My family and I are headed on a whirlwind Tennesse adventure tomorrow!!!! Hopefully getting to camp at least one night!
YAAAAAY Summer is here!! I don't think we're planing to go anywhere special this year. Everytime my family plan something, it goes to hell lol.
In fact if I told you what I wanna do this summer, you will probably get bored just from reading it xD
We (My parents, brother's family, sister's family, my family) always go to the beach for a week and rent a house. We have 2 beaches we frequent (one in North Carolina and the other in South Carolina) and we alternate years as to which beach we go to...this year we are headed South Carolina at the end of July.
We like to go camping at least once a month in the summer...we also go to my uncle's house...he lives 20 miles away right on the Ohio River and we have a boat we take out and the kids get to tube/water ski/swim. It's fun.
And of course during all of these activities I have piles and piles of books :) Even on the boat which makes my brother and sister laugh. Of course on the boat I usually take my tattered paperbacks that I don't care if they get wet...but it's still fun times!

We usually go to eastern Tennessee to the Smoky Mountain area and/or Knoxville area...if you decide to hit up these places let me know - we were just there Memorial Day Weekend

That's the fun in a family trip! We get our family togetherness done for the year and usually avoid each other until Thanksgiving after spending a week together at the beach :)

LOL, I wish I could say the same for me xD
But Have a nice summer. yours sounds thrilling
So usually we go to the cape, or down to Florida, but...we have other plans. This year my husband and I are celebrating our twenty-fifth anniversary. So our kids are throwing us a big anniversary party. Plus my husband and I are going on a celebratory vacation...its just in September. We're going to Paris and than a Mediterranean Cruise. Since all those big things are happening we're doing day trips. This weekend we're going to the Berkshires and than the beach.

Off topic but since you are driving - download the WAZE app if you haven't all ready ... it's a really cool navigational app that alerts you to road hazards/police/traffic jams and it will reroute you if possible to avoid traffic.
IF you go in to Pigeon Forge - you need to eat at the Old Mill Inn - or The Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant ( it's actually in Sevierville) Those are my 2 favorite restaurants.
We usually go hiking at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but there are so many Tennessee State Parks that have wonderful waterfalls in and around Knoxville like Fall Creek Falls (Which is in between Nashville and Knoxville and is the largest falls this side of the Mississippi). In the National Park - we like to do Clingman's Dome Hike (It's the highest peak in the mountains, but only like 3/4 mile up and back and it's paved) and Laurel Falls (it's another paved one). We really like to do Cade's Cove, which is a motor (Car) trail that tours the old homesteads of GSMNP (lots of historic cabins and even a working mill) and you can see wildlife...my daughter loved it because we saw 2 bears from the safety of our vehicle (as well as wild boar, turkey, deer).
Message me if you have any specific questions!

Now fast forward to my married life with children... My husband was raised to believe that camping was any time you didn't sleep in your bed, "when you sleep at your cousins house, that's camping, when we stay at a hotel, that's camping" was what my father in law instilled in my husband. Needless to say we never went camping. The closet we've gotten to camping is staying at a friends cabin in the Adirondacks.
Karen what beaches do you go to in the Carolinas?

Barbara, I went to Tennessee last year, I have a group of 9 friends that live all over the world and once a year in the summer we get together for a week vacation. We stayed in Pigeon Forge last year. Loved it, it was gorgeous. Loved the Smokey Mountain's National Park.

Wow Paris, that is amazing! Now that is a vacation!! I've been seeing your Paris pins in Pinterest and I was wondering if you were planning a trip. 25 years congrats!! You must be so excited!!
Chris,
Life is always busy, so sometimes what you would call a boring summer would be fabulous to me!!! hahaha
Karen,
Your summer sounds like ours when our kids were young. We loved camping and going to lakes!!!
I actually just got back from my annual weeks vacation with my girl friends. This year we went to Seattle, because one of the friends lives in that area. We rented a house right on Washington Lake. It was beautiful. We did all the Seattle tourist things, but then we took a fairy to Victoria Island, BC Canada for just the day. It was gorgeous and I wish we had more than a day to spend there. Next year we are going to Cape Cod.
The rest of the summer we are just doing lake trips. My sister-in-law has a cabin by Lake Pine Mountain which is by Yosemite and we always go there with the whole family. Then we have cousins that we go to either Lake Tahoe or Lake Mont Pine every year. I think we are doing Lake Tahoe this year. So very relaxing vacations on the lake and I get time to read!!!

I will definitely let you know if we do Cape Cod next. :) It is really nice getting together and in different place. I can't tell you how much I look forward to it each year. We come from all over, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, Jacksonville Florida, Spain, Australia and Montreal Canada. We're very close friends and keep in touch throughout the year on the internet and can't wait every year to get together.

So I'm a little late to the party! ;)
We just got back from a camping trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon for the 4th. We watched fireworks at Manzanita beach and it was so much fun! Our favorite thing is the food, though. They have the best crepes in Cannon Beach. I think we kind of go there just for them...
Other than that, not much on the radar. Hopefully, it will be a nice and lazy summer.
Everyone sounds like they're going to have a lot of fun this year!

Everyone seems to have awesome plans. This summer will mostly be relaxing. Saving up to move in with the boyfriend and hopefully getting my Master's Degree. And I plan on reading a lot of course ;).

Well, if you ever make it to Cannon Beach, definitely search them out. They're on the same street as the big public restroom across from the visitor's center. ;)

Relaxing sounds fantastic. Especially if you have getting your Master's Degree coming up. Relax now, enjoy your reading but that is awesome that you will be getting your masters and are moving out with your boyfriend.
