Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments Just want to say that today really sucked you guys. We had to put down one of our cats today. Her name was Ellie, she was almost 21 years old. Breaks my heart, I'm really going to miss the old girl. When I was a kid I didn't have a dog wait for me to get off the bus, I had her. She was an amazing cat.

I'm so sorry Elizabeth! That's such a difficult thing to have to do. I have three cats. I know I will be heartbroken when they are gone.

It's not that bad haha. The government always ends up owing me a little, so I don't mind dealing with it to get my money back.

I use Freefile Fillable Forms... the main option linked on the IRS website... no frills filinf option... don't want to pay for software... unsure how the free version of TurboTax works with the form changes... the free version used to only work with 1040A and EZ... and those no longer exist...

@Ahdam: it's not as hard as it sounds... it's pretty simple for most people just reporting income and taxes... the people that make enough money to start taking heavy advantage of the complicated stuff are generally the kind of people with accountants to do the heavy lifting FOR them...

I used the free version of a Turbo Tax to file my daughter’s taxes, and have since she was sixteen (5 years). If the fillable forms from the IRS work for you, cool.

I think the GR algorithm probably just detected the 40 reviews that are longer than 50 characters regardless of the date...still weird 🤨

My 6 year old shoved a small Lego up his nose yesterday. I was at work, my hubby could't even see it because it was jammed so far up there. But by the time they got to the ER they could see some of it so the triage nurse just got up in there with some tweezers... sigh

I expected this from my daughter... those who know me a little better will understand why, but not my stinkin' 6 yo!!

Oh wow!!! That's a big update right there.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Any concrete post-grad plans yet?

message 3838: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Not really

I’m not gonna do a masters since I had enough of education

But right now my plan is to find a job that will pay as I am in need of some income

Then I hope to find work most likely contract in a production company in places like bbc, itv or channel 4 which is coming to the city soon so I’ll be keeping an eye on that

I wanna find work on the set and be there to make stuff but here’s hoping because I really want to build up connections to make my own films and I’m looking into making a YouTube channel looking at film and books and all that

I’m also delving into writing a novel which is probably not gonna lead anywhere but it’s something I wanna do haha

I think an aspiration I want to work to is I want to have my own production company to create what I want because I’ve learned a lot in my 3 years and I hope to put it in place

It’s all rough and it’s gonna be hard but here’s hoping all the best and I can do what I can with what I’ve got

idiffer | 765 comments The only update worth talking about on my side is that I started making some extra cash in a new way. I think it's called dogsitting - ppl bring their animals to stay at my place when the owners are going out of town.
The money is good, but the risks are pretty big. My rug has a bitten off corner + I lost three books to a puppy's teeth (they were worthless though).

Heeeyyyyyy!

I'm doing great! Happy everyday to no longer be in grad school.

I started a new fellowship in Chicago and the workload has been heavy. So between work, reading, and adulting I haven't had much time. I think I've gotten things under control for now though.

Good luck with that Yanique and thanks for the wishes it's gonna be difficult but now that things have died down I can focus on reading once again and I've just read 3 books this week surprisingly well one of them was a graphic novel but yeah

Hope to see you get back into it as well

I like cats more too. And I am offering to catsit also, but I just didn't have clients who want that. Had only two clients, and both had dogs.
Btw, after the puppy who bit stuff in my flat, I'm not taking ANY puppies anymore. The one I had "did his business" (forgot all the nice synonyms) on my carpet and not outside.
Other than that, the dogs are pretty fun.

@Yani

3 books. Wow, wish I'd find three books that I wanted to read somewhere. Sad but true.
Middlegame by Seanon Mcguire was the only 4-star read since forever.
Tried to look up "fellowship". Still kinda not sure what it is. Do they pay you?

That's just my position as a young research scientist with a PhD. It's one of the ways academic institutions hire faculty and staff. It's similar to when MDs do a fellowship after getting their degree so they can specialize in an area of medicine. So I work in the lab of a principal scientist who is also my mentor.
So yes, I get paid.
