Terri I just put this book onto my "Next to Read" shelf so I was excited to see it had a trailer! I'm not an expert by any means but this trailer left me struggling. It was very short which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it didn't inspire me to go & pick up the book. :(

Same here Terri :(

message 4: by John (new)

John Cassian | 21 comments Fair enough. It was really meant to sort of capture the mood, but yeah, it's pretty short and doesn't give any details of the plot or anything.

I just think it was too short as far as trailers go. Doesn't necessarily mean book isn't any good.

The book actually sounds interesting.

message 7: by John (new)

John Cassian | 21 comments The book's super dark if you're into that kind of thing :) I'll work on some longer trailers that give more of a sense of plot. I'll let you guys know when they're ready!

message 8: by Terri (new)

Terri Exactly! For me, a trailer needs to go further than the overview on the book jacket. The other day I watched a trailer about a book about sex trafficking & the Russian Mafia. If I had picked this book up off the shelf & seen the reference to the Russians, I guarantee you I would have put the book back. The trailer made the book become way more than just the mafia angle & it's now on my TR shelf!

I am looking forward to reading Killing Matt Cooper regardless. The premise sounds really interesting!

I suppose this trailer is adequate enough since I did read this was a short story as well...or am I mistaken?

Please do! & I'll let you know when I've read the book!

message 13: by John (new)

John Cassian | 21 comments Donna, it's somewhere between novella and short story length -- 23,000 words.

message 14: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 112 comments I found the trailer captured a specific mood well, beyond that, I'm afraid I don't have an opinion. I recommend adding a little stock video/animation, available from many sites either free or very cheap, just to show that something happens in the story. As it is, the trailer gave me the impression that it's just reading a diary and I suspect there's more to it than that. I would love to see more :)

message 15: by Donna (new)

Donna | 3463 comments Mod
That's good Lily and very true about it needing something more,

message 16: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 112 comments I hope it helps.

message 17: by John (new)

John Cassian | 21 comments Thank you! I'm working on some longer trailers. The reason these are so short is that I made them using animoto, which lets you do 30-second trailers for free -- but charges you to make longer ones. I'm gonna mess around with my own video editing software to try and make some longer ones.

Donna | 3463 comments Mod
Sounds good...
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

message 19: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 112 comments I'm indifferent to length. It could be 10 seconds or 10 minutes, if it's gets straight to the point, that's enough for me.

There's a lot of freeware video editing software. I recommend looking them up on CNET.

I will warn you though, the longer the trailer, the more viewers will expect it to play like a movie, which you may not want.

You have a point Lily.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 112 comments Just sharing my experience as a graphic designer, if it helps, great, if it doesn't, ignore me!

Donna | 3463 comments Mod
I really think you make an excellent point.
A trailer can often play out like a movie and like you said, that can be a good thing or a bad thing. There's no pleasing some people so you have to find a balance between the two.
Not too long...
Not too short...
Just enough to get some satisfaction ;)
AGAIN, no pun!

message 23: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) | 112 comments I don't believe you. There's totally a pun in there lol

Terri K. I've had this book on my TBR shelf forever. I'm going to check out the trailer & see if it inspires me to move it up on my list. I'll keep you posted!

message 34: by S (new)

S | 93 comments For some strange reason, hell Yeah!I mean only the fact that we could be in a serial killer's mind and see why the do what they appareantly do would be facinating and of course creepy but facinating. TBR LIST!

message 43: by Janet (new)

Janet Hi! Looks interesting, but the trailer doesn't tell me much! Please don't be offended!!

message 44: by John (new)

John Cassian | 21 comments None taken :) I guess it's more a "teaser" than a true trailer. It's really trying to establish a mood. And it's also short because I used a free program to make it and the limit for the free videos is 30 seconds hah.

message 45: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) Very nice trailer. To answer the question, it depends. Most serial killers tend to be well all the same, their deep dark sinister creepy backgrounds definitely make for a good read(no pun intended) but at the same time reading a diary of such a person? could be creepy for sure.

I'd read Manson's if he has one, just to laugh at all the crazy stuff that's in there, the guy's gotta be beyond out of his mind after being in prison for 40 years.

message 46: by Joseph (new)

Joseph DiFrancesco | 47 comments Interesting. My curiosity is piqued. But it may be disturbingly dark. I don't know....

message 47: by John (new)
