Shortbread cookies from the book The Body in the Basement by Katherine Hall Page.Ingredients
1/4 ts Salt
1 c Unsalted butter
1/2 c Dark brown sugar
2 c Flour
1/2 ts Baking Powder
1 c Finely chopped walnuts or
Original recipe makes 36 Servings
Preparation
Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder together and set aside. Cream the butter until soft and gradually add the sugar. Add the flour mixture a little at a time and mix well. Refrigerate for one hour. Divide the dough in half and keep one portion in the refrigerator while rolling out the other to approximately 1/4" thickness. (The dough gets soft quickly.) Sprinkle the dough with the nuts and gently press them in with the rolling pin. Cut into 1-1/2" squares. Prick with a fork and place the squares on an ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat with the rest of the dough. Bake until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes in a preheated 350F oven. Makes 6 dozen squares.

I almost forgot to eat because I was busy with #saveourcozies #readathon. I missed a few hours this morning when we went out for brunch.

did you like them?
Apple Spice Cupcakes from Krista Davis's The Diva Frost A Cupcake! I made these a few weeks ago and they were gone before the end of the day! I love to bake so I have made multiple recipes from books! My next goal is to get them all in a recipe book so I don't have to hunt down the book to find the recipe!

I also didn't snack at all today. In fact, I didn't eat enough food or drink enough water or coffee. My mind was so busy and my hands going all the time when I wasn't reading that I totally forgot to eat and wasn't hungry. Lovely Being on a major long term diet made reading all of Joanne Fluke's books, one after another, really difficult. I would be salivating at her descriptions of the goodies and the recipes that were so clearly easy to prepare with easy to obtain ingredients. I didn't make anything, I never tried any of them, I didn't copy any of them out. I suppose I could just find one of the books and open at any recipe and type it out because boy they all seemed good. I've read a lot of cozies with recipes but these were the only ones that I felt I could actually make myself and I have never baked a thing in my life.
Yes, the shortbread cookies are very good! They're very rich. If you cut them into small pieces like the directions say they are perfect. I've made them a few times.

Ronnie,
Way to go! I got 70 pages since I could not do vlog hour so I read
instead.
I have hypoglycemia so I cannot eat sugar. Sad but true I gave up all sugar a while ago. I ate a organic greens salad with a Boca burger grilled and cooked white beans for dinner with Thyme, garlic and pepper. and will put them on more greens. Then I grilled Brussels Sprouts with lemon, pepper, and olive oil.

Salads are among my favorites too.
No pictures because it was before I had a digital camera, but the only recipe I ever tried from a book was Frosted Ginger Snaps from one of Diane Mott Davidson's Goldy Schulz books. I even forget which book the recipe was in. I enjoyed the cookies, but found the recipe was a lot of work for something that was not as good as I thought they would be. I haven't tried any other recipes from cozies or cozy mystery blogs/sites. Maybe it's time to find one to try.
