Thanks for the recommendation, it definitely seems more like my cup of tea than Throne of Glass. I added it to my pile.

While not YA or standalone a book that just seems to keep coming up lately over and over from people whose opinions I value is

The Fifth Season

and book two comes out Aug 16th.

The Obelisk Gate

I wouldn't mind getting a group read for this late this year or early next.

On the topic of knowing your reviewers. One particularly harsh reviewer I'm friends with who has slammed some books that I've thought mediocre to decent loves this book. When they love a book I take notice. I have three people like that. While it's not a shoe-in I'll love what they love I've never hated something they love and more often than not we are in lockstep.

BTW I consider myself a middle of the road reviewer in this way. Which most people are in a bell curve manner with only a few being at the other end of being fan boys/girls where a 4* from them signal a piece of.....

Actually Dan if I was to recommend one YA title for you it would be Dawn of Wonder

I think we've talked about it before but the author fits into that Rothfuss and Hobb category of being a great technical write and tells a great story to top it off. The best thing about the book is I actually think the future installments are going to be better. He's setup the world so well.

Solseit | 1516 comments I actually started Dawn of Wonder but I have it set aside - I want to finish some series before continuing - but the start is quite good.
I also recently bought the fifth season (also because the second book will be published soon as Scott mentioned) and I really want to get to that on in August - yes, I agree, my list of book TBR is never ending...

Daniel Millard | 30 comments Finally got off my butt and finished The White Rose this morning. Will be committing more time to reading in August, and looking forward to The Lies of Locke Lamora.

I also want to read The Fifth Season. I'm sure I've been seeing the same reviews as you have.

I finished Saint's Blood (Greatcoats #3) which was a bit of let down for me. I felt like some of the humour and fun from previous books was missing.

Currently nearly finished Vicious. I'm quite enjoying it.

Next up is A King's Ransom and The Lies of Locke Lamora

Thank you very much for the recommendation, it was actually already in my To-Read pile but I just bumped it up to the top of it somehow, in my mind at least!

This is a good conversion. Lots of nice recommendations, thanks guys!

Dan (danstri) | 93 comments I've finally started reading Ready Player One this week. It's been very interesting so far.

Really? So much pressure! Haha, just kidding.

Well, early thoughts? It's been a pretty big fist-bumping ride so far for me as a gamer. Most people who consider themselves gamers should really enjoy it!

Only read about 1/3rd of it so far though so thoughts might change.
