Bernie and Chet have a couple of cases, one that starts like it will be the important case but ends up the background. The other case starts as a simple trip to the circus with Bernie's son Charlie. Turns out that the elephant has been kidnapped and the trainer is missing. The trainer's best friend, Popo the Clown, hires Bernie to find Peanut and Uri. Everyone thinks that Uri has joined some animal rights advocates and he has released Peanut from captivity - but where do you hide an elephant? Popo doesn't believe that's true.

For some reason I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have the others but it is very likely that's because it's taken me too long to read this light book - I kept putting it down to read something else. That will take the pleasure out of most books.

I haven't given up on Bernie and Chet - I still love the series. The story is told from Chet's point of view and that is so unique because Chet the Jet (a dog in case you didn't know) has a bit of ADHD and doesn't always understand human conversation. He's pretty astute though, and his observations can be laugh out loud funny.

Karin | 9225 comments They aren't all equally funny, but they are definitely better if you read them in longer stretches. I'm nearly finished A Fistful of Collars; my son finished it last night (we've both been reading it). I usually like them at 3 stars, but they are fun. He likes them better.
