pick ones that have less books listed in them... as long as they still fit your book.

I'm not good with marketing, but I like "A Sizzling Dystopian Romance"

Martin Rinehart Big problem, Elodie. I've thought about it a lot (re an 'erotic, married romance' set in 2004).

I think your on the right track with Title: Categorizing Sub-Title.

I'm not sure 'hot' isn't too overloaded with meanings to say anything specific. 'Erotic' (2nd choice, 'adult') advertises for readers who like explicit sex. Hopefully scares off those who don't approve.

My reading list is currently short, but I never met a dystopia I liked so probably wouldn't be good for you.
