Soo got us paranoid, in the Vagabond thread, when that was announced a few weeks ago... there's nothing to indicate Goodreads is going anywhere, but Amazon has definitely been trying to find ways to further push book sales to Amazon, with their layout changes...
If they get rid of Goodreads to push people to Amazon, that's when I'll finally transfer all of my books over to Storygraph or another site.
This is my favourite social media site, so I really hope they don't get rid of it :(

Grand Conspiracy has been moved to February 1st--I just need to request it on the main sheet. I think I only did through the end of December.
One for the Money shows up on the monthly spreadsheet--the other three aren't showing up weekly. Is that a spreadsheet magic need? Or do the same as with Iron Druid/Animorphs, and list all 4?

That's a book club thing... like with the In Death series, I only input the first book each month, since they're all being funneled to a single thread...
The Animorphs got worked around because I used a box set book link, and they're in monthly threads that way...

The original point was
A) the work,
B) the fact Yanique tried to avoid the need for the book club funnel tab in the spreadsheet, when i invented the work a year and a half ago before book clubs became frowned upon, and
C) I was worried about cluttering the monthly Buddy Read tracker with all these weekly book club reads, before we started scheduling 40-60 monthly BRs per month...
It might be less of a concern now, honestly... just more work... my compromise of 1 per month, was to make sure the Book Club was being mentioned each month, for it's duration... I think I have it on the spreadsheet once a month through July/August, when we hit book 28ish... there's only 30 books so far... after 57 In Death novels + 10 novellas, 30 seems small, somehow...

Definitely... I actually just realized I forgot to include Gunnie Rose on my sheet... so easy for things to fall through the cracks...

My rec would be to put a note about how Book Clubs work in FBR info post. I think we have one that talks about FBR and general navigation?

I've created a buddy-read shelf to help combat that. I realized I needed it at some point last year.
I add the intended book to the shelf, add the start date in the notes, and then add the link to BR Thread there, as well, when it's available. I also set the shelf to sortable so I can have all the books in order of start date.
Soo wrote: "I don't think Book Club BRs should be tracked by mods. The Book Clubs were made for spur of the moment/loosely schedule stuff. I like that we have the What's Happening in Book Clubs thread pinned. ..."
I built the workaround in late 2022, just before we put an end to most new book clubs / series binge threads, because another concern was people weren't updating thread titles and the Book Club info thread, and it left people feeling excluded, when they found out, months later, that a BR they wouldn't have minded joining had happened quietly in a book club thread...
It's also why alot of the Vagabond series-long buddy reads moved to their own threads, like Laundry Files and Sun Eater... things we all bought on sale and planned to read together... definitely returned to the spirit of the sput-of-the-moment thing with Dragon Heist and Dandelion and the first Beware of Chicken and Dungeon Crawler Carl and Unorthodox Farming...

I do all my management from the book page...
You can either edit review near the star buttons, or scroll down to the your review section of the book page and click the edit details button in the upper right corner...
I think GR starts a "review" the second you start putting updates in, and everything can be controlled through there?... just need to put in a finished reading date/etc...

I think the front page is mostly for people that do Currently Reading... I read too fast for that, and don't even keep up with myself anyway...

Gotta love the active participation in FBR! Just from reading thread titles, I decided to do the following:
- Reread #1-6 of Wars of Light & Shadow & read the rest. I stalled in 7 years ago when it was published. Re-read 1-6 several times. It's one of my fav series but beginning of 7 is rough. Like pull heartstrings and gnash teeth rough. 🫠 This series will be reading print. No audios.
- Reread #1-9 of the Fitz (Robin Hobbs) books, devour 10 and snag 11 as soon as it is published. I have the audiobook for 10 & plan to buy whatever audios for the series that comes out. Another reading spree in print.
- Nightrunner series reread by audiobooks. Another long time fav series.
- Push up Akata Witch series on TBR. My library has the books! Woo!
- After Wurtz & Hobb series, I may tackle Wheel of Time again. I do want to finish the series, but that must be in print because I can't dislike the audios immensely.
- I have 7 books in my Read Again shelf because that was the year of glitches and my ratings for those books were not recorded.
I'm sure there will be more added cause of FBR infectious enthusiasm. 🤗📚🤗

Is Hobb writing more in that universe? I thought they were done with the Fitz & the Fool trilogy...
Some of us made it through the Liveship books a year ago, but haven't picked it up again since.

