I do that some years more than others... I can't re-read things every year... I mostly reserve it for burnout and when nothing is catching my eye...
In 2017 I did 40-50 rereads out of 190 books, I think... in 2018 I probably did even more, while reading 356 books, since I re-read most Sanderson and Ilona Andrews and InCryptid and maybe a couple others... I'm thinking about doing an October Daye reread soon...

I was considering an IA re-read too, I just love everything they write.
Again, long series re-reads are my problem. So far this year I've re-read both of Patricia Briggs UF series and and I've started re-reading the Hollows by Kim Harrison. I'm currently re-reading Throne of Glass and that has 7 books.
I was talking to Siobhan the other day about doing a Kelley Armstrong, Women of the Otherworld re-read but again, the series is huge so decided against it. I think I need to try and limit myself to 10% re-reads going forward, ignoring things I've already planned as it's getting out of hand. I'll never find anything new to love If I keep re-reading.
That being said, I really really really want to re-read the Red Rising trilogy. I have 0 self control.

It's been a journey but my results have been confirmed and I will be graduating from my university with a 2:1 in Film and Television studies
Graduation is in 3 weeks and I'm really looking forward to it but yeah its been an amazing 3 years and I hope to put my skills to use hahaha

Will you be making the next Handmaid's Tale or Game of Thrones?
If you could bring an adaptation of ANY book to TV/film, what would it be?

Not for a while to be honest with you but here’s hoping
That is a difficult question if I could I would really like to bring Sandersons work into a movie as the final empire is a brilliant book and extremely badass
I’ve also envisioned the prologue of way of kings as a short film that I hope to make it into but I know that is gonna take a lot of time money and connections so here’s hoping
Right now filmmaking isn’t my priority but I hope to make something one day. I’m even considering some YouTube videos just so I’m using the stuff I learned for good use but we will see how it goes

Congrats!

I may also look at smaller production roles and see if anyone needs a pair of hands and get some experience
But I don’t think I’ll be making anything this year as my focusses will be mostly on finding a job and get some income and hopefully build on it until I can make short films to build some bridges
Despite saying that it ain’t gonna be easy and I am slightly annoyed I won’t be able to do what I want right now but I gotta set my priorities and right now it’s employment
But who knows what will happen in the future

Apparently, its the hottest day of the UK and they weren't kidding, it feels like Pakistan all over again :) :) :)
But other than that how is everyone finding there weekend?

We had 44 °C this weekend and I spend the whole time outside in the sun. We have a big pasture where we make hay every year, the weather have to be good of course, but I don't think it ever was as hot as this year... We're finally done now and I don't want to do anything but lying on the couch 😅
Here's the upper half of the pasture:

That's awesome! I hope you're not burnt, though 😅
It's 36°C here at the moment but it feels like 40.
I'm dreading tomorrow...I work on the southern side of the 10th floor at the moment (without AC) and it's basically a sauna...😤

Wow. That's a ton of work :) Hope you can stay in the shade and relax the rest of the day.

But that’s cool very cool
My family took us all to Bolton abbey and I’m sitting in small tea cottage reading a book
It’s a pleasant village actually

Got to meet Nichelle Nichols, Sean Astin and Austin St John (the original Red Power Ranger, because I'm still 7 years old at heart apparently). I was soooo excited and it was awesome.
Plus I was able to get my copy of Rogue Squadron signed by Michael A. Stackpole himself! He loved that my copy had obviously been read more than once.
And I got my copy of Kenobi signed by John Jackson Miller.
And got to meet Carole Barrowman and picked up a copy of Conjuror that she signed for me. The con wasn't all that busy early on in the day, so they were taking plenty time talking with anyone who wanted to talk to them or have stuff signed. It was sooo cool.
Not a bad Saturday!

Never been one to go to a con never really been my thing with all the costumes and whatnot but yeah it sounds like you had a brilliant time

It was really cool! And it was soooo neat that they were willing to take time to talk to people. This was one of the smaller cons, so it was nowhere near as crowded as the previous one I went to. It meant that they had more time to spend with each person.
This was the first year I have ever gone to any, and I've gone to two. Good thing about living just about halfway between two cities- I can go to stuff in either one!
I didn't do a costume, but I did wear a Star Wars shirt for this one. When I went to C2E2 in March, I wore a different fandom shirt each of the three days. I'll be better prepared next year and there will be costumes.
But it's not everyone's thing and that's totally cool.

