R8: SS Team Super Series Slayers (3)
Anyone know if we can use audiobooks? If so, I will listen to The Drop which works for red cover. Otherwise I'll read a 3rd in a series.
Wow. This is definitely not the roll for me. I'm gonna have to do Beyond the Shadows. Third book in a series.
I don't think there's any rule about not using audiobooks :)
Of course you can use audiobooks. That's all I've used. I don't think it's a great one for me either but I haven't looked at yet. I used up a lot of 3 & 4's in the last round.
Red cover shouldn't be hard though if nothing else.

Great!
I didn't have many 3 and 4th in series either - I must have used most of them in previous rounds too.
Well I stand corrected. I'm apparently at either 3 or 4 in multiple series. Must have knocked out quite a few 1 & 2's lately.Might still go with red cover. Need to check my mood, stash and library availability.
My immediate thought was One Fell Sweep but it's not out in ebook yet and I don't like to read on the computer.
Week #4, Roll 6, space #34
Book: The Drop by Michael Connelly
Date:8/6/16
Pages: audiobook
Alternate: Red cover
Review: ★★★★
I tend to prefer listening to non-fiction over fiction, but the series about fictional police detective Harry Bosch in LA is quickly becoming one of my favorite crime series to listen to. This is the 17th book in the series, and Bosch is investigating a 20 year old murder as part of the Cold Case Homicide Unit where he is currently working. At the same time, he is requested to work on a fresh case involving the son of his nemesis Irvin Irving. I really enjoyed this book, and the narrator (Len Cariou) is excellent.
I will be done probably tomorrow.
Week 4 Completed
Roll 6
Space 34
Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Rated 4 stars
Completed: 8/9/16
How it fits: #3 in series
This book was super exciting! Crazy suspenseful, which I am learning to expect from this author. Insane cliffhanger too! Hopefully I can read the next one for next week because that is not something I can wait a long time for!
I really liked learning about Dawson, but kind of wish the book had focused a bit more on him. I hope there is more about him and Beth in the next one. I really missed Dee, with her and Katy fighting she was really not a big character in this book. I also loved how Daemon and Katy's relationship developed in this one.
One minor issue I have is Katy's supreme innocence...who over five thinks it's ok to say poo poo?? She actually said "ape poo poo"...This seriously bugged me. It pulled me out of the story because it was just so ridiculous and unrealistic for a 17 year old. Not a big thing though! Overall, a really great read.

The deadline to roll is 11:59pm on Friday so it's OK if you need some of Friday. We also have a free pass although I'd rather save that in case someone has an emergency or power outage or something since we can only use it once.
Okay. I know I'll have it done by Friday morning. Which time zone? Just so I know (in case something does come up)
That was a lot quicker than the other one...The Housewife Assassin's Handbook by Josie Brown
finished 8/10/2016
Rating : 5 stars
How it fits : Red cover
I was suprised by how much I liked this one. I picked it up randomly for a challenge because - you guessed it - it has a red cover. Of all the things!
THE HOUSEWIFE ASSASSIN'S HANDBOOK features Donna Stone, widow, mother of 3, assassin. With a lot of wit and a lot of sass. She's me, in another life, basically. Her husband was killed undercover years ago, and she took a job at the same agency to work on avenging him.
This book... caught me off guard. The action and characters were believable. The humor made me laugh at multiple points during the story. The twists were a bit predictable, but were still well-executed and thought out. I look forward to reading more of this series in the future.
Week 4: rolled a 6, on spot 34
4th in series:
8/9/2016

