I have edited them but they are already very well written. There is no theme, but an eclectic collection of short stories. They range from 1500+ to 6000+ words.

Thanks Denise.

Trust me they are good. Either way, I am determined to get them published. I'm compiling them at the moment. Send your story to me I'll put it on the file and send it to you. If you don't like the other stories, you can let us know that you're not interested in this anthology. I'll look for another publisher then.

That's fine then. Sorry about the misunderstanding. They are all literary fiction and excellent pieces. Why don't you send me one of your stories and let me be the judge. Objective view is important when it comes to creative writing I think.

Denise, can you send me you email please. I would like to add it to my email thread/loop that I'm sending out to everyone to keep you updated since you would be publishing the anthology.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Appologize if my questions sound naive, since I don't know how anthologies work, but I thought it'd be cool to be on the same page:

Having a story in the anthology, does it preclude having it published elsewhere?
I'm totally for routing the proceeds to charity, but I'm thinking whether it's better charge for it or simply make it free of charge? I'm not sure whether I'm correct and probably Eldon as an accountant would know better, but the sale is probably still reportable income, however you use the proceeds, no? Unless maybe we waive our rights for royalties in the context of anthology or something like that?

message 71: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Yeah, I hope they'll refer to them

message 72: by Eldon (new)

Eldon Farrell | 704 comments The tax issues are one of the main reasons I campaigned early on for free. Even donating the proceeds can get complicated as we're dealing with different jurisdictions that cross international borders.

I also wonder if we have the right to mention MSF without their approval? It's possible they might not want to be associated with this project and by invoking them we could be in trouble.

But back to the tax issue. My thought is whoever receives the funds will be responsible for paying any tax. Likewise, they will receive the deduction for the donation based on the rules of their country.

This means as publisher, Denise will likely have to deal with this. So Denise, it's really up to you as to how you'd like to proceed.

That too. I have just asked Denise to dedicate the book to refugees around the world. It would not have been possible without authors. Denise and Eldon. Thank you so very much. I'm proud to be a member of this group.

Without borders is a great title. You might want to tell this to Denise.

message 74: by Eldon (new)

Eldon Farrell | 704 comments Dedication sounds good to me Denise!!

I think as for authors on the cover we should just leave it blank. Maybe mention "proceeds to charity" or something.

message 75: by Annie (last edited Aug 20, 2016 09:52AM) (new)

Annie Arcane (anniearcane) *appears in a cloud of smoke*

The simplest way is to make a private donation but since y'all have veered away from that...

Some charities require you obtain permission to associate their name with your product/enterprise/whatevs, particularly in long-term, open-ended cases (such as this). Personally, I'd contact someone and ask or at the very least, read carefully through their policies.

Then again, I'm a stickler for legalities so there's that, eh? Anyhoo...

*disappears*

EDIT: Oops, totes forgot to say! Some states actually require you to have an acceptance letter from X charity. I'm not sure how it works since there are multiple contributors from all over the place. My guess is it falls on Miss Denise as the publisher. But do NOT quote me on that haha!

Does participation in anthology interfere with individual publication of the same story as perma free on Amazon?

You're sweet. I'm almost convinced ^_~

@Mr Nik: You can have up to 10% of your paid book free elsewhere (since that's the Look Inside anyway). I guess it's a bit tricky with multiple authors, eh?

But don't worry! Amazon will let you know real quick if you violate their agreement. Trust me, I know. Cuz I totally did. And got a slap on the wrist LMAO!! Here's my "warning" letter if anyone wants to see it...

They were on me in a matter of hours. And once I pulled the serialized version down they published my book in no time at all. Yeahhh...

That's correct, Some contributing authors that I've solicited stories are not all from this group. But most of them are GRS members.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Annie wrote: "Amazon will let you know real quick if you violate their agreement...."

Thanks for bringing this. I didn't even think about Amazon's angle here and seeing the letter you've received, I guess the anthology won't be considered in 'public domain', but I see that Amazon might have problems with finding the content elsewhere.
I was thinking more of whether we commit between ourselves to have the stroies solely in the anthology or can publish them independently as well

That'a correct and I have sent this as blurb to everyone as well. Cheers. Strictly charity.

message 92: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments I agree with both points: to contribute to a charity and to gain exposure!-:)
Anthology or not, I wasn't counting earning from a short, so the more we are able to procure for the charity the better. I think Denise should have exclusivity and our backing that we promote the anthology on our social networks once it's aired. Also I thought that let's say after half a year or so whoever chooses can launch it independently too?
What do you think?

That's right. I'm with Denise here. She has my full support. After your exposure here, authors might get offers from other publishers to write something else. Why does it have to be this particular. short?

We're past that now so, I can agree to whatever Denise prefers as it relates to republishing.

A side note though for Denise to consider, should we contributors sign a contract resolving all these issues now before we go to print? Given all involved and the international borders involved might not be a bad idea...
