"Yeah.." Kyrian nodded, moving his jaw slightly so she could see the odd spot on the left side where the bone didn't quite line up smoothly. "Was heading toward the ground to quickly and couldn't catch any wind to glide on, fell and hit my jaw on a rock. I don't recommend it." He explained calmly, biting his bottom lip.

"And that about sums up why I haven't learned how to fly. If you must know I fell off a cliff trying to avoid getting punched by a fist the same size as me, so I'm not entirely at fault." Ekko shrugged as if her sprained wrist was just an inevitable predicament. "How do you even do it anyway? Flying I mean. I'd be so terrified my wings would freeze up or something."
"Watch.." Kyrian shrugged, not knowing how to explain with words. He stepped off the edge, his wings unfurling. He flapped them a few times, starting to move smoothly through the air. He just relaxed, trusting the wind to assist him as he flew around in lazy circles near the cave.
And Ekko did watch, completely fascinated by the stranger's graceful flying. She'd never seen anything like it and was completely enraptured. Ekko hugged her knees to her chest and her sensitive bat ears picked up the sounds of his wings cutting through the wind. It was completely relaxing and made her wish that bats flew more like birds did.
Kyrian continued to fly around for a few more minutes, doing a few tricks and stuff, just to show up. He flew back to the cave entrance, landing gracefully and folding his wings up. "Ta-da." He muttered softly.
Ekko would have applauded if it weren't for, you know, the sprained wrist and all, so instead she whistled appreciatively. "Very impressive stranger. Graceful as a pigeon, and probably smart as one too." She teased, no real heat behind her words.
Kyrian nodded. "I do have a name you know.." He commented softly. He ran a hand through his hair, stepping deeper inside the cave so he could sit down.
"I'm sure you do, but the whole point is that I'm not psychic and you haven't told me. So stranger it is." Ekko began fiddling with the bandage on her wrist in boredom, only to drop her arm into her lap in exasperation and give the stranger a look. What kind of look? Ekko didn't know until she was already looking at him slightly with exasperation, slightly with longing, and a whole lot with annoyance. "Besides, I'm not telling you my name, in this day and age getting to know strangers is typically dangerous."
Kyrian rolled his eyes at her. "Okay. Whatever. I'm not planning on killing you or anything. Just so you know." He said with a shrug, biting his lip and looking around them. He just helped her from being killed but clearly that didn't matter very much.
"That sounds exactly like something a killer would say." Ekko teased, still sitting at the entrance of the cave. She felt a little uncomfortable without any real invitation to stay, but the stranger kept talking to her so she wasn't just going to leave. Ekko felt stuck in some sort of strange social limbo, not that she minded, because she didn't have anywhere to go if she left.
"Okay. Well. If I wanted to kill you, I probably would've done it already. Or, I could've just left you out there for that beast to kill you instead." Kyrian shrugged, rolling his eyes. He sat down against the cave wall.
"I was joking Stonewall." Ekko replied and returned the eye roll. "Why so serious all the time anyway? It's the apocalypse, not Sunday best. We're all going to die anyway so we might as well enjoy what little time we have left." Ekko found her new companion to be... Unnerving, to say the least. Or maybe that wasn't the right word for it. Whatever it was about him, she didn't understand the guy.
"Well, I'm planning on actually trying to live through the apocalypse. Not die in it.." Kyrian muttered in annoyance. He looked over at her, sighing. He didn't understand why she thought everything would be all good and fine earlier. It's the apocalypse. It's not gonna be fine.
"So you think the radiation is just going to go away? Okay, fine, whatever you think." Obviously Ekko didn't agree that living through the apocalypse was going to happen. There were just too many variables that could go wrong and she already had a close brush with death earlier that day.
"I don't think that it's going to go away. But I'm planning on at least trying to stay alive as long as I can." He answered simply, shrugging. Kyrian looked around the cave he called Home, thinking.
No wonder the stranger was such a killjoy. Ekko was a firm believer in the idea that if you weren't enjoying the life you were living anymore, then what was the point of surviving? Better to be reckless and happy rather than careful and miserable. "Okay fine, whatever. You wouldn't happen to have any water though, would you? I do not want to climb back down only to die of Dehydration at the bottom of the cliff."
Kyrian kinda enjoyed this life. It was different and difficult. It challenged him. "Oh yeah." He got up and brought a full water bottle over to her, biting his lip lightly.
"Thanks." Ekko smiled and took the water bottle, staring a little too long at the stranger once again. She was probably never going to get used to seeing another person. It was already weird that she was having a conversation with someone other than herself for the first time in a long ass time. "I guess I'll see you around neighbor. I live just on the other side of the valley if you need anything I guess."
Kyrian nodded. "Come find me if you ever wanna learn how to fly.. I could teach you.." He offered with a shrug, running a hand through his hair and looking around. He sat back down near the cave mouth, looking outside and listening for any sounds of life other than them..
"Yeah sure. If I ever get over my fear of heights that is." She smiled nervously before turning and climbing down the cliff side. Ekko wasn't really afraid of heights, but telling the stranger she was afraid to trust her wings to keep her in the air would be even sillier than a fear of heights.
Kyrian rolled his eyes. He watched as she climbed down the cliff side, making sure she was safe and wouldn't fall. He yawned softly, tired for some reason but then again, he always slept during the day and explored more at night.
Ekko made it to the bottom of the cliff fairly easily. Going down was usually much harder than going up because you couldn't see footholds, but she managed. Next came the long walk across the valley back to her own destroyed home. It was going to be just peachy trying to sort out her stuff and rebuild, Ekko figured it would take her a while because she hadn't even built the house in the first place. A lot of things got harder when her parents were no longer around. It took Ekko the rest of the day, but she managed to get back home by sunset. Normally it shouldn't have taken her so long, but Ekko got turned around a few times and she was walking instead of sprinting at full speed.
As she suspected, the place was in shambles. Ekko would have to be careful lighting fires because they would be seen for miles with a large hole like that one in the side of her house. Ekko sighed, throwing a tarp over what little wall she had left for a makeshift tent and decided to go to sleep. She could deal with this mess in the morning.
Ekko fell into a dreamless sleep for the night.
