If it wasn't painfully obvious I am doing a film degree and I am in my second year. After my first year my interest in film had grown immensely that I am currently writing a screenplay for my own as well as having a few ideas.
One of them which is close to being done but needs some checking is a story about a loner who decides to be a hero which goes catastrophically wrong
Need to work on that but what I want to talk about is mistborn now I don't think I can adapt the story yet due to limitations here and there but maybe someday I could, I was so interested with the magic and the world that it gave me this idea
It is set around modern times with modern technology about mistborn presenter decides that he along with his film crew (I imagine the world will have cameras by then) will educate the public on Allomancy and the magic system teaching them about all the metals and even showcasing some Atium and Duralumin in a fun and entertaining way e.g flying around and being hit by bats (his mates pulls a prank on him by giving him some Aluminium)
My main idea comes from youtube videos such as Brave Wilderness where the guy decides to sting himself to show how you shouldn't fear insects I'll link it below because it is interesting if you guys aren't afraid of bugs that is and I like the charisma and mixture of entertainment/education which is what I'm trying to go for in the film as it is my interpretation of the magic system in mistborn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXjHb...
I also considered having a bit of conflict off camera with the power of Atium and how dangerous it actually is however I'll need to think of a way to work it in plus I need to keep to the KISS principle Keep It Simple Stupid
So what do you think? I'm sure there could be better stories to tell or just adapt the book but I wanna try something different I may never have it made or I might make it and it will be shit but I love film and I hope to get my projects to set off in the future and frankly I don't care if they don't become reality as long as they have been made into films and this story is one I'm very interested to make into a film so shoot me down
One last thing the reason I'm telling you guys is because most of us have read mistborn so its easy to get people who know the books f they understand what I am doing so yeah.
Actually after writing this I all of a sudden feel bad now that's what you get for inflating your ego hahahahaha
Happy Holidays everyone :) I hope you are all able to do something that brings you joy this season. For me, I get off work on Christmas morning, get to go home and spend time with my family, then go to bed!
I hope you all have a wonderful, healthy, book filled new year.

If I were you, I'd put together a SOLID story/screen play, and then pitch the idea to BS himself. If anyone could help you with the vision aspects, it would be the man himself. Just make sure it's a solid proposal since we all know his work and his work ethic.

I spent the entire semester going through the process and it can be frustrating getting your story character and dialogue together but that's what it takes to get a secure script with a good story

I spent the entire semester going..."
And thats what makes great films, the lines and the actors that give them life. You need the passion and commitment from both sides of the lense. And if you have those elements, then I'm sure you'll get your movie!

You know when I start to ask, what makes a scene for me, it's always intensity, usually in a court room setting. At least the ones that come to mind anyways. 2 scenes with Samuel Jackson and the other with Jack Nicholson. But there needs to be some sort of intensity through visual revelation. Can Nero handle himself against an apparently stronger Mr. Smith? Can the unsure self doubting martial artist beat the Korean Master who has no qualms about killing his opponent in the ring? So you would have to have some kind of a party crasher that turns your camera session into a dire situation. Like maybe your master Mistborn is killed on film motivating the camera man to study Allowmancy to exact revenge. Then that would set up a growth period for your mc and an epic fight for the end of the book too. Just some ideas buddy.

Just start brainstorming wherever you do it best. Each successful writer has their own quirks that make them successful. Just try not to make it alcohol, absinthe, or other drugs.

I hope you have a quiet graveyard shift, and a Merry Christmas! And that goes to all of our members as well. If you're not of the Christian faith, then Happy Holidays and your I hope that your New Year brings you all that you desire!
I made it out of town before the snow hit... there was some accumulation where I live, but 10 minutes out of town and there was nothing... 4hrs later the snow has caught up to me 145 miles south...

Also Chris...cool analysis...
@Ahdam...what he sez about scene and dialogue + check your course outline/wherever the assignment was set...sometimes the "set question" is sneakily worded and includes a cunning proviso or (part 2) of a question, stuck in a parenthetical phrase...or as an offshoot...
Also, mostly Uni works like this...ideally, you'd be wanting to demo the techniques/principles you "studied in class/learned this semester" + show mastery of what you learned in previous courses.
Surprises are good, I've been reliably imformed.
Of course, I never went to film school...but...I don't believe you are expected to be Tarantino or whomever first try out the box. But you are expected to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Don't wanna see you overanalyse and funk up ok?
Ohk the Inept Psycho Teach 😈 will shaddup now 😂😂😂
And oh I sooo agree that Samderson would be thrilled to see a fan film...no really, he'll be chuffed...writers are people, no? They too like to know that they/their work is loved....its all...heartwarming, I tell ya.
+ you're very likeable, POTUS
+ he's already met you...
All the best, Bruh and happy new year to you + H + the other 3.

