MC take a road trip to Chicago

Rolled 9
Spot 43
Alternate: Road Trip
Erin's Fancy
Rating: ★★★
Review: This was just an okay read. I am a sucker for falling for sibling's best friend troupe, but the main problem with the story was there was just too much sex in it. They were like rabbits and kept going and going. I wish some of the sex scenes were cut out and more scenes to develop the plot was put in.

A nice fitting end to the series. I'm glad everyone got a happy ending. Although now I'm wondering if Lizzy will be spun off into another series. Or maybe she has, I haven't looked into Willig's other books yet. I liked the relationship between Jack and Jane. It was nice to finally get to really know the Pink Carnation instead of her kind of being the puppet master behind all the other couples.

So space 51: 1st or 5th in series. Or 51st as there's probably some out there.
Alternate is: Man Protagonist shelf. Link is on post #3 of this thread and list has over 8,000 books. I can offer tips for quickly seeing if a book is on the shelf if anyone needs help.
I'm going to save my fifth in series in case it comes up again, these higher numbers are hard for me. Going with The Winter Sea, slains #1.

According to where I left the bookmark in my omnibus from last year when I tried reading this, I've read this one before. I don't remember a lick of it. I, looking back after reading the next two, still don't remember it. I'm just really grateful that the rest of the series was a lot better and a lot more interesting.

I was very close to giving this book a lower rating, I only really enjoyed the last third of the book. The ending was really worth it though, so I'm glad I pushed through! The major issue for me was the constantly switching viewpoints. This book is about an author writing a story so it switches between the view of the author and the MC of the story she is writing. I find it really hard to feel any attachment to the characters or the story line when I am constantly being ripped between the two plots. I found when I really started to enjoy the book is when the story started focusing on one character for a few chapters rather than switching every chapter.
Overall, a pretty simple historical fiction/romance. The romance was done really well, other aspects not so much. The history was kind of thrown in almost like a lecture here and there so the author could focus on other things so that kind of bugged me a bit. If you can't interweave the history than just leave it out. It just felt like reading a textbook at times...So, the rating is more accurately probably a 3.5. I will still continue with the series, but I'm not in any real hurry.

I am on the last disk of mine and have a new, very young and energetic doggy. So expect to finish tonight while walking her.

This romance novel was cute, but nothing special. I really enjoyed the setting, but didn't quite feel the chemistry between the MCs. A bit of a disappointment.

Dust of My Wings
Rating: ★★★
Review: Just an okay read. It has a good premise, and it will be interesting to read about the other women and see what they become. However, the main villain was really underdeveloped and felt very generic. The ending did seem a little too convenient. I'm really looking forward to Dante and Nadia's story though.

This book was very entertaining and a nice look at life on a ship in the 19th century. Found it a little hard to believe that an insane serial killer could spend months at a time in close quarters on a ship and no one would pick up that he was bat shit crazy. Seemed like they traveled by ship to Egypt a little too quickly but I know nothing about typical travel times back then.

5th, 9th or 59th in a series. Alternate is something on the Goodreads Choice Award 2012 shelf. The link is under the list of alternates. I can give tips for checking a specific book if any one needs it.
I'll post our roll in the other thread as soon as I get to work.

Was on space 43, rolled an 8, landed on space 51.

Hey, Mary. If you click on the genre heading, it pulls up all the nominees for that genre for 2012.

Looks like my shelving of Then Came You is wrong because this book is not in my Itunes. I put a request for it from the library but the copy is in a library on the other side of the state. Granted MA is a small state but I don't think I'll get it in time.
So off to look for something else.

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the last two. I don't know why, but the concept of an alien invasion seemed a bit overdone and predictable. That being said, I still did really enjoy the book. I liked seeing the Luxen and the Arum work together. The series was also tied up nicely with everybody being given a future, nothing was left hanging. Glad I finished this one! Now to finish the hundreds of other series on my list lol

WILD is a memoir written by Cheryl Strayed, focused around her decision to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the beginning to Oregon after having her life ripped apart.
This book was a LOT better than I was expecting it would be.
I got a copy of this free from World Book Day back in 2014, and I've tried to pick it up at least three times since then. I think what threw me originally was the fact that she splits her time between current day (or rather, the hike) and her past involving the death of her mother and her divorce. When I actually got into it a bit, the splits made more sense.
I loved the whole idea of the book, with Cheryl going off to hike the PCT on her own. I knew she would get through to the other end - because it's non fiction, and she's still alive - but it was still interesting to see what happened and how it happened. That's really rare for a memoir!
I've added another book of Strayed's to my to be read stack, but I'm not sure I ever plan on reading WILD again. It was good, but not something that I feel like I have to devour over and over again.
So glad you enjoyed that one maya! That's the book that really got me interested in memoirs because I enjoyed it so much.

I was honestly really surprised! I went into it thinking that it was going to be painful, but it really wasn't that bad at all!
You should look into Augusten Burroughs. He's who got me into memoirs, and I now own everything he's written. :)
Thanks! I've got running with scissors on my tbr, I will definitely have to move it up!

Book: Drömmar ur snö by Anna Jansson
Date:8/30/16
Pages: 287
Series: #5 in the Maria Wern series
Review: ★★★
This was a quick and easy read. I really like the main character, detective Maria Wern, of this crime series. This time, she is investigating a case where a 14 year old girl disappears on her way home and alter is found in the woods. Some of the other book from this series have been more interesting mysteries, but this was still an ok mystery.

I LOVE music bios, often even of artists I don't really listen to hear (like Willy Nelson's bio). That's not the case here as I have been an Allman Brothers fan since my childhood thanks to 2 older siblings and an older cousin. I docked it star because one of my favorite parts of music bios is hearing how they wrote their songs. Not all of them of course but at least their biggest hits or the ones they are most known for anyway. I wish there was more of that here. Unless I zoned out while listening, he barely even mentioned "Midnight Rider". He talked a lot about "Rambling Man" which was written and sung by Dickie Betts for the group not Gregg Allman. Was a little disappointed to read that "Melissa" wasn't written about someone specific but I will get over it. Also wanted to read a little more about him and Cher but I can see why he wouldn't want to necessarily dish about his famous ex.

Into the Darkness (5th in Darkness Series)
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Overall, a good addition to the series. The one problem I had with the story was how the story would switch between Rhea and Connell and Rory and Liberty. I would get involved in one story line and then switch to the other. I would have to then think about were each couple had left off. I would have preferred them as two novellas in the same book.
