Rereads are not such a bad idea to get focussed. I retain much more by eye reading, but I just can't listen very good. So, I want to focus on listening better. Easy audio would be best for that.

I have AC at least... and box fans... if I was marinating in the heat it would be worse... one of the advantages of returning to overnights, is I no longer have to do much midday driving, outside of doctor stuff...

message 6405: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments No AC in AK--though I bought a portable unit one year when it hit 80. Just NOT OK. We're supposed to stay under 70!!

re: rereads & audio--Audio is 100% a skill that you get better at as you use it! It starts out very iffy, but the more you do it, the more your brain learns, the more you can handle, the less mediocre narrators bother you or cause you to lose focus, and the faster you want to go...

Oh yeah, I saw that one lol. So true, though. They should have stopped riiight there... The trailer would have been intriguing enough already.

Clicked on the link and it was my first time watching the trailer. I no longer want to see the movie lol. I think it gave too much away. I think knowing what they show you in the trailer is going to make the movie boring. And I totally loved the book.

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 737 comments Thank you, guys ❤️
This afternoon, there was a big improvement with his feeding, so I hope that continues. With things settling, I am finally able to be more emotionally connected. I know there will still be ups and downs, but I am more hopeful about getting over the hurdles. And seeing my husband absolutely overjoyed over him... I had such mixed feelings during my pregnancy so I am a bit surprised how positive I am feeling now. It's like my whole life became the little guy for now and somehow that feels really good. Because all other life troubles seems so small in comparison. I am glad I have 6 months maternity leave here tho. Lot of time to adjust.

message 6422: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments 6 months! That's awesome! And also glad that the connection is kicking in. May the joys outweigh the challenges and the challenges be overcome together. It's a big life change.

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 737 comments I will probably limit my BR participation quite a bit, for next few months at least. Even though we are reading many of my high priority series it can still feel a bit forced to pick it up at a certain date. So I will be taking a bit of break to be able to mood read more. My Czech and Portuguese books lay untouched since I joined the group. I would probably end up behind a lot anyways with limited reading time now. So just a heads up if I disappear from some ongoing series discussions. I will still do the ones I signed up for personally.

totally expected... babies come first... and time is at a premium...

message 6426: by Marie (new)

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 737 comments I would manage quite a bit of one handed reading while breastfeeding but he is is still very fussy and sleepy at the breast so lot of time I cannot divide my attention. Or I am just too sleepy to read. But on one day he was feeding well I read 100 pages while breastfeeding.

message 6434: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments In college, I wouldn’t stop singing an annoying song when my roommate was trying to sleep so she threw a water bottle at me and I hit me right on the mouth. I had a fat lip for a week. Deserved it.

message 6435: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments Wow, that's some aim.

I once threw a book at a bug. I hit it and killed it. I felt bad for the book though. It was Harry Potter 7. So no wonder it killed the bug. Big-ass bug--a vinegaroon:

I threw the towel away after .. was pest control

message 6439: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments I caught three rats in the house I grew up in... with the help of cats... all with bare hands... one I had to throw away real hard, 'cuz it'd latched on to my finger... kind of like that Harry Potter scene in book 2, with the pixies... fortunately didn't give me anything nasty other than the bite.

message 6440: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments What on earth?! One time I got out of the shower and saw a centipede and I screamed and my husband killed it. That’s the worst that has ever happened to me with ‘creatures’. What lives are you all living? I’ve never even seen a rat.

message 6441: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35273 comments Mod
I meant a mouse...

I live in apartments... not NYC level... but between dumpster in parking lot, cold weather, and neighbors, mice are almost inevitable, at some point...

message 6442: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments Ahh okay. I have had a little experience with mice. Nothing where I had to kill one bare handed. My dorm in college had roaches which was horrible. And our house in Layton had earwigs and they used to get in the straw of my night drinking cup and one time I drank in the night and got one in my mouth. That was horrible.

message 6443: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments At work one day I heard a scream down the hall. My co-worker had a mouse scampering across her desk (we are in a little office complex). O.O Three of us closed the door. And had Tupperware. We screamed as they crawled on the computer wires and desk. Even once crawling up my friend’s leg!!! But my friend was quick and nabbed them. We then walked a few blocks away from the office and left them in a grassy area. What a day. Someone audio recorded the whole thing XD

We assume the mouse had come from the ceiling?! As maintenance had left a tile open for repairs. Never again. lol

message 6444: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35273 comments Mod
Mostly my own cluelessness at dealing with the problem...

And it was just scampering out in the open one time and I saw it and jumped at it...

Mouse became a problem for a 2nd time last year and I got some dcon spin traps, and took care of 1 that way... bit of a bloodier mess tho...

message 6445: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments My parents have mice at their house because they live next to a field. They use traps and poison. I offered to let them borrow my sweet Stevie kitty but I told them they’d have to clear out the poison. They don’t want to. Alright, but apex predator keeps the mice away.

message 6446: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments My friend lives in a condo apartment, and the condo has mice. The association won't do anything about it. She's tried a LOT of different methods... the most successful was a bucket of water with a food trap over it--mice fall in and drown... She has a dog right now that does nothing--next she says she's getting a cat.

message 6447: by Ann-Marie (new)

Ann-Marie | 5447 comments I had a mice problem and I got the sticky traps and those did the job, highly recommend them :)

message 6448: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments I'll bring it up if my friend mentions the mice problem again.

message 6449: by Marie (new)

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 737 comments Worst I had was wide centipede thing in house. I might get bit of fobia feeling from some spiders but these centipedes really paralyse me. We are moving from apartment into a house so wish me luck lol. At least parents in law took the basement floor/apartment and we are first floor. About accidentally eating insect... I worked cleaning in trash sorting factory and there was lot if small cockroaches there. One time I got a hot chocolate from vending machine and feel some hard part in my mouth. When I took it out it was a cockroach leg 🤢 Needless to say that I never drank anything from that machine again...

@Nirkatze Where do you live so I can avoid that place. Never want to see that thing you shared photo off...

Oh and the house has mice in churasceira and garage but hopefully they won't go more up... At least they are cute mice. Parents in law just got a kitten that they hope will eventually hunt them...

message 6450: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 20994 comments That insect was when I lived in Anhui, China... they're creepy looking but at least they aren't poisonous.

As for cockroaches and chocolate... Don't read this if you're squeamish and like chocolate: (view spoiler)
