In 1974, the family of David and Jo Roper (two adults, three daughters 16, 14, and 8) embarked on a 50-day do-it-yourself tour of Europe armed with limited knowledge and even less money. Travel with them as they face the trials of getting from point A to point B to point Z, as they struggle with heavy luggage and finding somewhere to lay their heads at night, as they deal with buying food and finding somewhere to wash dirty clothes—often in countries where they cannot understand the people and the people cannot understand them. If you have traveled abroad, you will identify with their challenges. If you have not, you may find that the story brings both laughter and sighs.
David Roper and his family (wife Jo, daughters Cindy, Debbie, and Angi) were working with the Macquarie church of Christ and the Macquarie School of Preaching in Sydney, Australia, when the opportunity presented itself to spend almost two months in Europe. This account is based on copious notes Roper kept during the trip. He is a prolific writer, having written over fifty books and booklets on the Bible, history, visual aids, and magic. In recent years, he has written extensively for children (especially for Highlights for Children and Highlights High Five)
