Narilka | 5696 comments SQUEEEE!!!!! I met Ilona and Gordon Andrews tonight at a book signing :D

They are super great people. While they were signing my book I told them they made my summer with the announcement of more Hidden Legacy. Ilona told me how much fun she's having writing Catalina right now and had started to describe a scene when Gordon stopped her because of spoilers lol

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5358 comments They're going to be at DragonCon tonight, too. I should have gone. I have a few friends there this weekend. I'm way jealous.

message 3157: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5696 comments Yep, they're at DragonCon all weekend. It's why I chose to go to the signing yesterday - to avoid downtown Atlanta :) Traffic is going to be unreal. Along with the Con, there are two football games, the Decatur Book Fest and a gay pride parade all happening at the same time.

I do need to go one of these years just to do it. I keep hoping Brandon Sanderson will come back, that would get me to buy a ticket.

message 3158: by Diana Stormblessed (new)

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5358 comments If you want to see Sanderson go to JordanCon, also in Atlanta. He goes every other year. He won't be there in 2019 but will be back in 2020. But the artist for the inside of Oathbringer, Dan dos Santos, will be there in 2019. I go every year now. Fly down from New Jersey :-)

message 3159: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5696 comments That's pretty awesome Diana :) I'm in one of the many Atlanta suburbs and hate going downtown due to the traffic. It's bad on a normal day, forget when there are a lot of events at the same time. I'll definitely have to check it out in 2020. Do they mind if you go for the Sanderson half and aren't really a big Jordan fan?

I only do the Sandertrack. I basically live in that room all weekend. I went to one Wheel of Time panel in my 3 years of going and wasn't a fan. I'm not a huge fan of Wheel of Time. I finished the books just because of JordanCon but it's just not really my thing. There's a lot of people that just go for the side tracks.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments That’s great Narilka I haven’t been to an author signing for about a year which is a shame although there are a few interesting people coming next week near my are I might go

Honestly I was so happy when I found out Sanderson was coming to the uk to promote oathbringer it was probably the best moment of my life

Ahh, good to know I'm not alone :) Yeah, I'm not the biggest WoT fan either. I think I got to book 8 when I gave up. It was back when they were originally being published so it's been a while. Some day I'd like to read the final three that Sanderson wrote and maybe just look up summaries for the previous books. I haven't quite decided if I want to attempt all of Jordan's books again.

I read Wheel of Time in college, and got caught up just in time for the Sanderson books to start coming out... those were my first Sanderson books, and only ones for a few years there... but I don't think I could ever go back and re-read Wheel of Time... and I don't think I would have made it throught WoT if I had more experience with the genre...

message 3164: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments I read Wheel of Time over 2016 and into 2017. Mostly because of Sanderson, since I want to read all of his books. I did enjoy them, but they aren't favorites. Debating on if I want to keep the series on my shelves or not. I will keep the Sanderson ones because I got them signed, but not sure about the others. So many other things could take those places.

message 3165: by Diana Stormblessed (new)

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5358 comments Yeah, Sanderson is the only reason I kept reading them. I would have given up around book 6 without those last 3 as motivation to continue.

No problem. American exceptionalism means we're "excepted" from all the rules we expect others to abide by.

I think you kinda made my point while sounding like you were contradicting it...

Niki/Scott in America, Margret in Canada, Jenna/Angela living abroad, but from America/Canada... and I think over half the names you listed of members live in Europe/Asia/Australia...

Bill | 2150 comments Holiday weekend has me falling behind on all my buddy reads already. For my two reads for the 1st I’m 10% into one and haven’t started the other. Now I have another read starting today. Falling behind on scheduled reads always puts me into a reading slump.

message 3185: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Weee, one of my aquantances will give me ten or so very old books. Some are late 18 hundreds, some are early 19 hundreds. We will probably split the money I'll get halfway.
One of them is a 1937 War and peace. Not too old but still expensive.

message 3186: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Do we have any day dreamers here?

I’m wondering because a few weeks ago I found out that Elinor was a day dreamer like me since I was a kid I would say dream of being my own hero and some other story stuff for example a find day dream I remember was me when I walked out of school then a guy comes up to me and shoot me then I am transported to a different world where I’m actually someone of great importance as I use my dimensional jumping abilities to learn and recruit powers from warriors in different time periods on Earth such as a samurai a detective etc and become an ultimate superhero of sorts

I also daydream of another story inspire by a Tetris video but that’s for another time

I know it doesn’t make sense but that’s what 10 year old me thought

Anyway are there any other dreamers here? and if so do you have a dream you remember very well?

I forgot to mention I remember being told I act weird when I daydream as I usually do a short sprint to get the blood flowing it’s weird 😂😂😂😂

message 3187: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments I dream only at night.
Tonight I was a happy barista for the majority of the dream, and it ended with me beating the shit out of some muggers and going to prison for 7 years. So much for happy endings, lol.

PS. Those books I talked about recently turned out to be in very shit condition, so no moneys for me.

message 3188: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1619 comments I'm a daydreamer too, have been since I was 13ish I guess - every single good book/ Tv Show/ Movie has been incorporated in these dreams.

message 3189: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments @idiffer don’t take this the wrong way but the way you dream ended just made me think “sounds about Russian to me” I don’t it maybe my skewed perception of Russians as cold blooded people who show no emotion due to the cold and certain political events 😂😂😂

Also that’s a shame at least there’s a next time

@Karishma a lot of my day dreams are inspired by stuff I watch and I don’t really feel bad about taking those ideas and putting my self into them. Do you have any find day dreams or do you wish to keep them to yourself?

Fabulous! I’m glad you’re doing well!

I’ve definitely had better times :). It’s hard being a health care worker sometimes, you see so many awful things, and often become desensitized.. but every once in a while a patient comes along, and something big happens. They re awaken that human side of you that can’t abide suffering. That along with a bunch of family emergencies within a very short period of time put me at a severe deficit

So I’ve spent the summer battling mental illness, but am now coming out stronger than before this all due to so many reasons, but mostly cause I have been working ridiculously hard every day on myself using many techniques (which I can expand on, but it’s a long conversation so I don’t want to bore anyone unasked)

Mental illness is really horrible, glad to hear it's getting better! *sends virtual hug*
Yes, in healthcare you have to walk a narrow line between sensitivity and protecting yourself, it can be hard.

And I'm really looking forward to see some of your new awesome projects on instagram ;)

I need to finish my thesis this month, so I'm a little stressed, but otherwise I'm fine.

message 3197: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Wow I did not realise Margaret I can’t imagine what you must go through in your work life and I won’t sugar coat it at all

Also mental health is really difficult to talk about since I personally have had friends and family who had suffered from mental health issues and I think the worst part of it is not knowing that inside they had this pain which they bottled up for so long and to me that’s heartbreaking

Anyway I’m glad your doing well with it and it’s nice to hear your back a lot stronger than ever I honestly hate seeing this eating away at people especially you guys but since your sharing this with us it shows your doing a lot better so I thank you for that. And I hope to see more of your stuff as well I need some merchandise for my production company/YouTube channel and I’m hoping to leverage our friendship for my needs 😂😂😂😂

Anyway I’m happy your better now for the hundredth time is give you a hug but I still have some insecurity left in me so you get an air 5
