I got a friend invite last week that was just an ad for some book torrenting site...

Hailee | 2762 comments Does anyone in this group take part in readathons?

There is a fun one going on in June so I thought I'd leave the link to the info page here in case anyone is interested:

https://jamishelves.wordpress.com/201...

I've started taking part in more readathons because I really enjoy them; both actually taking part and the planning that goes into deciding what books to read for the challenges set.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments So it’s been over a week of Ramadan and so far I’m doing alright don’t know if I lost weight or not but for some reason I’ve been craving for a can of red bull recently and I know redbull isn’t really A+ for healthy eating but it’s one of those things I like having when I feel like it when I’m really tired or something like that

It's not healthy at all, and if you drink while you haven't done any hard sport it could be bad weight wise and health wise.. I think it might be more psychological in your case but what do I know about life :P Maybe think about drinking a fresh juice for tiredness..

Also may the Ramadan and fasting be easy on you :) It's especially hard on summer..

message 2707: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
Oh yeah that would be really hard on your body especially during Ramadan

message 2708: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeah I know I dont drink red bull to often only when I feel like it which isn't that often but I'll survive

I've learned to drink a full glas of water before I start fasting after I eat so I dont dehydrate for the dayand I've recently found out what you shouldn't do when your fasting or eating as well if your looking to eat healthy or lose weight such as avoiding fried food and not eating too quickly

Like I said not sure if I've lost weight but hoping it wont be like last summer where after Ramadan I put on a lot of weight which was the worst feeling of last year since I spent most of my summer on my bed and I didn't lose that weight until I went back to university but that's a story for another time :) :) :) :)

message 2709: by Sedat (new)

Sedat Yıldız | 263 comments Well the thing is fasting supposed to be about realization of all the things we have as humans, and understanding the poor etc.

But today most people fast just because it's a must and after fasting they start to eat 5 courses of meal lol (with dessert ofc) It's kind of not the purpose of fasting when you eat the worlds in 30 min. And also I saw that most of the time half the meal is waste. So yeah most of the people gain weight and the main reason for fasting ignored..

Good to know. I'm just going to assume it's a temporary glitch then.

message 2713: by Hailee (new)

Hailee | 2762 comments Just had a look on the Goodreafs feedback group as well and LOADS of people are reporting that the dates they have read books have disappeared and so their challenge figures have also disappeared.

I finished Mansfield Park earlier today and had to input my finish date manually which I've never had to do before. And I've just realised it hasn't appeared on my challenge. All the others are there though.

message 2714: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5696 comments Yeah all reading dates have disappeared from my books. Fun.

Goodreads team is busy "improving" the site at the moment... making it work more like mobile app...

We've been complaining in Feedback, but they have some "test group" outside of Feedback that loves the changes they are making...

message 2719: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5696 comments And some of my reading dates have disappeared again. Also now my homepage isn't displaying progress status to my currently reading books. I'm glad I keep a backup of my reading history elsewhere.

Narilka | 5696 comments Thanks Ahdam! I left a toxic work environment. You don't know just how bad it was affecting you until it's not any more. The difference is amazing. I don't doubt this place will have its challenges, every workplace does, but already I see a difference. It's a whole different mentality in the workers.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments I was up until 1am watching Gone With the Wind. I was originally only planning to watch until Scarlett and Rhett meet for the first time but, ah, well. I hadn't seen the movie since I was in high school and it's amazing how time can change your perspective. Now all I could think was why in the world didn't Rhett deliver his "frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" line a helluva lot earlier?

John Compton | 163 comments Do any of you feel like you are "cheating" when you read a non-fantasy book? In between books 5 and 6 of WoT, I squeezed in a mystery (Jeffrey Deaver's The Empty Chair - part of the Bone Collector series), and thoroughly enjoyed some simple "beach reading" - not having to worry about 50 characters and 10 types of creatures and a magic system. I've only been doing fantasy about 10 years (getting hooked with ASOFAI), and just getting a taste of a bunch of authors I love (Abercrombie / Sanderson / Weeks / Tad WIlliams / Erickson (yes, Scott, I will get back to Malazan and try again someday)). I do love the genre, but it felt GREAT to get back into a mystery for a couple of weeks.

I think it depends how much reading time you have... I read a book almost every day, at the moment... at least every 2-3 days for the past 5 years (Malazan and other tomes take as long as a week)... and if all I read was fantasy I'd go crazy... these days I'm constantly going back and forth between sci-fi and fantasy, with Urban Fantasy, Paranormal/Historical/Contemporary Romance and just some genre-benders to mix it up... I don't read much mysteries/thrillers, but I used to... only genres I really avoid is horror, nonfiction, and the Classics...

I'm not one to cheat on my genre often as when I find a new "side-girl" she never quite delivers

GR has been fiddling with the profile changes... moving buttons/menus... so they must have broken something yesterday... since people have been complaining the new profile page is making arbitrary decisions on a user-by-user basis on whether friend/follow buttons are visible or hidden in the drop-down menu...

I read this and pulled up my front page feed and saw someone liked an update and I was like "Who's this?... Did I add this person as a friend?"... apparently, I did... over a year ago... probably someone that changed their username to include their real name... or I'm just terrible... I mean, I only have like 50 friends and counting...

I'm still not 100% sure GR didn't just stealth add them to my friend's list and backdate them to last year :)

At this rate, I will develop quite the reputation as a sort of horrific cross between Lift and the MAJORHUGE EDIT the original Lorelei Lee from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
O wait...that I already have...😂😂😂
And (view spoiler)

Poor Lundos 😂😂😂 He would rather go China and suffer the Death of a Thousand Cuts. And Marge...when he reads this post he will be in urgent need of respiratory therapy. Having choked on his own tongue while cringing.
Wait...wait...what team is he in?
Oooooou Lundosssssss...😈

Meanwhile, how come nobody thought to put Finbar's Happy Fuji Demom book over as the topic for Fluffers?
Or even considered the wide selection of really ugh-ly erotica covers/80s Avon romance covers of the women with really orange hair, really despo expressions, really magenta lips + really obvious bazooms spilling out of aubergine-coloured lace...it will suit the house of Smak.
I am evil.
