I've been moved back to the new and "improved" book page, after months luxuriating in my return to the old better layout...

Me too, and it doesn't look like they listened to anything I had to say about the changes. Of course, I didn't really expect them too. ðŸ˜
They just took it away long enough for you to hopefully forget what you complained about...
It looks exactly the same to me... altho I didn't scroll down much...

I liked that you could click on the book cover with the old layout to enlarge it. Now it's just stuck somewhere in between.

Meanwhile, I treat it more like a checklist... I'm signed up for 14-15 of those... altho some count as multiple, and it's more like 30-40...
It's interesting how lopsided the month is... 90% of the BRs are scheduled by the 15th... 50% in the first 7 days...

I feel that emoji so much right now...

When I follow through on making requests, the Buddy Read Tracker is going to have BRs scheduled through October/November 2025 soon... I accidentally got people planning big for 2024 already, and a Discworld Buddy Read... just announced it in the Planning thread... it all came together pretty fast, yesterday, when I made a comment about my 2024 plans in the Vagabond thread...

I'll probably hop in for some of those Discworld reads, but what I think I've learned with that series is: less is more. I love Sir Terry's punderful narrative voice in small doses, but then need a break. Although we'll see. I enjoyed Monstrous Regiment which is a later installment, where the narrative tension held my attention more than just one crazy encounter after another. So yes. I'll look forward to reading some, but definitely not all with you! ^_^

Oh, great idea. He's one of my favorites. The group has started the first book...
I won't be joining until it gets to Red Country, but looking forward to it

I'm joining in. I haven't decided if I'm going to try for the whole thing or just pop in and out. I have a few I haven't read yet so will definitely join for those.

That's basically what I did - started with Book 3 and then read all the first in sub-series, then back to the beginning. Then I've been continuing along in sub-series progression and kinda ignoring the publishing dates.
Not confusing at all! :)

Most of my monthly plans just went out the window... My upstairs neighbor left the bathtub running unattended and forgot about it... I hear they are deaf maybe... Anyway, I've been home for hours and ceiling is still raining everywhere... Been taking photos and throwing a bunch of stuff away... Gotta do laundry because some is wet... Old PC survived... Unassembled new PC didn't really... Got everything secured in plastic tubs now, and waiting for call from hotel provider connected to renter's insurance company...

Good luck sorting it all out. <3
Talked to landlord and got keys to empty apartment I can use in same complex to store things and sleep... Might be able to live pretty normally, minus internet on PC, for the week...

No idea... Should get a call from agent/adjuster later today, and get the ball rolling... Most people don't seem to have renter's insurance ... I picked it up 8 years ago after rough experience in previous apartment...
Yesterday was a long 22hr day... Work then discovery of the incident, storing my stuff in rubber tubs, contacting insurance, long wait times, my first name is still misspelled, but was able to check into insurance-booked hotel suite, then back to apartment complex, 2-3hrs laundering everything wet and dry to be on the safe side, dropped off in storage apartment and back to hotel for the night ... 2am to 11pm... And my phone and iPod died around laundry time... Finally charged overnight at hotel... Don't generally go to hotels ... Last time might have been a rental vacation cabin 20ish years ago...
Today I need to check the stuff I wasn't able to move last night... Buy more rubber tubs probably... Fun times... So much for a 3 day weekend with lots of reading (will still do a fair bit while doing this work, probably)

At least temp Housing go-between sent me an updated policy agreement to handle hotel accomodations 1hr ago with my name spelled right... I sat on hold to try and fix for 45 minutes yesterday (15 minutes in someone picked up, but put me back on hold to push the name issue up to a supervisor)... But I think I hit some sort of time limit or they closed for the day, because it stopped letting me stay on hold and turned the optional voicemail message into a forced one... Which is what spurred me to just drive to the hotel and see if my name was close enough to allow checkin... The "best" part is this was after correcting the initial misspelling of Lain... Then they thought it was Eion... Then they understood, but skipped a letter and went with the more common Ian... Sometimes I wish I had a more commonly spelled name... Or my PC up and running to deal with online support)
(Even my short posts end up super long it seems)

Still waiting for insurance agent to reach out... In the meantime I'm removing cleaning and storing more and more of my stuff (and doing some spring cleaning)... And taking lots of photos... Including more evidence as they remove ceiling panels and saturated fiberglass insulation... Supervisor says it'll be at least a week, probably... They said the water was running for 3hrs before any calls were made to maintenance/landlord... And first call just said things are a little wet...

I'd love to join in with Discworld. I've listened to a couple of adaptations on BBC Radio and loved them!!

Wow! This all sucks, but at least you have renters insurance. I don't know anyone who does, but it sounds very smart.
Hope you get a breather soon. 🥰
It only cost me like 150-180/yr… I picked it up 7-8 years ago when I moved, because previous place slowly gained mold issues and I lost some stuff… the landlord/manager tried to talk me into moving to another owned apartment, but I swear they were worse… so many red flags… definitely paying off with this nice hotel to stay in for 5-10 days… complementary breakfast… social time from 5-7pm with a bar… it’s a whole quaint setup… I think the insurance uses it for the cheap weekly rates and rewards program… talked to my insurance agent and my issue is covered after 250 deductible, just need to wait for the instructions to submit inventory of damage, cost, and photos…
One more day, and my apartment will be all stores away and cleaned up… I might not have lost too much of the biggest items, just a bunch of medium items… it could have definitely been worse… gonna try and setup my PC in storage tomorrow and transfer more books to ipod… on the apartment front, they removed half the living room ceiling tiles and 10-20% pf the insulation… kept finding new concentrations of soggy fiberglass waiting to pour down on them… can’t imagine my stuff would have survived if still there…

Happened to my husband a good few years ago when he rented a flat, he was homeless for months and had to stay with his mam until the landlord sorted the place. Took bloody ages. He was lucky he had family to put him up but it wasn't ideal!
Yea… I don’t really have support like that… lucky everything is going generally well… planned ahead… got lucky on timing… power box shorted out 20 minutes after I got home and turned everything off and moved main PC outside…
