Goodreads doesn't really feel like a fully functional website, and it hasn't for a long time (personally)... it feels like a functional website that is the best option because of previous dominance... I can't remember the last time I was happy with a new feature / change...

And every year the site breaks down for weeks at a time...

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Problem is sorta fixed. I was able to wiggle the dates in for the comic just now. It gave me an error message and then I was able to input the date for finished.

hahahah

***doom*** lol

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! I have officially completed all my May buddy reads and am one day ahead of schedule! I am a BR goddess. Feel free to send cards, flowers and chocolates to Utah care of ‘The Buddy Read Goddess’. USPS will know where to send everything.

Thank you for your time. Good day to you and yours.

As this is likely the last time this will ever happen, I had to make a stink.

LOL I bow down to you! I still have... six audio and two eyebooks to deal with... I'm hoping I can get a swath of those done tonight and tomorrow, but will not be as fortunate as you.

Flowers and chocolates:
(view spoiler)

In search for the above, I came across this pinterest and just started scrolling... so much I relate to...

One of my favorites was:
Boyfriend says, "books or me." I still remember him when buying new books sometimes.

Hear hear. I swear I just spent the last hour scrolling through that whole page... so nice to see a bunch of memes where I not only get the humor, I live the humor...

Especially liked a picture of a mystery section of a B&N, with all the books turned around so you couldn't see their spines... well played.

Weren't you reading at work when you got the new position and no direction on what to do for 2-3 days?... the joke was that's how you caught up... sudden, expected, extra reading time...

message 5815: by Felina (new)

Yes I agree :)

I heard it in a Youtube sprint the other day, that school reading is not "reading" as in reading for the joy of it, and how many ppl drop books from their life because of it.

message 5817: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35293 comments Mod
School reading and gaming are the double whammy... I lulled on reading for some years...

I didn't read as much in high school as before... shifted to gaming... then in college, the main recreational reading I did was 6 wheel of time books... then I picked up Shannara and Dresden Files after college... then I got a Kindle and read Bosch and Jack Reacher... then I "got serious" about reading again in 2013, and here we are :D

message 5818: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments I was big into reading after college and then when I had my son I read like 3 books a year. I’ve never read as much in my life as I do now. I love it

Nirkatze | 21010 comments Wow, captchas really hate me... and I hate them SO MUCH RIGHT NOW BACK... trying to get my reviews in before I have to change the month and day... and now each time I click to post, I have to go through TWENTY CAPTCHAS EACH and I swear I AM NOT DOING THEM WRONG why does it HATE ME!!!

message 5820: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35293 comments Mod
They're the worst... you kinda have to start guessing what the answer is, not what the truth is... half the time CAPTCHAs ignore when only a few pixels are in a square of a motorcycle or streetlight... it's annoying...

message 5821: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 3096 comments I get more reading done at work than at home. If it's really calm or when working weekends or late shifts, I can read for hours.

message 5822: by Marie (new)

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 738 comments From what I heard, this CAPTCHA actually doesn't really care that much about you marking all squares but tracks your actions to see if it feels natural, similar to the one you only confirm.

Goodreads starts asking you to do CAPTCHAs after you do 20-30 review in a day… the more days in a row you do this the more strict/annoying it gets… the more you continue once CAPTCHAs start, the more they make you do in a row for a single review… it’s annoying when you fall 300-500 behind like me every other year… Nirkatze has it worse reading so many short stories on top of everything else…

message 5827: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments Oh man.

message 5828: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21010 comments It'd be better if I wasn't trying to do all 64 books in May in one hour... I gave up after it the captcha wouldn't take my answers no matter what I did.... Just tested it with one review this morning though and it's back to normal. Too late for convenient dates, so I'll just have to live with it...

I miss getting more reading done at work than at home... once upon a time, I had a 9pm to 5:30am job, and I could listen to about 6hrs of audio per day at work, pretty consistently, sometimes even more, and that's before you start multiplying it by listening speed... I'd pretty much start a long book on the way to work and finish it on the way home, or read a book before and after lunch... and then read something else at home... I only listened at 2x speeds back then, tho, max... these days I'd be getting even more reading done...

These days, I get 2-3hrs of audio listening/day, if I'm lucky... more like 1.5-2hrs... 3-5hrs on Sundays...

In 2018, they got rid of 9pm to 6am shifts, and moved everybody to 4am to noon or 3pm to 11pm shifts... split responsiblities... etc etc etc...

So the times when I can listen to audiobooks changed... and also, safety regulations increased as people had accidents and caused injuries... I'm kinda lucky I can listen as much as I do... there have been short periods where I basically couldn't listen at all, before they loosened the rules again...

message 5833: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35293 comments Mod
As an addendum, I'm listening to books on earbuds at work, and others are mostly blaring music or maybe listening to podcasts... and it's hard to make rules for one person vs blanket rules for everyone... so when people blast music so loud they don't hear themselves making mistakes, rules change... it is what it is... I've been resistant to switch from corded to wireless earbuds... would be much easier to be sneaky with wireless earbuds, but I worried about losing and keeping charged as much as I listen each day... maybe I'll finally make the switch... it's getting harder to find/replace devices that still have a connector, with the death of the ipod...

message 5834: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 3096 comments It seems that it has changed a lot, but I can understand why. Nevertheless, if you don't have a bit of distraction, it can get a bit boring or so.
I also still use corded earbuds for the same reason as you. Still reluctant to change, though.

message 5835: by Felina (new)

Felina | 2416 comments My Raycons last a solid 12 hours. Highly recommend.

My husbands job banned listening to anything. I’d quit. I listen to podcasts at work to concentrate. If I just had to listen to the A/C or coworkers jibber jabber, I’d die. I work from home so I get listen to whatever I want. However, I listen to podcasts at 3x speed and I find it difficult to listen to anything that fast without and ear bud. Listening fast over a speaker just doesn’t work and I don’t know why.

message 5836: by Tonari no Emily (new)

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Honestly the cheap ones you can get on amazon are pretty solid. The charge lasts for a long time especially if you use one earbud at a time. You can at least start with those and maybe upgrade if you wanted.

I’d quit, too. I can’t concentrate without background most. Usually I’d listen to music at work. I couldn’t be productive in silence.

My Amazon cheap ear buds last days without charging. I can probably get a good 20 hours of listening time out of them. I love them and they cost me $13.

message 5838: by Marie (new)

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 738 comments I bought wireless earbuds and I am never going back. I mostly listen doing chores so having to always have pocket to carry phone was annoying. Idk last time I run out of charge. They are the cheap Xiaomi ones, cost like 20 euro.

Mine are on me 24/7 lol. I pop them in if I’m doing anything. I’m seriously obsessed. Probably doesn’t help my social awkwardness since I’m even less approachable with ear buds in all the time 😅

Feel free to give me some links to exact earbuds/options, and I'll go shopping in the next few weeks... I've been internding to get an IPhone SE 2022/2025 at some point (I hear the 2025 is the next cheap SE model, as opposed to the numerical model that costs 1k+ these days)... I wasn't happy with my Android phone I got a few years ago, and leave it at home most of the time... how I ended up on the ipod...
