I am putting this in YA because it is a very broad book. It is fantasy, it is Dystopia, it is Romance, it is a retelling, it is Steampunk. It's all over the place.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer.
Read. This. Book.
Now.
Seriously, the characters in this book...I love them. Every single one of them. Each book there are 1-2 more characters, which I thought would be annoying but it's not. It adds to the magic that is this book.
Overall
Cinder is a cyborg on a planet plagued by a non treatable disease, and are on the brink of war with an alien race who have the ability to basically control your mind and what you perceive as reality.
Cinder lives with her evil stepmother and stepsisters, who resent her for being cyborg, and who blames her when her sister contracts the plague.
Cinder crosses path with the Prince, and Cinder finds out the truth about who she is and where she came from.
Characters
Ahhhh Cinder. She is perfect. She can kick ass, yet can't resist Prince Kai, who is also pretty amazing. Though of all the characters he is my least favorite.
Plot
Um excuse me, a cyborg girl who is based off of Cinderella...yes please.
The story flows so amazing, and though some of it was very obvious, I didn't mind. It still kept you on your toes and wanting more. It ends perfectly as well.
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys retellings, fairy tales, YA, romance, and kick-ass female characters.
