Gary | 1472 comments OK, this is kind of apropos of nothing other than a general sort of "what's going on in pop culture?" kind of thing, but it's funny in that WTH? kind of way:
Two fall from cliff reportedly playing Pokemon Go

Two men suffered moderate injuries when they tumbled off a seaside cliff north of San Diego while reportedly playing Pokemon Go, fire officials said Thursday.

The pair fell after climbing a fence and disregarding warning signs in order to get on the bluff in Encinitas, Calif., said Fire Marshal Anita Pupping.

One of the men told sheriffs’ deputies that he and his friend were playing the smartphone augmented-reality game Pokemon Go when they fell over the cliff's edge, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. Pupping said she could not confirm the report. The names of the victims were not released.
Hokay.

First off, Fire Marshal Pupping? That's not a monster, is it? At the very least, that's got to be some trainer/opponent's name in a live action/computer animated film adaptation for 2018.

Second, "[t]wo men suffered moderate injuries" they say? Men? These are grownups? 18+ years old. Playing Pokemon Go to the point that they fall of a cliff? At a certain point, the Darwin Awards people need to get involved in this kind of reporting.

Third, two of them? They both fell off the cliff? The second one was so absorbed in chasing down a monster on his app that he didn't hear the first one go over the cliff? They went over at the same time somehow? How do two people go over a cliff like that?

Of course, the answer to #2 & #3 is surely some variation on "stupidity" but I'm still curious how this went down.

+1
Yeah, I am not surprised about this. I'm sure we'll eventually hear of more horror stories.

Gary | 1472 comments I've read 2-3 stories about people walking into traffic and such-like. I'm sure there are people banging into one another at malls or wandering off in the middle of meetings for no apparent reason.

"Sorry, I have to take this..." but really there's a Squirtle or something they're after.
