I wonder if someone on your friend list likes it, it might pop up on their friends feeds as their activity. I have my feed set to book updates only from top friends, but before that I used to get all sorts of random stuff show up.

message 4552: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2198 comments @Siobhan, but that's the thing, none of my friends liked it or have liked the previous ones and still these randoms seem to see it somehow. It's just strange. And they all tend to be people who haven't read that many books (or similar books), aren't in any groups or have any friends... Weird.

message 4553: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments That's really weird! People must just spend time stalking random people's pages and liking stuff?! 😂

message 4554: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2198 comments Looks like it! Because I can't think how else they're doing it! Lol

I think it's something programmer related... there are definitely bots floating around here, trying to get you to go to sketchy website for "free books" or whatever...

On the topic of this specifically, maybe they scrape the front page feed... there's got to be some way to do it... when you're not logged in, or don't have any friends yet, it just shows you the most recent reviews, I think, in the newsfeed... or they just go friendhopping, clicking the first 8 people on friend lists, or something...

message 4556: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2198 comments Yeah, I did think it could be bots/trolls...

when you're not logged in, or don't have any friends yet, it just shows you the most recent reviews, I think, in the newsfeed...

I swear mine was just blank before I added people..

or they just go friendhopping

Possibly

Maybe they don't do that anymore... I joined the site 7 years ago, and have had friends for 5, now...

I have the same issue. I already posted it somewhere here a while ago.
It's usually when I update a book as want to read or currently reading.
When I look at the profiles, they usually have no friends and very few books, but a link to a website. And they have usually liked a bunch of updates from other users as well.
I thought it might be bots, too. They're probably just liking updates from random people they see on the front page (I believe if you don't change the settings you just get random stuff shown) to get them to click on their website...
Really annoying....

Hi Pals

Can anyone recommend an uplifting, easy fantasy read? Life has just been, well.. not compatible with reading but now that its fall, I'd love to take the time to relax with a book again.

Miss you all

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments Hang in there Margret!

Anything by Becky Chambers is at the top of my list for feel goods! That or break out the Terry Pratchett (which I am considering doing all of Discworld next year).

message 4563: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Definitely Becky Chambers and Pratchett, both are so feel good.

Thanks friends.

Very painful to talk about, but my short term memory has not been good for a long time so reading has been difficult for me. I’ve been doing brain exercises to help so I’m hopeful to gain back some normalcy... but I used to read 100+ books a year and get frustrated sometimes

message 4566: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments I can imagine how frustrating that must be for you. I hope the exercises help. *Hug*

Oh man, that would be so frustrating Margret. I'm sorry you are having to deal with that.

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments Hello Margaret,

Im so sorry that its affecting your reading. I actually know how that is, bc I take a medication (for 10 yrs now) that started to affect my short term memory about 4 years ago, Id say. Reading and recalling series is difficult. Even recalling books I’ve read recently is so hard without hints!

Its rough. All ive done is try not to start new series until I finish older ones!

message 4569: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments I also hope the exercise helps, lots of strength to you Margret! :)

Maybe the Murderbot Diaries, they are also rather short, so a perfect quick and easy start :)

message 4575: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Notifications are broken again. That also means I'll have to keep an eye on my "Completed Books" on GR because that can also be messed up when they're doing some sort of update.

I highly suggest to read the reviews, they are gold!

This book has been making the rounds in some of the romance groups im in on FB, most people think it's hilarious and ridiculous but a few people genuinely loved it.

Now I read a lot of romance so I try not to judge, but this makes me fear for humanity! 😂

I read some of the reviews here on GR and one lady put some excerpts from it in her review. I'm not sure how anyone could love that, 😂.

And I get the person was trying to make some money from having lost their job, but why not write an actual story? Take some classes? Find other hobbies/interests they're good at, take some online classes and develop a way to earn money out of that??! ANYTHING but this monstrosity!
