Anyone Not Upgrading to Windows 10?

I'm definitely not upgrading - I'm on Windows 7 still. I disabled auto-update some years back, and never regretted it. It still functions very well, and is still supported by MS.
I have concerns around the recent news articles on the Windows 10 privacy record, and the mandatory updates worried me as well.

I'm deferring windows 10 until I replace my pc.

I tried Windows 10 and hated it. With Windows 7 I've learned over the years where everything is on my computer and how to access it. Windows 10 put a hard-to-penetrate idiot wall full of gadgets and geegaws between me and the stuff on my computer, and it took weeks to figure out how to get around it. I never did overcome it completely.
I like Windows 7; I'm used to it. I know where everything is. Finally I got an unwanted app, and had to reformat my hard drive to get rid of it. Eureka! Windows 7 was back! I gladly kept it.

I waited as long as I could. I hate changes. lol

Based on what you wrote, I now doubt I upgraded my husband's laptop correctly. I thought I would see a blue background with some random square menu. I do see that, but also see his old wallpaper AND icons. It's like he's got a combo upgrade?

Joseph, I had that problem Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning. I had to disable the firewall for it to finally come through.

Lisa, So far I only know Gimp does not get blown away when 10 is installed.
However, if anyone has the "starter version" of MS Word and Excel for 2010 ONLY, installing Windows 10 WILL delete the software and even if you have the disc, it is not compatible for some reason (like they want you to spend hundreds for a new version). All other versions of MS Office are compatible.

Ugh. Thanks for mentioning that. I'm using Office 2010. It came loaded on my laptop and I don't even have disks.

i use notepad++.
notepad++ should run on windows 10. very few users have reported issues, but some have:

i'm going to upgrade to win 10 this weekend. i upgraded my mom's laptop back in May and it's working well--although she's a pretty basic user.

Lisa, If you have the entire suite of Office 2010, you are all set. If you only have Word and Excel, that's the starter version and will be deleted.
To check what you have, please do the following:
1-Right click on your Word or Excel icon or menu item
2-Click on Properties
3-On the Details tab, look for the file name. If it's Microsoft Word 2010 Starter Version.Ink, that's what you have.

a) I don't like anything that pushy
b) I've heard so many people having problems
I simply don't want to lose all my precious files so am sticking with my Windows 8.
:-)

AMEN!!

Well, at least I know that I have the entire suite. Still not sure about the upgrade though. I guess I'll have to decide soon.
Thanks!

I was planning on making a final decision next week. If you don't mind updating the group about how the upgrade went this weekend, that would be great.

The hubby tells me he still has to update some drivers (I can't log into our home server for example) and there could be other programs that might give me troubles until then but I haven't found any yet.
Hope this helps.

When I first tried to upgrade I had to do it twice. It takes hours to complete, and you can use your computer during the process. So pick your time carefully. The first time, after it had nearly finished, it aborted, reloaded 7, and told me that I needed to reboot my computer in the safe mode and try again. I did it the next day, and it upgraded, but I had a problem trying to figure out how to get out of safe mode. Then I had to iron out several glitches, and spend several hours getting rid of stuff I didn't want. Wasn't long until I started missing Windows 7.

I didn't like Microsoft Edge, either. I run my browser inside a protective screen called Sandboxie, and it couldn't run Edge at all.

From then and on, he kept telling me that 10 was in no way like 8 and that I should go for it. Every time my favorite game would bug, he'd say that it didn't on his computer. However, I sometimes hear him swear after updates...so maybe it's not perfect.
We had been teasing each over the Windows. If he has a problem I tell him I don't and when I do, he tells me he doesn't. Anyway, with 10 not being offered free for much longer, I thought it'd be best to switch. My meager author revenue wouldn't pay for the windows upgrade if it become necessary.
As it happened to you, JS, I was afraid that at some point, MS would force me to update my Win7 and who knows what the new OS will be then. It could be worse than Win10. (Think Win8 for instance. /shivers)

GG You nailed my biggest concern about this debate and that is: when will MS stop supporting 7? Considering my luck with computers, I could see them announcing it next month and then I'd be stuck paying for 10 or something worse. LOL

I heard that support for Windows 7 will be withdrawn within a year...not sure how accurate that is.
Doesn't matter to me though, I'm sticking with Windows 7 as I have no interest in being a product tester for Microsoft!!

Microsoft stated that Windows 10 would be the last version. No Windows 11. The fact that they are now moving to the monthly subscription fees for Windows 10, seems to support this.

So does that mean that everyone who got Windows 10 "for free" will soon have to pay a monthly subscription just to keep it?

For now it's only the enterprise version and up. Who knows what the future will bring.

(Yeah, older computers but still runs better and faster than many of the newer ones so why would I change? :P )
Most things still work fine but Win10 is slowly removing programs that don't support it so...

Windows will provide you with your driver updates. Everything should keep working just fine.

I am sticking with windows 8.1. Just google "10 reasons to not upgrade to windows 10" and you will get about ten different versions of why not to and why you might want to.

I upgraded a while back when it first started asking me to upgrade. I lost my Live mail, and they later replaced it, but I also lost my printer driver. Now that's driving me nuts. I'm about to call Lexmark. My printer is quite new, I don't want to buy another one.
You know after reading all the problems (Microsoft and problems?? Go figure right lol) I'm so glad I told them to stick Windows 10 where the sun don't shine :D
I updated Hubby's laptop, but not mine. I'm concerned older programs might get blown away. I didn't notice this happening on my husband's laptop. It did take more than 24 hours to install Windows 10... old system.
