Catherine Series: The Christine Bennett series by Lee Harris (sorry I keep talking about these books, but they really are my favorite!)
Christine: Felicity Jones with an American accent
Jack: since we're really going crazy here, Jake Gyllenhaal

They did do one of these books as a TV movie but it wasn't at all how I pictured it. I think it might have been made in Canada. I had a hard time finding it!

message 8: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (rivertam) | 24 comments I'd love if they did a Meg Langslow series as long they didn't totally miscast the characters like they did with Hannah Swensen. As for ideal casting I would have to think that over. It's such a wonderful series I'm not sure I could do it justice.

Lynn (lynnali) | 7 comments This was tough for me because so many of the actors I imagine in the roles are dead. It was very hard for me to cast the twins.

Series: Ashley Gardner's Captain Lacey

Characters:
Captain Lacey —Robert Sean Leonard
Lady Donata — Kathleen Turner
Grenville — Stephen Mangan
Matthias/Bartholomew — Hugh Bonneville
Marianne — Elizabeth Berkley
Denis — James Caan
Brewster — Forrest Whitaker

Edited to add: though I hope they are not made into a series/movie because I would hate for the roles to be cast against my vision of the characters. I'm pretty sure the author didn't have Stephen Mangan in mind for Grenville, but it's who I see.

message 18: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 26 comments Some of my favorites have already been made into movie series, The Flower Shop Mysteries by Kate Collins, the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, and the Hannah Swensen Mysteries by Joanne Fluke. However, I would definitely NOT have cast Brooke Shields as the main character in the Flower Shop Mysteries. Did the people who hired the cast not bother reading the books? Abby is a REDHEAD, not a brunette! They could have at least had her temporarily dye her hair to do the movies, or wear a wig or something, if they were so set on Brooke Shields playing the part. For another thing, Brooke is way too old to play the part, Abby is only 27 (this is pointed out several times in the books). Other than the obvious physical differences though, she does do a good job with the role, and I actually like her as an actress, I just think they should have paid more attention when casting the role.

I think Allison Sweeney is a great choice for Hannah, and Candice Cameron Bure for Aurora Teagarden.

I would actually love to see the Cat Who books made into a series, even if it's a movie series like the ones above, but after a while they would have to come up with their own ideas if it were a regular series as she only wrote 30 books (and I don't remember if that number is with or without the last one she was working on when she died, that she decided to not have published). But with that many books to work with, it would definitely be a while before they ran out of movies to make!

As for who would play Qwill...Tom Selleck comes to mind, he definitely has the mustache for it, and he's even the right age to play the part (and has experience playing a detective, both as Magnum and in his current role on Blue Bloods, plus playing Jesse Stone in all those Hallmark movies). I'm not sure who should play Iris Cobb in the earlier ones...Angela Lansbury maybe, but that would just make people think of Jessica Fletcher too much; Betty White, maybe? If she can stick around long enough, that is :P

Ed Asner for Archie, but we have the same problem there, at his age would he be able to finish all the movies?

Maybe Macaulay Culkin or his brother Kieran for Junior Goodwinter, although he'd have to go back to being a blonde for the part. Rory would be good too, but he's a little young for the role, although Junior even in his mid 30s still looks barely old enough to shave, so he could probably pull it off, but would have to do something about his hair if it's still long, as Junior always has short hair.

Jackie Catering to Nobody (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #1) by Diane Mott Davidson

Goldy: Jenna Elfman
Arch: Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory)
John Richard Korman: Simon Baker
Tom: Blake Shelton
Marla: Kirstie Alley

message 34: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 26 comments Arch is only in his late teens, maybe early twenties, so Simon Helberg is way too old to play the part. He doesn't even look young enough to play the part. Rory Culkin still looks like a teenager, even though he's going to be 27 next month, and might be able to pull it off. He even has the dark hair already. Maybe Edward Furlong could still pull it off even though he's almost 40 because he still looks young. Simon Baker as the Jerk would be perfect! :D So would Kirstie Alley as Marla, especially with the weight issues she's had in real life, and Marla has issues in the book with her weight (as well as heart issues, which caused her doctor to put her on a restricted diet which she is constantly tempted to break) so she would go into the role already knowing the struggles Marla deals with and could empathize.

Blake Shelton sounds like a good pick to me, but where would he find the time? :P

Jenna Elfman would be good for Goldy, or maybe Melanie Griffith (she doesn't look too bad for being almost 60) or Kathryn Morris (from Cold Case).

message 35: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Thanks Christie. The reason I chose Helberg is because he is short, awkward, and nerdy. I think he looks fairly young.

message 36: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 26 comments Sheldon looks a lot closer to the right age than Howard, and I don't think even he could pull it off. :P Maybe Leonard. ;) (Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki---couldn't remember their real names, had to go look them up.) Jonny Lee Miller might have been able to pull it off a few years ago, but not any more, he's actually started to look his age (he'll be 44 in November). Even Daniel Radcliffe could probably still pull off late teens/early 20s, and he's going to be 27 in a week. I would definitely watch it then! :-P Who am I kidding, I'd watch it anyway, I love Goldy Bear and her whole crazy family!

message 37: by Christie (last edited Jul 16, 2016 09:00PM) (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 26 comments The Betsy Devonshire series...

Betsy: Melanie Griffith, Kathryn Morris (bit of a stretch on age), or Barbara Niven (she currently plays Hannah Swensen's mom in the Murder, She Baked mystery movies). Christine Lahti could probably pull it off, too.

Goddy: Matt Bomer (okay, that's typecasting, but still...), Neil Patrick Harris (more typecasting), Taylor Kitsch (he did such a good job in The Normal Heart)

Jill Cross Larson: Taryn Manning, maybe Julie Benz (she's a little old, but not by too much), or Larisa Oleynik
