One of my former coworkers was a pick up artist (has a blog about it and everything). He tried to get with every single woman in our office when she first started. He tried to be the guide for every woman who started so they felt comfortable with him and felt they relied on him. Everyone saw past it though and thought he was super creepy...he eventually got fired.

The number of times "she" said MS Office 2019 was just hilarious to me...

The weather be crazy...

US is in the middle of that Polar Vortex at the moment... warnings of Wind Chills as low as -30 to -45F

But I was just looking at the forecast, and the weather will be in the +50s by the weekend... I guess warm currents are going to flow into the area following this cold front...

Yup... it's here:

-15°F
Sunny
Feels Like -38°F

weather channel is dupping it the coldest arctic outbreak in a generation... but it's really not that much worse than the polar vortexes we've had the last couple years... dropped to -20-30 those times...

EDIT: Just watched the new video... didn't realize Chicage and Minnesota were getting temps below -50 after windchill... altho I guess I should have...

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5357 comments I just called my parents to check on them and they lost heat! I'm freaking out for them. It's currently 56 degreed inside their house and my dad is trying to fix it himself. I told them that if he can't get it started again they need to go to my brother's house. My mom is like "We'll be fine. It's only 56 degrees in here." Yeah, but it's -15 outside. It's going to keep dropping inside if you can't get the heat working. They turned on a space heater for now. I'll keep checking on them.

I think my heater is straining under the pressure... the warm air barely feels warm... part of it is how low I keep my thermostat, but the rest is probably the age of the Heater and how cold it is outside... maintenance was talking about replacing the whole unit this year, or maybe for the whole apartment building, when they were out fixing the drainpipe last summer...

Only good thing about all this, is it gave me the impetus to go around and reapply insulating tape to windows anywhere there was a bit of leaky cold air...

If your parents are staying in their house, they should probably do as much as possible to ensure cold air isn't getting in... tape/insulation/towels along areas where cold air might get in... close doors to rooms with windows, to keep the heat in windowless rooms... etc...

Hopefully getting the heater working again doesn't take too long... the colder the house gets, the more strain it's going to be on the heater to get the temp back up again... similar to how they tell people not to turn their ACs off in the summer...

That's the case on my rental house. I called the tenant and she says the temp in the house is much lower than what it's set to. The old furnace just can't keep up with the cold. At least it's working though (knock on wood)

some northern states were -50-60F... 5 minutes of exposure causes permanent damage at those temps...

I just pulled up the calculator, and -38F = -38C

-50F= -45C

I reread it a few years ago, but I think you may be right... I was thinking of the character who first met Lucy.

The first character Lucy met in Narnia was Mr. Tumnus the Faun.

Same with looking back at my previous prose. I think my one chapter was horrible, I couldn't even get some grammar right, which is weird for me. ALTHOUGH, looking back at my poems, written 5-8 years ago... I don't care what anyone says, I think they are awesome. Well, most of them. Some are okay, but only cause I wrote them while drunk and each one took me like 5 minutes.

PS. Haven't been here in a while. Hope everyone is fine.
I'm not dead, so I guess I'm fine too. I'm in the process of renewing my invalid status (due to depression) so I can get them free government monies. It's kind of irritating that I won't get paid for the looong duration of the process (up to 2 months while they figure out if I'm worthy of the money), but I set up loans from my mom and my friend, so I should be ok.

Anyone else file their own taxes? (USA)

I do mine online, and the fact they merged all the forms together this year made it easier AND harder... I spent alot more time reading the manual, to make sure things should be left blank, only to realize once I was done that I only had to fill in like 5 things past my W2 info, including my bank info...

All the randomly reserved fields seemed like weird relics of the old forms, tho...

And yea, I waited super late to file... then started freaking out 5 minutes after filing because I noticed I forgot to check the retirement plan checkbox on my digital W2, while doing my state taxes... only for the IRS to accept it anyway...

message 3800: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I haven’t had to do that stuff however according to what I’ve heard you America is one of the few places where the people have to work out how much they owe the government as I believe in other countries the government alright does that for us. I don’t pay taxes so I may be wrong about that but I hear it is a back breaking process or something
