Keri Sparks Sooooo, I'm jumping out here on something I told myself I wouldn't do due to writing my own stories, but I am seriously interested in being a proofreader for your book. I have discovered I enjoy editing almost more than writing.
I should have no problem getting it done in two or less months.
I'm not a professional by any means but I do believe I have a good grasp on grammar and such. What I don't know, I look up online, and I have books to help me on editing as well.

Also, I don't charge except to cover the cost of printing out the manuscript. I read more thoroughly and catch more errors when I can read it on paper. The screens of computers bothers my eyes too much.
Let me know if you are interested. =)

J.M. Rankin (jmrankin) | 64 comments Hi Clair,

I am a fully qualified copy-editor and proofreader, with over eight years experience working freelance for both authors and publishers alike on a variety of genres, and work regularly with a publisher who specialises in fantasy and paranormal fiction, so I have plenty of experience with this genre.

I offer a 1500 word free sample, so that you are able to see how I would work with your manuscript, and which allows me to assess the level of input your work needs.

I work in MS Word using Track Changes so you are able to see everything I do, and I will never change anything other than grammar, punctuation and spelling. If I come across anything that needs attention (sentence flow, for example), I will leave a comment. I will never rewrite anything within the body of the text, as this is your voice and book, not mine - no editor/proofreader should do this.

All my transactions are done through Paypal so they are 100% secure, and I am happy to work my fees to whatever way is doable for the author (instalments, chapter by chapter, etc), so please feel free to discuss this with me and I will help in any way I can.

Please feel free to contact me via Goodreads, my direct email whitediamondedits[at]gmail.com, or through my website www.whitediamondedits.wordpress.com, where you will be able to view testimonials from other authors I have worked with as well as my experience.

Best wishes
Jacqui

Carol Tietsworth | 203 comments Dear Clair:

My name is Carol Tietsworth, and I am a professionally trained proofreader and an experienced copy-editor. I do it on the side from my full-time job as a litigation paralegal. I read 20 books a week, at least, for me, 2 a week for a review blog, and I also copy-edit for two publishing houses.
It sounds like you need an editor instead of only a proofreader. I keep my fees low to help more people, I sincerely think that no book should go unedited to the publisher. I charge .004/word for copy-editing, or $40.00 per 10,000 words, and .003/word for proofreading, or $30.00 for 10,000 words, in your case maybe we could split the difference. I normally do the first 500 words as a free sample, to see if we can work together. 155,000 words @ .004/word is $620.00, @.003/word is $465.00 split is $542.50.
After the sample if you hire me, I require half the fee up front and half after I finish. I would also read over it after it is corrected. I tend to recommend different words to clarify, these recommendations I put in parentheses, for your perusal. Let me know, legal2b@yahoo.com

Clare | 10 comments Hi Clair (great name BTW),

Your novel sounds very intriguing. Congratulations on getting to this stage in the writing process. Writing a novel is such a huge undertaking. High five to you.

I would be very interested in editing your novel for you. I am able to work with your deadline nicely, as I have just finished a project which has left me some time in my schedule.

I LOVE to fix grammar issues. We do not want the little mistakes taking away from the impact of your words.

I offer extremely affordable rates. I do understand the financial limitations that independent authors face. Please email me at clareflockton@me.com, and I can send you a personal quote. You will agree it is more than fair.

I hope we get to work together.

Clare Flockton
