the dhampir has a friend whos good at using magic.

Is it The vampire academy by richelle mead? The series is about a young dhampir and her friend who is a vampire and uses magic? This a series and there is a sequel series with two characters that appear in the first series. Then dhampir by barb jchendee is another possibility that comes to mind but that doesnt fit as well as richelle meads books. But dont forget to add what genre is it, what time period did you read it, if its Ya or mg, if it an audiobook or did u read it in print etc even describing the color as well as much as you can remember is helpful. :)

The first thing that popped into my head were the Karen Chance books also.

The Dorina Basarab series is about a Dhampir, Dory. She is the daughter of Mircea Basarab.

In the Cassandra Palmer series, Cassie sees ghosts and is involved with Mircea.
