Review:
Meh. I really don't know what's going on. Michael is a singer and he gets the opportunity to record music in Dallas. There's only one problem, no one is allowed to leave Morganville once they become aware of the vampires. However, Amelie gives them permission to go as long as Oliver goes also.
Of course, chaos ensues once they leave town. They discover another vampire town and realize that there are worse things outside of Morganville. It doesn't make them like Morganville better but it puts things in perspective. They get some unexpected help along the way and everything is resolved. Michael can record in Dallas, but they must return immediately for reasons Amelie doesn't disclose.
It kind of bothers me that serious events from other books don't really get mentioned again. It's like each book is just an episode and there isn't really any continuity.
I thought this quote was funny:
"Back in the bedroom, Claire almost shut her suitcase, then stopped and frowned. 'What did you take?' she asked. 'For, you know, protection?'
Shane lifted himself up on his elbows. 'What, like, uh, protection?'
'No!' She felt her face flush, which was pretty ridiculous, considering what they'd done this morning. 'I mean against any vampire things that might happen. You know'."
*snort*

Ok, I'm a nerd girl. I play WoW. I watch Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly and Dr. Who. A book written about a gamer set in a future world filled with pop culture references from the 80s and 90s is right up my alley. Then, they give the job of narrator to Wil Weaton and it's all over.
Wil Weaton telling me a story for 16-ish hours. (ok, less, I listen at 2x the speed typically).
Oh, hey fangirl..
So, about the book, I loved it. Right from the start. I chuckled at a lot of the references. I loved the Monty Python scene. The War Games scene. Galaga. All of it.
I thought the characters were great and somewhat surprising at times. The story moved along at a decent pace for the majority of the book, although there were times when I wanted to yell at them to shut up already and move along - especially at the end of the book when time was a factor.
In short, this book is a bit of a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory set in a slightly futuristic gaming world with references to warm the retro-loving 80's heart. And Python.

I picked up this cozy mystery series a week or so ago because the entire set of 15 was on sale for 99 cents. What a steal! I'm new to the whole cozy mystery thing, but anything that's that cheap is worth the download!
I really enjoyed this book. Kate is the handywoman in a small town in Pennsylvania, and she discovers a dead body at the site of one of her jobs. It wasn't overly dramatic or suspenseful, but I didn't see the who-dun-it coming. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my steal from last week and hopefully will enjoy the rest of it!

Also, I'm going to look into that cozy series, Maya. Looks interesting. I probably read too many cozies.

They're really good! I was really happy with them. And they're on sale again, 99 cents for 15!

Quick review so I can go to bed and get some sleep since I have to be up at 7am tomorrow, but I didn't want anyone to be waiting on me to roll. I'll be at the football game all day so I know I won't be able to post anytime soon otherwise.
This was absolutely wonderful and a great return to the earlier style of books in the series. Amazing political intrigue all tied up in magic and mayhem. The magical plot in this story was incredibly creepy and disturbing. I really loved seeing Alec and Seregil up to their old tricks sneaking around the many different areas of Rhiminee as themselves as often as they were in disguise. There are no two better night runners anywhere.
All in all a really fantastic read and a great story.