Cheers Zaara and don't worry I've spent the semester trying to get my life together after a summer of being a slob I feel the need to get out there with my now slacking photography (gonna try and get out there and do it on Tuesday once I fix my sleep patterns) and my modules had taught me the processes in making a film from writing and I've been watching youtube videos as well as a few books on it and I hope to get at least one short film of my own by next year (I've got a 5 minute short film for an assignment so I cant wait for that) so its gonna be very embarrassing if I find myself spending next year on my arse again so hopefully this gives me the chance to do something with my life.
I don't expect to be Tarantino either and to be fair filmmaking is all about experimenting and finding what's best for you so the sooner I become confident with my piece the better I can improve on the craft since I have a few mates who will happily help me if I can get it off the ground.
Also after writing down the story I've had a rethink I'm getting a western type feel for the story like I said it may not happen but it could give me a chance to branch into one of my favourite film genres but I think I'll leave it till I read Alloy of Law since there's guns there but end of diatribe

Diatribe...from the Latin...dia (dialogue) + tribe (group of ppl) so...diatribe actually, in its purest form = learned discourse
😂😂😂 rather a compliment, no?
Is all good, bruh...no worries...I rather enjoy discoursin'

Best wishes to ALL!!!!
I love Annie Lennox (actually Eurythmics) version of Winter Wonderland.

I have never gotten a like or comment from this guy, so I was curious, and I went onto his profile to see if we even have any books in common.
What's odd is that I went on his profile, and he has ONLY ONE book in his "read" shelf, but over 3k books on his "to-read" shelf. He is a member of 26 GR groups, and has 550 friends, but he's only been a member since October of 2017. . . He can't possibly be a serious reader haha.
Why do people do this haha? Seems kinda sketch.
Liam wrote: "This guy just reached out to me saying "Hi, I am active on goodreads. I reply to all of your posts and reviews", and sent me a friend request.

I'm guessing most people (those 550) didn't bother to check and just added him automatically.

Oh I know these kind of guy. Never have any idea why they do that though. "we seem to have a lot of books in common, looking forward to be your friend"
Me: *compare books* none in common

Makes no sense to me. It's not like he's even reviewing books and wants more followers - he literally has only has ONE BOOK on his read shelf haha.

I actually love Little Drummer Boy. That's my favorite Christmas song. And all of the classic, hymn book ones of course.

My favorite carols are:
- Winter Wonderland
- Little Drummer Boy ( I love the David Bowie / Bing Crosby collaboration)
- Gloria ( I think. I can hear it playing in my mind. It’s usually sung by a choir)
I’m sure there are others not coming to me at the moment.
I HATE Baby It’s Cold Outside.
Liam, did he write that ONE book on his read shelf? Lol
I really don't like all of those writing seminars that tell you to build a following as fast as possible. It's so ineffective and annoys most (me).

I think that interacting with readers as another reader is a better way to go. Trying to create a "following" just doesn't make sense to me.
Agreed! Additionally, people have to care about what your writing or doing before having them follow you has any meaning, otherwise it's just another number. Most people do it the other way around - try to get people to follow so they'll maybe see and care about what you're doing. The pull vs push method. Pull is always superior imo, but that's because I don't want people bugging me lol.

I kind of look at them in two categories, religious and more "secular".
Favorites on the more religious side are Little Drummer Boy (with my favorite version being Josh Groban's) and Silent Night.
On the not religious side, I love Dominick the Donkey and March of the Toys.
It’s cold as F here, -30 C. My car has the square tire phenomenon. But I’m thankful that we don’t have crazy snakes or cockroaches or really big spiders that like to jump

Yikes that's crazy! I'm in New York and we dont' have it nearly that bad here haha.

There was a article by the local news that we were colder than the North Pole. Haha.
Well if you can picture it, I’ll help you with my descriptions-
-it hurts to breathe this cold of air
-I burned my hand because I touched my cold door handle last night
- I get nerve pain in my fingers if I don’t wear warm mittens just for even a couple minutes
-yes I’m complaining

Its been single digit fahrenheit here in Illinois all week... supposed to be -9F tomorrow night... that's -22C...

Remembered a joke about Canada (forgot which comic):
"I moved to Canada because i like seasons"
"Yeah, i like em too, that's why i live in a place that has the best ones."
