message 3: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Morrison (chelsealouise07) Who are your favourite Authors?
Tamora Pierce, J.R.R. Tolkien are definite favorites.
I'd like to see more by Hannah Kent and Andy Weir, because they've both written a favorite book of mine.

What was your favourite childhood book?
Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce is what got me into reading in the first place. Shortly after that, in 4th grade, I read the Lord of the Rings series for the first time. And, of course, Harry Potter was great.

What's your preferred reading format (Paperback, Hardcover, E-Books, Audiobooks, etc.)?
Typically, paperback. I find them easier to hold onto. Hardcovers are nice though, because when I accidentally knock them behind my bed after I inevitably fall asleep, the covers don't rip like paperbacks do.

What are your favourite Genres?
Fantasy and science fiction.

What are your least favourite Genres?
Contemporary, though I've found several contemporary books lately that I've enjoyed.

Are you a fast Reader?
Yes, unless I'm busy with other things - for example, I've been reading my current read for about a week now because I'm busy studying for exams and such.

Are you a slow Reader?
Only if I'm busy.

Do you eat or drink while reading?
Always have tea or water. I never really eat while reading.

Can you listen to music while reading?
I don't typically like to, but I can.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?
Sun room is my favorite place to be! Other than that, my porch is great, and my living room is comfortable.

Can you read in public?
Yes, I do pretty much every day.

Do you have to stop at the end of a chapter or can you stop at any sentence?
The only time I stop at any sentence is if I fall asleep. I either have to stop at the end of a page or end of a chapter.

One book at a time or several at once?
Either! Right now, I'm only reading one. Sometimes, I'll read up to three!

message 6: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 33 comments Who are your favourite Authors?

So, so many- George R. R. Martin, Margaret George, Anita Diamant, Orson Scott Card, Jules Verne, etc.

What was your favourite childhood book?

I was addicted to all things Nancy Drew when I was around 7 and I still reread them if I am bored and I have an hour. Love them.

What's your preferred reading format (Paperback, Hardcover, E-Books, Audiobooks, etc.)?

A physical thing in my hand. I prefer to turn pages, but e-books are a miraculous thing due to the sheer level of storage. I have hundreds of books, but you wouldn't know it by looking at my house. Well, maybe you would, but your assumption would be several less hundred shy of the amount I actually have.

What are your favourite Genres?

Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Historical Fiction. I also really like non-fiction about subjects that I am interested in. I just recently read my first graphic novel and enjoyed that immensely as well.

What are your least favourite Genres?

Western and Romance. However, I like romance as a side plot in stories as long as it isn't super graphic or overly corny.

Are you a fast Reader?

Pretty fast. Not the fastest that I know of. Give me a solid 4 hours and I can finish most normal sized books.

Are you a slow Reader?

By virtue of the last question, nugatory.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

If the need arises, but usually I have to be super engrossed- like new Harry Potter/A Song of Ice and Fire book level engrossed.

Can you listen to music while reading?

I would never choose to listen to music while I am reading, but if my kids are watching TV/listening to music I am completely capable of tuning it out.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?

Bath Tub and I have a green chair I like to read in too, but I will do it anywhere, really.

Can you read in public?

All the time.

Do you have to stop at the end of a chapter or can you stop at any sentence?

I prefer to end at a chapter in a physical book, but in an e-book I can stop wherever as long as it is not super cliff-hanger-ish.

One book at a time or several at once?

I prefer to go one at a time, but I can read a fiction and non-fiction at the same time no problem.

message 7: by Jade (new)

Romance

Are you a fast Reader?
Depends on the Book, If I'm enjoying the book I'll be able to read it Faster.

Are you a slow Reader?
If I'm not enjoying the Book.

Do you eat or drink while reading?
I like drinking Coffee while reading, and usually only eat while reading when I'm Participating in a Read-a-thon.

Yes, I can listen to music while reading, if it's not too loud, and I can listen to Instrumentals while reading.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?
I will read anywhere.

Can you read in public?
Yes, I get Most of my reading done in Public.

Ashley (mochi234) | 54 comments Who are your favourite Authors?
Jim Butcher, Amy Tan, Sarah Dessen
What was your favourite childhood book?
Nancy Drew
What's your preferred reading format (Paperback, Hardcover, E-Books, Audiobooks, etc.)?
Paperback or hardback
What are your favourite Genres?
YA, fiction, fantasy, adventure, mystery
What are your least favourite Genres?
Usually sci-fi, dystopian but it depends b/c I love Legend by Marie Lu. 99% of the time non-fiction unless it's something like Amy Tan's memoir that was wonderful! Pretty much 100% romance
Are you a fast Reader?
Yep
Are you a slow Reader?
If I have a lot of school work, yes
Do you eat or drink while reading?
Yep
Can you listen to music while reading?
Yep
Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?
On the couch b/c the lighting is great, or on my bed b/c the pillow propups and stuffed animals are comfy
Can you read in public?
Yep, actually prefer to do so b/c I don't want random ppl talking to me on the bus lol
Do you have to stop at the end of a chapter or can you stop at any sentence?
Stop anywhere, but prefer it to be at the end of a paragraph, especially one that doesn't necessarily lead immediately into the next one
One book at a time or several at once?
Many books at once. I usually start around 1-2, then jump to 5 books at once, not that the books are boring just that I need to read different things and not the same thing everyday

