Book: Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti
Qualification: Realm Enforcers #1
Rating & Review: ★★★★
I am so glad Rebecca Zanetti decided to do a spin off series to her Dark Protector Series. This was a great continuation of the story and I loved seeing characters from past books pop up. I'm really hoping she decides to write books for Garett and Logan.
It was a sold start to a new story line, though it was a tad predictable...you had to know who the dealer was going to end up being. I did enjoy both the main characters. I liked how she made Alexandra a strong character but near the end I was a little annoyed with how black and white she saw the world. When you're in a make believe world with witches, vampires, demons, and shapeshifters there is going to be a lot of grey area and you're going to have to accept that the human way of law and order may not be the best.
I can't wait to continue on with the series and look forward to updates from past characters.

That's good to hear. I'm really looking forward to Simone's book.

That happened to me with an audiobook yesterday too! Such a pain!

This was just ok for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Parts were funny. I frequently found the heroine annoying. I also found it odd that everyone would just believe he was a Russian Prince without ever questioning anything. Lilac was also very annoying at times. The end was kind of anti-climatic. But it was an entertaining audio book and since book 3 already came from the library, I will at least listen to that one. I wasn't expecting any deep with these books anyway.

Series: #1 in the D.I. Kim Stone series
Review: ★★★
This is the first book in a British crime series about D.I. Kim Stone. She is investigating a series of gruesome murders spanning several decades. This book started a bit slow, but picked up towards the end with a great conclusion. I will definitely read more from the series.

Since we will end up on something with either a one or a two, I'll bring two books I can start this weekend. I'll definitely have a book done before next Friday.

I was honestly really happy with this one. It's your basic teenaged story of two broken people coming together to be happy, but it still had something a little extra that's hard to explain. There wasn't enough behind the story to give it 5 stars, but there was enough originality to keep it from the 3-Star-Teen-Zone

Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews

This book was pretty awesome. I found the characters hilarious, to the point where I laughed out loud on multiple occasions (I'm sure if anyone saw me, they would think I was nuts!) I felt like the world and the creatures were completely original. The basic premise is that paranormal creatures including werewolves, vampires, and others I had never heard of, come from different planets in the universe. When they come to Earth, which is basically neutral ground, they stay in an inn, protected by innkeepers. The innkeeper knows about all of the creatures and planets in the universe and is given special powers connected to the inn, in exchange for protecting her guests from all dangers. This is different from anything I have ever read before and held my attention right up to the end. I loved Kate Daniels too (I have only read the first one), and am really glad that I decided to start another Ilona Andrews series. I think she is fast becoming a favorite author!

I love this series. This was not my favorite although it was very entertaining. It was a quick and easy read but I felt like there was something missing magic-wise. Lily didn't even seem to do much magic in this one. It almost felt like a filler book to keep the fans happy while she worked on a better story line.

Review: I really struggled with this book. I was willing to overlook the silly premise of how Darcy and Chase met and to be honest I've read worse. However I just could not get over how horrible both the characters were.
Darcy was just too much of a Pollyanna and it became annoying. She should have tried harder to tell him who she really was. Also, I could not get over how she described her career. I did not mind that she was a house sitter to a socialite, it was the whole writing a screen play thing I hated. Plus, it seemed like she never actually spent any time writing. House sitting does not prevent one from writing, just bring your lap top with you.
Chase was basically an asshole and I did not see any redeeming qualities. I never really got over the fact that he took Darcy home the first night when she was drunk off her feet and was going to sleep with her. It felt a little creepy, especially because he was sober. He did not really improve much. I get he was mad about being deceived, but he did not go in with these pure intentions. The only reason he talks to Darcy is because he thinks she's Lydia, a rich socialite. And then he continues to see her because Lydia's grandfather calls him up and says if you date my granddaughter I'll help you get on the Yankees. He was using her to further his career.
If the two leads were better written, this could have been a better book. I'm not quite sure I'm going to check out anything else by Katie Rose, but it won't be the other books in this series.

I better see if I have a 2nd in a series handy. I know I have some 1's although hoping we'll be out of the teens tomorrow. Having a 2nd on hand is a safe bet.

Another fantastic Kate Daniels read! I just love her character. So much strength and snark rolled into a tough chick package! She makes me laugh even when everything is falling apart. I enjoyed the new characters in this one and liked learning more about the world. Also, I seriously cannot get enough of Curran! Can't wait to read the next installment.

I'm back and have started my book. I'm reading The Last Mile (#2 in series) and I will definitely have it finished on time :-)

Haunting Blackie by Laurann Dohner
#8 in Cyborg Seduction Series

Rating ★★★
Review:
I did not enjoy this one has much of the rest of the series. It felt a little too different and I had two main issues with the book.
1. The whole canine unit plot. The addition of the canine units was not the real problem. It's Sci-Fi and we're dealing with cyborgs so I'm okay with adding different sub species. However, I thought having them play a role in the cyborg escape was ridiculous. It's book 8, we've already met several key players in their escape from earth in earlier books and to suddenly add on the canine units as an important role made no sense. It was basically rewriting the past to add new characters. She should have just added them in and not had them play a role in the rescue.
2. Eve and Blackie's insta love. I love a good insta love book, but this one was lacking. I didn't really buy the whole ten minutes together in the past and then in the present they're ready to declare their undying love within hours of finding each other again. There was not development or tension between them. I actually was enjoying Danica and Gene more than the main characters.

Book: The Last Mile by David Baldacci
Date:8/3/16

Series: #2 in the Amos Decker series
Review: ★★★
I really enjoyed the first book in this series (Memory Man) which I read earlier this year, and I have waited to get the sequel from the library since then. This one, however, didn't quite live up to the expectations. The case investigated was not as interesting as in the first book, and it felt a bit drawn out. It was ok, but not great.

I was extremely happy with the first book in the series, and so was a little worried if I would continue to like the series.
It started off on a really good foot when I found this for 10 cents at my local used bookstore. SCORE!
I loved the fact that the story continued straight off from the first book in the series. Tal and Milla continue their journey to get a Sunstone - well, two of them. And the ending? THAT IS THE EPITOME OF A CLIFFHANGER. HOW DARE YOU GARTH. MY FAITH WAS PLACED IN YOU.
Regardless, this was an excellent novel and I couldn't find something wrong with it if I tried.

Pretty safe bet that we'll be in the 30's next week.
I'm glad we already earned our one time Free Pass, if we hadn't than I'd stay up late to finish. But since we can only earn one, I'm going to listen to a bit more and finish tomorrow. I have about 90 minutes left. Also go in later and work alone on Fridays. Very conducive to audiobook listening.

Still loving this series. This one wasn't as spicy as some of the others for the first 3/4's of the book. But that fit with the story of Andi having taking a vow of celibacy. Nassar saying "rut" was cute at first and then got a bit annoying. Some people seem to think Nassar was a little childish but I saw it as the feline in him. Feline's are playful so it made sense to me that Nassar would also be playful and not all serious warrior. In one of the review I read I got the hint that there may only be one book left and I see that the focus on the next book is going to be back on Elena. Not thrilled with her possibly pairing off Illium an Aodhan. Feels a little too much like she's jumping on the the MM bandwagon before it gets away. But I say that someone who doesn't read MM romances. I think I must be the last holdout on those but it's just not my thing.
