He nodded softly, "she was hurt..." he said.

"Badly." She confirmed. "A group of drunk men beat her."
"I'm sorry," he said to the dog as he rubbed her head.
Sally barked and rubbed up against him."She's in good health though. Thanks to you bringing her in." Maggie said.
"Can we keep it daddy?" Amelia asked.
Elian looked up at Rebecca. "Can she keep it?" He asked softly.
Rebecca paused and looked to Maggie. "How long will her wounds take to heal?" She asked her.
"Another few weeks. She's in a special diet and is tired more easily but other than that she's in great shape for what she's been through."
She nodded and looked at Amelia and Elian. "Alright, alright."
"Yay!" She squealed. She hugged Rebecca then her dad.
Rebecca smiled, "you're welcome." She said and kissed her head.
She giggled and petted Sally with the biggest smile.
Elian watched his little girl with a smile. He looked up at Natalia, "you okay?" He asked.
Natalia nodded, sniffling. "She should be yours." She whispered.
"Hmm?" He asked, leaning his head against hers carefully.
"You need custody back over her." She told him.
He looked over at Rebecca and sighed, "thats not a good idea." He said softly.
She sighed, shaking her head. "You're fully capable of caring for her. With the help of me of course."
Elian nodded, "you'd help me?" He asked her softly.
"Of course of would." She said without hesitation.
"Thank you," he said and kissed her lips. "Thank you," he repeated, his heart swelling with both love and appreciation.
She smiled and kissed him back, wrapping her arms around him. "You're very welcome."
He looked back at his aunt. "Should I ask now?" He asked softly.
"If you want to. Ask if you can just have her for the weekend. Start minor." She said
He nodded and looked back at Amelia to watch her play.
Amelia ran around with the dog, giggling."I can bring the adoption papers by tomorrow." Maggie smiled.
Rebecca smiled at her old friend, "thank you."
"I'll see you." She squeezed her friend's hand then left.
Rebecca smiled and looked to Amelia again just as her husband walked in.
Natalia knelt down and strokes Sally's body with a small smile.
Rebecca stood and went to talk with him in the kitchen while she made dinner. "Wait, Katy's not home yet," Rebecca said, her eyes widening. "She's an hour later than usual."
"Should you call her?" Natalia asked Elian.
She picked up on the second ring. "Hey mom." She said
Rebecca relaxed immediately, "honey, where are you? You're late." she said.
"I know I'm sorry! I missed the bus so I had to take a transit bus. I'm on my way home now." She said
She sighed, "alright, are you far?" She asked:
"No. I'm right around the corner." She told her
"Alright, honey, see you in a bit," she said softly and hung up.
"Yeh, she says she missed the bus and she's on her way," she said.
Rebecca nodded, "you're staying for dinner, right?" She asked.