Bookcrazy ~ So what? I'm still a rock star~ | 43 comments I am an insanely fast reader - books with weird dialogue etc kill me cuz I can't read them as fast. On a good weekend (no annoying parents) I probably go through fifteen or so ya books (I find adult books are usually longer).

I don't usually listen to music at the same time because it's distracting.

Favorite author would be Ally Carter because she is the only author I know where I love every single one of her books. Go Ally!

Childhood book maybe Lord of the Rings.

I cannot deal with e-books or audiobooks (Cuz I can't go super fast, I get bored). I don't care between hardcover and paperback.

I read all genres of ya fiction, in adult I read romance, books by ex-SAS (I know that's not a category but it is to me- Chris Ryan, Andy Mcnab), and Star Wars.

I read everywhere, people only bother me when they try to talk to me.

I don't stop unless I have to, if I stop I can stop anywhere but I always start again asap. If I'm bored I'll skim to give it a chance and then if its still boring drop it.

I never read more than one book at once. Mostly because I read so fast, also it feels like sacrilege to be pulled between worlds/characters like that.

Sorry my answers are out of order. :-)

message 10: by Meredith (new)

Meredith (xfirefly9x) Who are your favourite Authors?
Kim Wilkins, Douglas Adams, Tricia Sullivan, Charlie N Holmberg, V E Schwab.

What was your favourite childhood book?
Animorphs series, anything by Diana Wynne Jones.

What's your preferred reading format (Paperback, Hardcover, E-Books, Audiobooks, etc.)?
Paperback or ebooks.

What are your favourite Genres?
Sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism...

Are you a fast/slow reader?
Depends what I'm reading.

Do you eat or drink while reading?
Not really.

Can you listen to music while reading?
If music is on, I zone it out while reading. I prefer to read when it's quiet, though.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?
I mostly read in bed or in my study.

Can you read in public?
Yes, but I tend to read more at home.

Do you have to stop at the end of a chapter or can you stop at any sentence?
I prefer to stop at the end of a chapter, but can stop elsewhere too. If I stop at any sentence, I'll generally just reread that same page when I return to reading.

One book at a time or several at once?
Usually several at once (2 or 3).

message 11: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Heron | 33 comments Who are your favourite authors?
Sarah J. Maas, Tahereh Mafi, Colleen Oakes and Ransom Riggs.

What was your favourite childhood book?
When I was in around 4th grade, I started reading Ever After High.

What's your preferred reading format? (Paperback, hardcover, e-books, audiobooks etc.)
I don't mind either paperback or hardcover, but I don't like reading on an electronic device.

What are your favourite genres?
Fantasy, supernatural and dystopian.

Are you a fast/slow reader?
To be honest, it depends on the book. If I really enjoy the book and I can't put it down, then I'll read really fast, but if I kind of procrastinate about reading the book, then I'll either stop reading it or just read it really slow.

Do you eat or drink while reading?
Yes.

Can you listen to music while reading?
Nope. If I start listening to music, I'll start singing and dancing and not focusing on the book.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?
Only on my bed, if that counts as a 'certain spot'.

Can you read in public?
No, I can't. I focus on the noise around me, than the book.

Do you have to stop at the end of a chapter or can you stop at any sentence?
At the end of a chapter because if I stop at a sentence, I'll forget where I have to read from.

One book at a time or several at once?
I prefer one book at a time.

Melanie (TBR and Beyond) (tbrandbeyond) | 31 comments Who are your favourite Authors?

What are your favourite Genres?

Fantasy, Sci-fi and paranormal. I have been reading more contemporary lately as well.

Romance - I might indulge in one from time to time but they usually don't draw me in like other genres.

Are you a fast Reader?

I think I'm decent.

Are you a slow Reader?

If I'm in a slump lol

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I drink but I am picky about getting stuff on my books so I try and avoid touching stuff while I'm eating.

Do you have one certain spot where you read at home?

Bed or couch but I'm getting a nice big chair for reading in January!

Can you read in public?

Yes, but I'm noise sensitive and easily distracted so sometimes I just stare at one page the entire time lol

I can stop whenever. If I'm dead-tired then I just give up lol

One book at a time or several at once?

Usually have between 3-5 books going at any given time. A couple of those always get put on the back burner though lol
