I'm taking part in a readathon this week and this book fits really well with a challenge and looks like its a quick book to read but I've heard a lot of mixed things about it so its making me hesitant to pick it up. Opinions anyone?

For my film course I’ve been tasked to make a short film in a group and we encountered a few problems with communication planning auditions all that stuff and it’s been really stressful especially balancing it with university work as well as the part time job and there are times when I want to scream into a pillow
But for some reason.....I’m enjoying it so much despite the troubles I love figuring out how to solve the issues and find alternatives to help us move forward and while my compadres just want to get it done I really want this film to be good and I will hopefully begin filming next Tuesday which I’m excited for not only due to experiencing it but also to see what problems I have with it because this is what Filmmaking is figuring shit out and hopefully it will all go well in the end.
Thanks Zaara that is very sweet of you. I’m sure my mom was reading something with zero regard to chronological order to celebrate 😂

I haven't read that one but I've read a bunch of other books by that author and I really like her. I would def give it a go.

She's the one that reads books only to find out it's the middle of a series later, right?... After denying reading the book at all, last week?...

Yes that Mom 😂 I don’t allow her to hand out books to my sister because I know she will just mess everything up for her

Thanks Diana, if i finish my other two books before the end of the readathon I'll give AtCS a go 😊

😂😂 @ yeah she's that Mom....

Steifvater's good, I hear. Go with the reviewers you trust. Also I think Chapter 1 is available online for free...try it and see if you get pulled in. All the best for the readathon, Hailee.
@Ahdam...hope your project turns out well.
Good to see that you are keeping your eye on what's important and retaining the core intent + passion.

Thanks Zaara I'm not gonna lie I have my doubts sometimes especially knowing that I will probably never be that person to hit the A list and all that but I want to do something with my ideas
Maybe one day I will tell you guys about all the story ideas I have when I feel like it and then watch in horror as some of you win awards off of my ideas :) :)

Blast, Adham, you just guessed my dastardly plan!

Anyway if I do share my ideas I’ll probably do nothing but inflate my ego but who knows maybe when I am bored I’ll tell everyone anyway 😂😂😂😂

To sum it up she talks about how one story can be very impressionable and if some of you guys remember a few weeks ago we had a chat about stereotypes we all face and most of them are due to stories being told to us when we were young. The speaker talks of how her American roommate felt pity for her because she was Nigerian due to having pre conceived notions of what it is like in Nigeria but having no other story about it looking at a different light.
This puts me in a predicament because I want/need to tell stories to people and what this talk taught me is that try to tell stories from my perspective of a sort and not tell stories I've seen from other films with guns/gangsters and all that shit but at the same time I want to tell stories that I want to tell.
I'm sorry if all of this is a mess this stuff really has me thinking and its confuses me sometimes but as someone who is asian I think there are people who would like to know what it is like for someone of my background living in the inner city and people might like it but there is a problem....I'm not interested in telling that story. I dont know if it is filmmaking naiveté or just plain stubbornness but those stories dont interest me and the stories that I am interested in are about us as humans.
A short film script that I am working on right now tells a story about a guy who wants to be a hero and save an abused wife but it doesn't end well for the hero. That story was inspired by people I see on the internet about vigilantism and how easy it is to take the law into your own hands but some can argue the consequences can be shocking and you see so many films that glorify the idea of vigilantism and how it solves all the problems but in the end you can't do that. These are the types I am interested in looking at human beings and I want to have a look at examining how Logic and emotions clash together and I have other ideas that I want to make based on stuff I have seen/experienced
To keep it with science fiction and fantasy I'm gonna tell you guys of another idea which I wish to make into a feature film one day.
In a society where the government has control of the people but with that control they were able to become an advanced society with new technology and great efficiency one man who has conformed to his society and sees the positives of it suddenly has his life turned upside down when he walks into a small room with one mirror showing an entirely different world similar to ours with a girl who goes against the rules and wishes to break down the walls to bring what she believes in and is now confronted with person who goes against everything she stands for and likewise for the man.
Bit wordy I know but this story was inspired not only by my love of dystopian but also from how I see people and including my friends react to people who assign themselves to political parties and I wish to show it in further detail in the future.
Well that's it like I said it gave me a lot to think about and I found the talk refreshing but worrying at the same time and I hope to tell stories people will take back from and while I could probably tell better stories I hope to learn from all of this. Yeah I'm gonna stop now before this wall of text topples on you guys so enjoy your night :) :) :).

