@Ahdam- Absolutely. Day to day he drives me up the wall, but I mean this year especially with me being mentally ill I know how deep of a bond we have and we love each other fiercely.

Today though I had to clean up a bucket of dog shit that he left out in the rain by mistake and the pups knocked it over so I’d definitely prefer the chips 😂

Well I had just finished my job interview this morning and my week has been pretty crazy/irritating

-I nearly got fined for getting the wrong ticket
- I've been driving this week and had to drive to the same place twice to get some documents for my interview
-I also drove on the motorway to Sheffield to see the family which was fun
-I stayed for dinner there and didn't get back till 12
-Yesterday was hectic to get everything ready for the interview

This might seem like whining to you or even nothing but it was crazy for me and now I just wanna sit down and go to sleep but I can't so I'll stick with being a slob for this week even though I need to submit my proposal next Friday so this year of Uni is definitely going to be eventful

Does anyone else get a tiny bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of books out there? That you haven't yet read! And maybe feel worried that because some aren't too well known, you might miss out entirely?

I get overwhelmed by that thought a lot. But I also use it as encouragement, both to DNF the books that just aren't making the cut, and to know that if I focus on reading the awesome books first (I used to save them for a rainy day), I probably won't run out of great things to read because the pool seems endless.

THIS. I used to panic (yes, seriously, panic!) at the thought that I would never read ALL the awesome books before I die. Now, it just means I'll never run out of amazing reads :p

No, because a lot of those books are in genres I have no interest in reading at all. I'll be quite happy to die without ever having read another chick lit book or pompous piece of high literature ever again!

Factor those out and there's what, 10,000 books in the genres I'm actually interested in? Even if you double that, thanks to authors writing new books, I can knock say a third off as books I'll DNF.

So that leaves 13,333 books that I have to read. I'm rounding that down to 10,000 again to take into account the books I've already read in my life. I can get through about 100 books a year, give or take a few, so a thousand books every decade. All I have to do is live for another 100 years and I'll have completed all the good books I want to read. Frankly, I can't see what you're worrying about! :D

Ok this is gonna be interesting but here goes

For my final semester, I will be working on a 10 minute short film and the story my group will be telling is about a little girl, whose father is in the military and he leaves her a Teddy bear as a parting gift, which slowly becomes part of the family but when she loses the Teddy Bear, it affects her greatly and she'll stop at nothing to find it.


It's probably a bit vague but this is something I want to do because A) This reminded me a lot about my favourite Asimov story B) I can vaguely relate not fully since what happened to me isn't as extreme or in the same situation but more like a taste.


Anyway what I wanted to ask you guys was if any of you had a family member who were in the military that spent long periods of time away from home and how this has had an effect?

If you don't have that then have you or anyone in your family spent long period of time away from each other and how has that effected you or that person if that makes sense?

I understand if this is a bit personal but I'm very fond of this story (at the beginning I wasn't feeling it because one of my ideas was brought up and I was very defensive but now I on board with this) and the more I understand this subject or the emotions surrounding this subject then I will feel confident about what I want to show my audience if that makes sense.

So any help is appreciated :) :) :)

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away... I had a father. We lived together until I was eight. Then my mom had the brilliant idea to go live in the USA. Soooo, she took me but left my dad in Russia. We returned after 3,5 years to the news that my dad started an affair with this other woman. So yeah... they got a divorce like immediately. In hindsight, that was a rather stupid thing to do - leaving the country, not the divorce. There's a lesson learned.
And if I didn't particularly like my dad before, then after we returned to Russia I became totally alienated from this... man.

I haven't but I read the book recently.
Does the show focus more on psychological horror like the book does? I've seen the movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones and it focused much more on visible horror which isn't that true to the book.

It's more creepy, at least for me. They don't use a lot of the normal horror tactics and I find that refreshing. I don't want to give examples and ruin it but if you watch it we can compare notes. There's just a constant tension in every episode vs a build up to a climatic scary scene. There are some thrilling scenes but they're in the flow of the show.

I generally like horror books more than movies or TV. So for me to like this it's out of the norm.

Yes. The show is definitely the characters coming to grips with their trauma and grief. It's definitely not splatterpunk. It's firmly in psychological horror with a gothic feel in the early time period and overall a supernatural feel.

So yesterday I helped photograph my sisters medx talk (like tedx but more focused on medicine stuff) and it was pretty cool I wasn’t paying attention to a lot of it (I was dancing around the room taking pictures) but it was pretty cool

Although I’m thankful I go to a small university because leeds is massive so I would have got lost very quickly even my sister isn’t familiar with the uni

Now I’m hoping all the pictures are alright but I’m happy to be a part of this and do something like this 😂😂

Yea... I remember my college years... I never continued to grad school... I think dissertations vary by discipline, but they seemed pretty scary in computer science, where half my professors invented something for their dissertation... a new more efficient sorting algorithm, etc, etc...

So I just found out that Stephen king has started to support film students

What I mean is I found out from a website that Stephen king has a page on his website called Dollar babies which are his short stories that are not currently under contract and he will sell the rights to film students for $1 which is pretty cool

Yeah now I respect mr king a hell of a lot more for doing this and I might look into it in the near future

Yeah, I already heard what you wrote in your spoiler ^^
From what I've heard, ToG includes basically everything I don't like about YA fantasy books and I don't want to read it just to see what the hype is about when there are so many other books.
My friends told me that people die in the later books and that's why they said it's violent. I actually find it quite hilarious they still wanted to recommend it to me after I had described the type of books I typically like, but maybe our opinions of what's dark and complex just differ ^^