A nice end to this short series. I had actually completely missed all the clues in earlier books that Chase was a woman. I learned it from reading some reviews. That's a downside of audio books is that I sometimes miss things like that: subtle foretelling clues. I did get a little tired of the "I need a man with a title" and "I can't marry her because of my hard childhood" thing. I think West should have figured out who Chase really was by himself. But this was a very entertaining read. Also Caroline seemed a little mature for a 9 year old but that could have just been from the voice given her by the narrator.
I just realized that we don't have Grace's review. I'm going to message her now in case she finished and forgot to review. I have done that before.
Week 4Rolled 6
Spot 34
Hunted by Darkness by Katie Reus
(#4 in Darkness Series)
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Overall, this was a great addition to the series. I have to admit I missed the focus on the dragons, but I did enjoy catching up with Drake and Victoria. The new worlds and characters were interesting and I really want to read about Liberty and Rory.
The one problem I had with the book is really how Nyx meets Bo. Nyx showed up in book 3 working at Bo's club...and Bo at that point knows shes his mate. However, I do not remember any point reading about how they first met. I don't know if that is on me and I skipped it in previous books or it just wasn't there, but their story feels incomplete with out it.
So sorry, school starts next week and I've been going in to work to set up. I totally forgot to post my review. I'll do better next week.
No worries. We have until tonight to roll anyway. I did that a couple of times now, finished my book early and then realized a day or two later that I didn't review it here. OK off to do out review post and roll.

Maria Helena The Drop review
Maya The Housewife Assassin's Handbook review
well at least next week we'll have a good shot at a getting in the 5's or at least a higher number to go with the 4.
I think this book might qualify for "road trip" (on horses and via ship). Crossing my fingers as I want to read this last book of the series. If I see no signs of a road trip I'll switch to something else.
Kelsi wrote: "I'm going with Origin, Lux #4. So glad this role allows me to continue! :)"It's great when the rolls allow you to keep reading the same series (as long as it is a series that you enjoy).
Yes, this one was such a crazy cliffhanger so needed to read the next one right away!
I am well stocked on higher series numbers as well. I have been putting great effort into cutting down on the number of series with ongoing plot lines that I am actively reading at once. I kept losing track of those plot lines.
Finishing Never Judge A Lady and now Lure of the Moonflower puts 2 series to rest for me. Still don't know if Lure works for road trip yet.
I might have to start reading alternates for the higher numbers. I don't think I'm that far in very many series.
maybe not, we just got 3 & 4 two rolls in a row. We could end up stuck in one level for 3 rolls (hopefully I didn't just jinx us with that comment). I have a lot of high numbers: 10+ which do me no good in this challenge unless they work for an alternate.
I've listened to enough of my book to confirm that there is a road trip. On a donkey no less. I'm actually on disc 5 out of 11 already.

It's me, the one who apparently changes every week. I'm swapping to Stars Above, which is 4.5 (so 4) in the series. :)
Week #5, Roll 9, space #43
Book: Edge Of Midnight by Leslie Tentler
Date:8/13/16
Pages: 429
Series: #3 in the Chasing Evil trilogy
Review: ★★
In the third book of the Chasing Evil trilogy, the focus is on FBI agent Eric MacFarlane who is investigating a serial killer. He gets involved with Mia Hale, the most recent victim and the only one to get away alive. I thought this was an ok romantic suspense, but the story was not nearly as good as in the previous two books.

Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Ok so this was even better than the last book!! Again with the crazy cliffhanger, luckily I think the next book is the last in the series so maybe I can finish it off next week.
A lot of characters that were minor, but in the series since the beginning, were killed off in this book. We are left with a smaller cast of major characters, with the addition of a couple of new minor characters. So much that happened in this book was really unexpected and changed a lot of things...I don't want to say too much so I don't spoil anything big, but man, crazy stuff is going down! The characters are in a lot more trouble then they have ever been in, and things are set up for a final showdown. Can't wait to read it!

All of the stars.
Love love love love love.
I honestly hate anthologies. I don't really get the point of collected short fiction, and I don't enjoy it - with one exception. A collection of short stories about a world I already love. It's why I look forward to eventually getting a hold on an anthology collection of Terry Pratchett.
All that aside, this was everything I wanted and more. I didn't know that some of these stories were a thing! My favorites in this collection were The Little Android because it was lovely and totally unexpected, and Something Old, Something New because I cried literal tears. It's every fan's dream.
Seriously, if you loved The Lunar Chronicles, you NEED to pick this up.