That would take up a lot of space in the profile photos. Will limit how many photos I can share I guess.

I don't want to just dump all the photos into the profile section. It's too public. I'd want to share with you guys but not like everyone who's trying to look me up.
Another option is imgur, I think... Post an album... make sure you set it to private so it doesn't end up in usersub... then link it here...
You are right, that anybody viewing your profile could see these cosplay photos... most of what I upload is impersonal...

That would freak me out too!

Money spent on library = less than 100$.
Estimated cost of half the library = 1000$
Most expensive book sold: three lives (Bilunov) for 30$ (aquired for 3$)
Most useless set of books: Mark Twain, 1961 (12 volumes).
Funny thing is, I don't even like paper books. And the crossover between what I'm selling and what I'm reading is 0%.

Also while I was on the job I met 2 people I signed up the charity and apparently they use there one to catch pedophiles and at first I thought they were joking but it turns out they’re serious and they even chase down these people and get into crashes bringing them down and Honestly my mouth was a gap the entire time 😨😨😨😨

Obviously I love both, but the idea of finding an old obscure fantasy book that's about to become a new favourite draws me in a way that a normal bookshops selling the same range as everyone else just doesn't.
If I wasn't a germaphobe I'd agree with you whole heartedly. Although it has always been more fun browsing for those hidden treasures in used bookstores so I totally get what you mean. :) I usually go in looking to fill holes in my collection with books that aren't easy to find anymore.

I should probably go around charity shops and see what they have since there’s one in every corner where I live

I love second hand book shops, Shaitarn! I rarely buy books new.

One of the few things I regret about moving is leaving the British Heart Foundation shop near where I worked - they sold music, books and DVDs, and their fantasy section was great! I took a couple of books in once, feeling so virtuous and proud of myself - came out with two bags of 14/15 books...

Hahaha that definitely sounds like something I would do. It's still virtuous though, you ended up giving books and a load of money to charity! XD
I'm not sure whereabouts you live, but have you heard of Barter Books in Alnwick? It's my favourite second hand book store ever. The atmosphere is amazing, I get a pile of books then go and sit in front of the open fireplace with a cuppa and some breakfast/lunch. It is my happy place. 🙌 ♥

When you announced your stats I had to do some math to see if I'm in trouble, frankly :)
I'm struggling to overthrow Niki The Cheater ;P... she gets so many free comments creating series schedules/threads... I have a feeling, by the time I overtake Niki, Niki will have overtaken Scott the Lurker :D... and that's still nearly 2000 comments away for me... 1600 for Niki...

I hadn't heard of it, but I looked it up online and now I want to visit it sometime! Who wouldn't want to visit a second hand bookshop that used to be a train station?!
Lol Iain. Yeah all those thread creations and rule explanations go a long way towards my totals. (Bwahahaha). You're involved in so many daily conversations I've not doubt you'll bypass us all in no time.
Out of curiosity, are you getting close to overtaking mod count in other groups too?

Hahaha! I'm gradually stopping filtering myself. I'm trying to keep the sarcastic comments to myself though. :p

I type many comments and then don't post them ...
Did that with this comment once already, accidentally closed the browser window.

I don't talk this much in other groups (since joining here)... I wracked up 1300 comments in Girls, Guns & Grimoires mostly from May to September last year (10th place), before Veronica lured me over here... and I have 675 comments in the Urban Fixation after 2.5 years (10th place again)...
They don't hold a candle to my 3333 comments here tho, in only 7 months (3rd place)... if I had this many comments in my other groups, I'd be 1st and 2nd place...

Wow is right. After so much talk about comment numbers I was curious about my own numbers, so I looked it up, and this will be comment 297 since I joined in at the end of November. So in those 4 months I haven't even approached Iain one month average lol!!! I need to up my game ;-).
It's worse than that Virginie... I exploded when I started joining every Buddy Read...

Obviously this topic has come up a few times... some days, we just get into a lively discussion in Random Chatter or a new thread and I make 100+ comments in 24hrs... this is a great group for that... the stars align and everyone is on and a great topic is raised... like when Scott had us debating the definition of genres and sub-genres a few months ago...

No, usely it's not that cold. A couple of degrees less, but it was due to the Russian cold wave and a day later we had lots of snow.
