Kelly | 998 comments Sharp Objects is an excellent book. Camille is an average reporter who is sent to her small home town of Windy City to report on the murder of two girls that happened over the last year. This stirs up a lot of memories for Camille. She is forced to reunite with her mother and half sister who she is not very close with, and they are not very excited to see her. The main women characters in this book are damaged, they are weak at times then strong at others. Characters can also be very manipulative. The reader is drawn in as information about the case slowly is revealed. It appears to be a mystery to the police department with few clues.

The story is told through Camille. Despite her flaws the reader grows to like her somewhat. Many of the other characters are not likable, with he exception of some members of the families of the murdered girls and Richard who is assisting the local police department.

Camille's mother does not have any love for her daughters. Her much younger half sister, Amma, is mean. Amma is too grown up sometimes then is childish at others depending on who is around. Camille cannot really relate to her old friends or her stepfather who appears as a weak character. She struggles with personal issues and with reporting the murder stories. She has never properly dealt with the long ago death of her sick sister, Marian, when she was a child which has effects on her when she is back in Windy City. Also the police are not sharing the details of the investigation with her. Not wanting to disappoint the paper she works for, she tries to come up with information to write something for her assignments but has a difficult time.

The book was hard to put down even though most of the excitement is saved for the end. Gillian Flynn did not disappoint me.

Susie I enjoyed this too.

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments I liked this one a lot too, Kelly. We should read Dark Places together . . .or have you read it already?

I have not read Dark Places. Sounds like a good plan to me!

Well, let's see if next month's tag is "dark", and if it is, I vote we go for it!

If dark is the tag this one definitely fits and is my favorite of all three of Gillian Flynn's books.

Susie I'll join the Dark Places read along too. :-)

Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments I liked Dark Places and Sharp Objects better than Gone Girl. I liked this one best. Creepy and definitely a page turner!

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2594 comments I did not like Gone Girl at all, it infuriated me! Wonder if this or Dark Places is any better?

I liked Gone Girl best of the three, but I really liked all three of them, anyway.
