First, Congratulations on completing the novel in, arguably, record time! Bravo, Ben!

I would recommend Carter's translation, as it is the only annotated version in English, plus it has wide margins to take notes.

Carter will be annotating each volume; the second will be coming out in 2015. I am not sure if it will be titled "Within a Budding Grove" or something else.

I believe every translation has something to offer.

The more I re-read, I find there are certain sentences I love more than others.
For instance, a favorite sentence in Moncrieff's:
"Oh, joy of joys! it is morning. The servants will be about in a minute: he can ring, and some one will come to look after him."
vs
Lydia Davis':
"How fortunate, it's already morning! In a moment the servants will be up, he will be able to ring, someone will come help him."

Sometimes, I dream about "cutting and pasting" all my favorite sentences together in my own "translation." My husband suggests that I learn French instead. ;)