Wurts has final coming out in a few months.

I haven't read the final trilogy yet... been trying to slowly make way through the reread first...
The Wurts & Hobb mixup makes sense! I think the big BR was initially planned to land with the finale, but Chibipoe and I are the only ones to make it past book 1... Laura just jumped in for book 2 this week, which I am very excited about, and the schedule was pushed back to 2 every 3 months instead of 1/month trying to give folks time to catch up... book 5 will be Feb 1st...
I need to get back to RotE as well... I read the first trilogy, and then lost momentum years ago with the Buddy Read... read the first Ship book alone, and haven't made time since...

Wheel of Time books have new covers and I don't like them. Bring back the old covers!

I absolutely loved Bee in the last trilogy, so I’ll. certainly check out any future works about her.

I could go for that pace, Shaitarn, if you want to make it an official BR... I probably won't jump in until the Tawny Man series though.
Regarding pacing--I definitely find the Fitz trilogies easier to consume than the Ships/Rain Wilds ones, but for that reason I try to make myself read them in order... else I'll just skip the other books altogether, and I do enjoy them too, they're just more work... Plus, there're fun easter-eggs in Tawny Man for Ships readers... not a lot, but enough to make it worthwhile to me...
Anyway, if folks want to make an official thing out of it, I'm down.
@Soo--are you dissing the Dan dos Santos covers? LOL I love his artwork...

I didn't even look up the artist. I noted the cover change for Wheel of Time on Audible. Other authors and their series have cover changes too on Audible.
There's lots of ways to do art for covers and make it work well. I like the old covers. Not necessarily the best art. It's a stylized style of its own, but I like them.
Zoomed in on the new Wheel of Time covers on Audible. I got disgruntled at the eskewed proportions of face and body drawings for the style drawn. Comes across as amateurish. In comparison to old covers, I prefer the original covers.
🫠🫠🫠
Some of my fav Fantasy cover artists are probably dead.
😭😭😭

I love the old covers too! They hold a certain nostalgic feeling for me from when I started the series back in high school. I'm glad I already had a complete set of them
Since everyone is talking about Realm of the Elderlings - I just started Fool's Quest if anyone stopped at the same point and wants to jump back in with me. :)

@Soo & Erin--re: Wheel of Time covers--I was thinking of the ebook covers (and I was wrong, Dan dos Santos only did one of them, but I rather like all of these)--you can see them on this blog: (https://www.benjaminrose.com/post/the...) I really love these covers.
I agree--the new "TV show" covers are rather bleh. I am not a fan of "live action" photo covers in general... I love seeing hand-drawn or painting art... some day I'm going to buy a book cover original painting... some day...

Ugh, hearing that those covers are based on the show and edited is more depressing. It's not hard to take out good screenshots and do mild edits to focus. 😮💨
Cold front came in, as weather announced a few days ago…
Not liking it…
Snapped driver door handle off car (might be able to replace myself for $20, have to open from inside using other entrance till then)
Car wouldn’t start (karma for not taking to battery center pre-weather for battery check)… had to get boss to come jumpstart me, and I can get a new battery when stores open later…
Also slipped/fell and sprained my big toe… 3 for 3, that one could have been worse…
Also need to buy solo chargeable jumpstart kit for future emergencies… I’ve seen them the past couple years and learned my lesson today… got to work 1hr late… gonna be colder tomorrow I think…

I bought one of those two years ago. They are definitely worth it. Super easy to use and fairly light weight so easy to carry with as needed.

Ooph you are not having a good day :(

- carnally interested in females
- like him in the carnal sense
🤔🤔🤔
Like is this a teen 2010-ish thing? Can we stretch to 2000s thing?
🤣🤣🤣
This version of slang/casual chat sounds hilarious and not like teenagers.

Yikes, I hope the rest of your week gives you 3x3 positives in exchange...
I survived the weekend... my big toe turned into a bruised sausage after awhile... been limping and trying to avoid agitating as it slowly starts to heal (I can already feel it's a bit better)... glad my weekend has started now, and I can let it truly rest for 48-60hrs...
Bit of a gas leak scare at work this morning at 9am, had everyone outside for 30 minutes, while Fire Department and Gas Company came out to check... -5F out... luckily there wasn't much wind, so it didn't feel too bad...
