I haven't started the book yet, but if you have I'd love to know y'all's thoughts on it so far!

sheep sheep (nnnnl) | 2 comments I have started the book and I find it to be kind of weird. This book just does not stick with me. The writing is very pretty and poetic but I don't think that it needs to be poetic. All of the vivid similes and metaphors take away from the plot, I find it hard to follow and confusing. Kate, the female lead is a classic rebel without a cause. And not even a well written one a that. In the first chapter she burned down her school just because she didn't want to be there anymore. I feel like her mentality is "I don't care how many people I hurt as long as I'm happy".I find her to be mean, annoying and selfish. Schwab tries to make her seem powerful and bad@$$ but it just does not work out.August, the male lead is broody and poetic and dark, which would be fine if it was not emphasized so much. He's supposed to be swoon worthy with all of his broodiness and poeticness but it just annoys me. Sometimes I just want to scream "GET OVER YOURSELF AND BE USEFUL!!!!! I DON'T CARE IF YOUR HEART IS A VAT A DARKNESS JUST DO SOMETHING!" To add to the tortured soul charm he also has a meaningfull tatoo. The characters in general are all cardboard cutouts. They have no real personality, no real depth (And no, having a dark past. does not count as depth or personality).I'm only about half way so I hope that it gets better.

Emma Smith I started the book today! I found the writing style strange at first, but when the chapters passed by, I completely stopped noticing. The plot was fascinating and the characters intriguing. I finished it in one sitting and can't wait to talk about!
