Ahh yeah this reminds me of my trip to California when I was 16. I couldn't believe it when just across the border in Washington people were shocked that we wore t-shirt and shorts, were driving a truck and not a snowmobile, I even got asked where we kept the dogs for our sled. They wanted to know how we had heard of Disneyland (our destination) without television... It was crazy and fun at the same time because after a while you just go with it and you see their faces stuck with shock and amazement. Now this wasn't ALL the Americans that I met but it did happen quite often. I was genuinely shocked at how little they knew about their northern neighbours.

You wouldn't believe how many people just accepted this.

I seem to think that the conversation we had about Germany was a trip you took there, not where you're from.... SO, I'd like to change my food order to fish and chips, bangers and mash, spotted dick, with Sheppards pie to go! With a pint of course! Sorry! (another Canadian thing to do lol)

@Chris: I'd been living in my apartment for most of 2 years and just realized that the window in the bathroom had such a big gap while the latch was on that I could see outside through it... fixing that cut down on my winter heating bill...

Chris Pratt absolutely rocked the Essex accent, and he's right, the people on that show are the WORST people! Please do not judge us Brits from reality TV! 😂 😂 😂

You have to understand though, in Canada there's two versions of Sheppard's Pie. In Quebec, it's a ground beef and onions bottom, then a layer of creamed corn, then seasoned mashed potatoes (with no gravy). In BC where I grew up, the ground beef mix has peas, corn niblets and mushrooms mixed with a beef stock gravy and spices. Then its topped with mashed potatoes again and smothered in gravy. Neither pie actually has any type of a crust and is served like a casserole.
Aaand... I'm caught up... mighty achievement... I'd read and comment and there'd be another 20 I missed while reading THIS thread...

I made a traditional Irish Stew recently, and I'm in love with Irish Champ! It was a Guinness recipe, but I used Kilkenny instead because I'm not a fan of Guinness.

I think this was a slice of cheese as a layer... a real abomination...
I was also kinda anti-cheese as a kid... a lot of my eating decisions stemmed from my mom's aversion to cheese, peanut butter, cereal, and desserts...
I now eat tons of cheese, and have at least tried some pies... but I still prefer vanilla ice cream... and avoid cereal / peanut butter...