With the manuscript complete, there will now be revisions, rewrites and edits before the book can be published. Due to this, I suspect we will not see the book before 2020. This is still great news, and Lynch gets bragging rights for being the first of the "Unholy Trifecta" of long-delayed fantasy novels (along with Patrick Rothfuss's Doors of Stone and George R.R. Martin's The Winds of Winter) to get to print.
Take it for what it's worth. I'm sure the revisions will take another couple of years at his pace.

That shows movement though. Progress :)

It's just good to know he's working on it! Definitely progress :)

Pity about Martin and Rothfuss. I think we will eventually get Winds of Winter but I'm not sure we will ever see the third Kingkiller book. Rothfuss actively seems to hate his fanbase!

I'm not a fan of Jim Butcher's books but I am curious to know what happened to slow him down in his writing? He used to spit out a new book every year! I had no idea he had not written a new Dresden book since 2014.

He says he moved and was living in a place that was not conducive to writing. He also had gotten a divorce and then later started dating, got engaged, remarried, and moved again. So it seems like it was a tumultuous personal life that caused some of it.

Thanks for sharing that. It does make sense that a lot of personal upheaval managed to derail him. I think the thing people tend to forget is that the super successful authors like Butcher, Martin, and probably even Rothfuss have made so much money already that working on new books is more of a choice on their part rather than a job they do out of necessity.

I found both The Lies of Locke Lamora and The Name of the Wind the years they got released but I've never regretted that fact even if waiting sooooo long for new books in the series has been a bit frustrating because they remain two of my all time favourite books. Even if we never get a series finale to stuff like Kingkiller, Game of Thrones, or Gentlemen Bastards I'm still glad I read the books as they raised my expectations of what to expect from the very best fantasy books in the genre:)

I have officially graduated from Leeds trinity university with a 2:1 in film and television studies
Official photos will be a while but here is some stuff I got on the day

I wanna thank you all for keeping me company for the past 3 years and help me use my train journeys really well as I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed not speaking to everyone here.
I think this group was definitely one of the highlights in the last 3 years and I hope to keep this up for a bit longer

Yay, official congrats, Ahdam!
And glad the group has worked well for you.

Think of all the reading you could have gotten done if you weren't talking to us on all your train journeys... 😂

Now I know your full name I'm one step into becoming a stalker, Anni would definitely be proud of me :) :) :) :)

Your profile came up as private when I followed the link, and I wanted to see your graduation pics! :)
I stalk Anni on FB but not Insta, you're special there. XD

I need to sort out my official photos since they look sick but yeah that’s it for university
I actually didn’t realise since I’m on my phone and the only persons last name I’ve seen here was Margaret’s so now I know and my stalking shall continue.......(vomit)

Congrats Ahdam!
I've been complaining about the Audible app for years, and the last time I tried their speedup options, they were choppy...
But I just updated the app, and tried a book I'd downloaded THROUGH the app, and it sounded fine... maybe the problem was trying to speedup books funneled through my PC download manager and itunes transfer...
I'm glad everything worked out, because the whole reason I tried this is because I signed up for a 3 month discount of Audible Escape (the rebranded romance package) because I wanted to continue with the Graveyard Queen series and the romance package was the cheapest way for me to get a hold of the 2nd book... Hoopla has the later books...
If anyone else is interested in trying the package, it's $3 for a 3 month trial right now, before defaulting to the normal $7 pricetag for subscribers and $13 for non-subscribers (to the 1-2 credit per month 12/24 credit per year system)
EDIT: I went on a ramble, and left out the part where books received through Audible Escape can only be downloaded through the mobile app and not the download manager, that way audible can delete if you unsubscribe...

answer:
I think it should always be a choice (preferably with free books + patreon, if you're really low on cash). I've generally found that authors who are in it for the money tent to write shit.

Time to catch up for the lost time.

I wish we had packages here in the UK! We can buy 1 or 2 credits a month for £8.99 each and that's it. After that we have to go back to the £24 average per ebook. I'd be thrilled to pay a set fee each month and get unlimited books.
