Saar The Book owl | 3096 comments I hope it's just a cold, Iain, how are you feeling?

Thanks everyone for the kind messages. I'm starting to feel better now. I was really sick for 4 days with fever, muscles aches, headache, my legs felt weird and walking was just painful...I pretty much couldn't do a thing. Even reading didn't work. Now, I feel better, still having an annoying cough and still very tired. Some food/coffee taste weird too.

It's been a variety of symptoms, mostly mild...

Sometimes, I can't tell if symptoms are covid/cold related, or just normal aches and pains... I have a fair bit of arthritis in fingers and knees from joint popping and damage does jogging on uneven surfaces at my weight... and it IS that cold time of year...

My sore throat / cough comes and goes, had a bit of congestion, mild fever early on, used my massager alot on my back, but I think some it was just from laying about so much while not feeling great...

Hopefully I'm getting better... I KNOW what I had in 2020 was like 10x worse... I still have vague memories of THAT fun...

Some of my weakness has been undereating, I think... half the time I've only ate one meal a day... trying to fix that today...

Yeah, it these days, even a mild cold sets panic alarms everywhere and getting older does not help.

I remember being 20, spending all winter in t-shirts and a light jacket and not being sick. Now someone sneezes in my street and i get a cold......without leaving the house

I hate the new book page layout... clearly designed to optimize space for mobile and fill empty space on PC, one size fits all...

Tammie made me aware of the change a week or 2 ago... I've tried to adjust, but I hate it...

I finally went ahead and wrote a long-winded feedback thing in their feedback page about all the things I hate about it, and how they moved the information I could see at a glance so far away, and enlarged all the things I don't care about (book image, shelf names, recommendations), and hid all the text I cared about behind MORE buttons after like 2-3 lines of text... (now that the popup is gone, the only way to find the feedback link is from the Help Page about the new book page)

It's truly annoying. Now I feel like I have to click 5 things just to get to the editions page. Also the reviews are so low down while the fact that I'm "currently reading" is apparently important enough that it takes up a ton of space.

"What do YOU Think?" and 5 enormous stars to rate takes up half a page now... seriously?

I hate it as well; a friend posted a review of the second book in a series recently. I clicked on the book to see what the first book was called (with an eye to adding it to my TBR) and couldn't because it took me to the stupid 'new book' page; the old page was/is much better.

I gave feedback, but doubt they'll listen... GR staff doesn't care... I swear they're trying to kill the site...

message 4863: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Oh same. My first reaction was to try to zoom out the actually SEE anything! All the white space, oversized pictures, and forcing you to click to see what used to be at a glance! Burying elements down at the bottom of the page instead of in the sidebar. I hate it.

All the extra clicking is so annoying. I used to just scroll down to see everything I wanted to see. Also the tags like the apps have, I hate them! And I can't click and give something a star rating the way used to.

Since they are owned by Amazon now, no they don't, and I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to kill it so we all have to use Amazon for everything.

I liked the smaller book cover photos that I could click on and make bigger if I wanted. Now they are stuck a size in between.

Every time I look at the book page, I find a new thing to not like... just noticed the old Q&As are now buried at the bottom, too, with discussions and quotes (which are also now hidden on a secondary page)...

message 4868: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2198 comments They've also sent out an email to say they're removing the favourite authors list from our profile pages from 1st September. I wonder why that is, they've given no rationale for it at all... it doesn't make any sense. And it's a shame cos it's quite a nice little thing to check out when you add a friend.

Has anyone looked at a review with spoilers, on the new book page?... I just realized they implemented a new spoiler system that shows the spoiler text, but makes spoilers super blurry instead of hiding them completely (you can almost read it, if you try hard enough)... this makes it clear how big of a spoiler is being hidden, instead of just collapsing and expanding... that might be the first interesting thing I've found in the new layout...

message 4872: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2198 comments So I watched King Arthur: Legend of the Sword last night (Guy Ritchie film), and one thing that was bugging me, is that they were pronouncing "Mage" as in cage with a M. Whereas, I've always assumed that it's the same as badge with a M. How does everyone else say it?

Pronounced like cage, along the same lines as Sage.
Never heard it any other way.

you mean sage isn't pronounced sadge? ;) (if clueless, that's one of the ways people say sad, these days, in meme/game/etc chats)

Adding a second format was slightly more muddled up. It does feel like what took you a couple clicks now takes 5 more!

Notifications are broken... I generally check, these days, if it's been more than 4-8hrs without a new notification... and I'm glad I do, when I'm right...

At least I'm well versed at checking for unread discussions with the discussion button, when needed these days, too...

If you're not logged into goodreads, the book pages use the old layout... WHY would they punish us users like that?

count yourself lucky...

The book is alot bigger, and follows you down the page... alot of useful info is hidden in collapsed sections... the Q&As and Discussions are all at the bottom, and you can't even preview without another page load... it's pretty shitty in general...
